Blog 23 - Happiness

DUE THURSDAY June 6, 2013
"Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

In other words, our personal level of satisfaction is entirely within our control. Otherwise, why would the same experience disappoint one person but delight another? Happiness is not an accident but a choice.

Happiness is an emotion every human being has experienced to a certain degree in his life. Is happiness something over which people have no control, or can people choose to be happy? In 2 well-constructed paragraphs, develop your point of view on this issue. Use specific examples and details while displaying what happiness implies to you.

In addition to your own post, please reply to someone else's in a few sentences.

  1. When it comes to happiness people make their own decisions. Everyone has different standards to what will make them happy. Some people will find specific events or phrases to make them happy while others find something different that will make them happy. When confronted with sadness people will try their hardest to become happy. However, people have a choice what to choose to make them happy. Anything can make a person happy, but one thing will not make every person happy.

An example that makes only a select number of people happy is money. There is a famous phrase that states “Money cannot buy happiness” and it is proven here. For example, if someone who is not rich and won the lottery for 300 thousand dollars they would be happy. They were lucky enough to win when millions of people enter. However, it may not be the same feeling for someone who is rich. To multi-millionaire winning 300 thousand dollars does not have the same felling or impact on them and they may still be sad as a result.

  2. As Abraham Lincoln once said, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." What Lincoln is saying is that people can only be as happy as they allow themselves to be, and are in complete control of if they are happy. I definitely agree with what Lincoln is saying here. In life, some people believe they do not deserve happiness, so they purposely surround themselves with things they know will not make them feel fulfilled. Meanwhile, if these people would just go a little out of their way and put good people and only think of good memories, they would be in control of how happy they are. Happiness is definitely in control of the person.
In some cases it is not a person’s decision if they are happy or not. For example, when someone close passes away, it is only normal to feel upset and to grieve. But eventually, if someone truly wanted to feel happy they would realize that there is nothing they can do, and they would be able to move on with their life. Some do not like to move on because they feel as if it is rude to forget the person, but it is not. They are simply trying to live their life to the fullest by doing so. As long as an extra step is taken, happiness is in control of people more often than not.

  3. Happiness is something every human being deserves in life. It's the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and shouldn’t have to be taken away from anybody. Although, the human body does not always have control over the emotions it feels. For example, depression is one of the long-term effects that can cause 5% or more of the human brain to shut down and cause a chemical imbalance between the chemicals Serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. These chemicals in the human brain give a person the ability to release endorphins and feel the uplifting emotion of happiness. When there's a chemical imbalance between the three, levels of MOA take over and cause the feeling of sadness to take over one's behavior. Depression is not always a chemical imbalance; it can also be cause by a tragic event that has an enduring effect on the everyday life of a person.

In specific cases, the ability to feel happiness is sometimes completely out of our control. The human brain cannot physically produce enough of the right chemicals to balance itself out. At other times, I do believe that a person has the choice of looking a certain situations at a different perspective. Always being optimistic about things can have an overall effect of how you deal with certain situations later on in life. If you’re always being a pessimist and looking at the downside of things, your mood will most likely always be degrading and unhappy. Life is how you make it. With the exception of depression, only you can choose whether you want to be happy. Happiness should be a given. Unfortunately, happiness is something fragile, and can be taken away within seconds.

  4. Happiness is not a choice. In short, happiness is a result of a sequence of events that may affect personal moral or ones views of themselves. Also, in a situation when one is put down or has un-kindness inflicted upon them, they can continue to smile and pretend that they don’t care, but inside they are hurting. On the other hand, someone can be insulting in another language and then you wouldn’t even be offended. So in a sense, they are only words and cannot actually affect your personal well-being. In contrast, situations or events can also make a person upset or not happy, some more than others.

Some events that can happen to make someone unhappy can be things such as a family member having past on. These things are impossible not to be upset over. At a funeral or a saddening event that is similar, somebody can easily pretend that they are not upset and not cry, but it’s what they feel on the inside that they cannot stop.

  5. Some people believe that happiness is not a choice, however, it is to a degree. There are certain factors that determine if an individual is able to be happy or not. To begin with, the person’s attitude can have a big impact on their happiness/well being. “You can catch more bees with honey than vinegar” is an expression that applies to this situation. Depending on how a person acts towards others can make a big difference. If someone is nice and at least makes the effort to be happy, they will have a better chance of succeeding. It’s next to impossible to be happy if there is no effort made, and the person is not willing to fix their attitude.

On the other hand, sometimes happiness cannot be controlled. A person can either be very happy without control, or very sad. Sometimes, very good or bad things happen that will make an individual so happy/sad that they can’t help it. This mostly has to do with other individuals. For example, if someone around a person is funny, they will most likely laugh. Laughing occurs when a person is so happy that their body just cannot contain all the joy. However, if everyone around the person is sad, it may make it harder for them to be happy. Other people can have a big impact on one person’s happiness, due to their actions. Mental disorders can also make an impact. For instance, a person with depression is almost never happy. They’re stuck in a position where they feel sad, and helpless all the time. In this situation, being happy is not a choice.

Overall, under regular circumstances, i feel that it is mostly a person's choice to be happy or not. At times it may be difficult, but a little adjust in attitude can always help a person feel better about themselves and their environment. Seeing things from a positive perspective can also make it easier to be happy. It is a person’s decision to see the glass as half full, rather than half empty.

  6. Historian Abe Lincoln once said, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” By this he means that our personal level of satisfaction is within our control. He says that happiness is not an accident, but rather it is a choice. Different people have different ideas and values that uncontrollably make them happy. However, in most cases it is a person’s choice whether something makes them happy or not. Depending on the specific individual, one thing might make one person happy, while the same thing makes another person unhappy. The feeling of happiness is all a person’s choice, it’s not an accident.
The feeling of happiness all depends on the person and their values or “criteria” of things that make them happy. For instance when bad things, like death of a close person, occurs different people take it in different ways. The natural reaction to death is to be upset. However, some people decide to make a bad situation good. Some people choose to be happy and get over the bad situation, while others decide happiness is not an option, and they stay very upset and unhappy. Therefore, the feeling of happiness all depends on whether or not the person wants to be happy or not.

  7. Happiness is a very weird topic, in all honestly. Many say that people choose to be happy, and this is very true as well. It is very easy for some people to not get affected by many of life problems. They just brush it off their shoulders and move on with a smile on their face. Having this quality shows that they are capable of not letting things bother them, allowing themselves to easily move and have their happiness still in tack.

On this other hand, not everyone can react this way. Some individuals can get really shook up about certain events that they carry with themselves for a long period of time. Some can help but reminisce on all the negative occurrences and just feel self-pity. This can later on turn into something bigger like depression. It also is very difficult for a person to think about all the happy things if they keep on getting disappointments and pain thrown their way. These “scars” can leave an ever lasting impression on the individual, allowing him to believe he has nothing to live for.

A person’s happiness all depends on their personality and how they react and deal with situations thrown their way. Some handle it better than others, allowing them to have a positive outlook on life. For those who remain dreary and negative, it could be very hard for them to get out of that dark pit, but with the help of friends, or anything that can lift that persons spirits; they can be removed from that dark pit, even if it’s just for a short amount of time.

  8. Former United States President, Abraham Lincoln, once said, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." By this quote, Lincoln meant that people have the ability to determine whether they are happy or not. In his opinion, happiness is not a feeling that people cannot control. He feels as though it is very easily controlled by one person’s own mind. I agree with Lincoln in the sense that to some extent, all people have control over what makes them truly happy or not

At some point in all of our lives, we all have experienced happiness in one way, shape, or form. In my opinion, happiness is something that people have some type of control over. People can become happy for many different reasons. Not every way one person experiences happiness is the same as how another person experiences it. For example, one person may be a cat person and another person could be a dog person. Buying a new cat would make the first person pleased, but if the other bought one, they would not feel the same way. They can easily control whether they experience happiness or not based on their own personal opinion. In addition, one thing in particular can change someone’s mood from being depressed to being ecstatic in an instant, whereas it could make another person feel even worse. For instance, two baseball fans were upset for some unknown reason. One of them is a New York Yankees fan while the other is a Boston Red Sox fan. Then, later on in that day, the Yankees defeat the Red Sox. This would make the Yankees fan extremely happy, but on the other hand, the Red Sox fan would feel even worse. The Red Sox fan chose not to be happy because he is not a supporter of the Yankees, but the Yankee fan chose to be happy for his favorite team. To some extent happiness is controlled by people because we can actually choose what we want to be happy about, and what does not make experience true happiness.

  9. Happiness comes at random moments and anything can make you happy. There are some people who have the attitude that they're never happy and they dont have a sense of humor. There are somethings that make certain people laugh and things that dont. However your day is going will effect your mood and things that you found funny or made you happy before wont make you happy this time.

If you were watching a comedy movie or a comedy show you would be really happy and someone walked in the room and started arguing with you for something you did it would make you really upset and not even enjoy what you were watching. That happens to me all the time when I'm just sitting in my room relaxing playing my video games and then my mom walks in and starts yelling at me about the trash or to clean my room then I'm really upset and then I'm not at my high skill level like I want to be.

  10. Happiness in someone’s life can come and go within a blink of an eye. People choose to be happy by choice meaning that they have total control over their happiness. People can control their happiness because when it comes to certain situations they can either be sad about it or happy. Some people do not let things bother them as much as it should and they brush it off and think of positive things. This is a form of happiness because positive thinking brings you on the road to happiness.
From past experiences I understand that happiness can be a choice. I am as happy as I let myself be. Many people have their own way of becoming happy or even become happy over different things. I always think that if I don’t convince myself to be happy, I will never be. Often, I make the choice to be happy because after all, who does not want to be happy? Over all I believe it is a choice to be happy.

  11. Former President Abraham Lincoln once said, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." In simpler terms, people can choose to be happy. He states that people can control whether or not they are happy in life. I agree completely with his statement due to personal experiences. If a person is unhappy, they have a choice to leave and engage in something they enjoy. If they are being bullied, they can choose to get help, which would eventually return happiness into their life. Therefore, people can choose whether or not they are happy.

In life, there are many things which can bring joy while others can bring despair. However, a person does have control over which will affect them. For instance, if a person is being put down for their grades or GPA, they can choose how they deal with it. One way they can overcome the negative comments is to use it as motivation. They could use it to excel and prove the person who said they couldn’t do it wrong. From personal experience, I know I’m happiest when I’m around my family and best friends. I purposely stay with them because they bring me happiness and do not bring trouble into my life. If I were to stay with someone who made me unhappy, I would be a fool. Therefore, people have control over whether or not they are happy.

  12. The sixteenth president Abraham Lincoln states “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Lincoln is stating that people have control on whether or not they choose to be happy. It is up to an individual if they want to be happy. They have the ability to go out and meet new friends and try new things. Usually going outside and doing things outside their comfort zone like skydiving or parasailing can make someone on cloud nine. When someone is upset or depressed it is possible to return happiness into their life. However, this is only achieved if the person wants happiness. Happiness just won’t happen by lying around and doing nothing. Therefore, people can choose their happiness it will not just happen by being lazy.

Happiness can come from anything, from freshly cut grass to the new movie of Hunger Games coming out. I have noticed that I am the most happy when I’m with my best friends or sisters having the time of my life. When I am with my friends or sisters we are weird, outgoing, friendly, and funny. I always end up meeting new people and having a blast. I also find myself very happy when I travel. I love learning or exploring new locations. I have been to countless states and countries and I have always been happy where ever I go. I have achieved these happy times by making plans with my friends to go out and saving up my money to travel to a new place. I have not been spending my time lying on a couch waiting for happy times.

  13. John Barrymore once said that “happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open.” I believe that this quote speaks truly about happiness. True happiness comes from the little things in life that you wouldn’t expect and from the people you would have never assumed it would. Happiness is something that surprises you, and puts you in a good mood not matter what. From a simple smile drawn in the sand or seeing your dog when you come home. Happiness is not something that can be constantly controlled, but sometimes it will. Depending on your outlook on life it can change your view on what happiness really is.

People do try and bring happiness upon themselves, like planning to go to Disney World, going on a date with their boy/girlfriend, or ice skating in the park. This is happiness, but happiness should come from pure joy and things you would never expect. Happiness doesn’t always have to put a smile on your face sometimes it makes you cry, or feel good about yourself. Before a bride walks down the aisle she promises herself she won’t cry, but inevitably she does and there are tears of joy. You one day might not be having such a great day at work, but that one person who gets it will say “hello” or “have a nice day” and that will pick your spirit up. Happiness comes often in small boxes, but can mean so much to someone. “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.”-Charles Spurgeon.

  14. Happiness is something everyone obviously wants to feel; however, of course everyone has their times of ups and downs. The world is filled with different types of emotions and in all reality, not everyone is going to happy all the time. I believe with varying situations, people have to choice to be happy or not. The only reason I say in some situations is referring to the more medical side of mood changes. The chemical imbalances in some people’s minds cause them to be unhappy no matter how hard they try on their own. Mental states such as depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses can cause these times of “incurable” sadness’s. Moreover, I still believe most people have the ability to make themselves happy.
Sometimes things happen that of course make a person upset, angry, or even vengeful towards another person, but there’s a point where in order to prevent feeling this way you, yourself, has to provide ways to feel differently. In other words, you force yourself to look past it or not put so much thought into it in order to make yourself happy. You make the decision out of your own will to make yourself happy. All in all, when hard times hit, you have two options; you can drown yourself in the sadness, anger, and stress that comes along with it, or you make a decision to see the happy things in your life and feed energy off of that. I believe that is how to make yourself happy; not every moment in life is going to provide pure happiness, however, this is when you create your own happiness.

  15. Many things in life no one can control and the choices that are made always have consequences. Certain things though are much in the hands of someone; they can personally determine their mindset and their personal outlook on many things. Excluding natural events and “fate” as some would call it, personal decisions and collective thoughts rule the involved emotions and permanent choices. Emotions in a human’s life can be controlled for the most part and happiness is often easier to build from as sadness is harder to recover from. Happiness is an emotion that everyone should feel at least once in their lives and often it is their choice.

When I hear the word happiness a few things come to my head, but only a few stand out. I always imagine a smiling face, or one who is content with their being and environment. Then I begin to picture other people, family and friends, even strangers surrounding the one face. To complete the picture the people begin to talk, laugh and are very involved and considerate of one another. Happiness as imagined like this is absolutely free and it is the most pure form. It can be achieved any day and even the days that are not the best, solid happiness conformists will still show glimpses of their inspiring personality. Those who hold this definition of happiness true have already stepped into reaching genuine happiness. Something to prove this true, are the people who do not have anything but happiness or laughter, conversation, friends and family. An old man adding onto the homeless count of New York City one day had created instruments out of scraps he found all over. He had nothing but an old plaid shirt, patched jeans and two leather soles that should not be considered shoes. With sticks and pipes he played the dorms to synchronized rhythms and he enjoyed every second of it. This man did not have a home or food at the time, only the bare minimum to get by, but every time someone would pass he would smile and play harder. He would smile and compliment them, even though he had every right to be mad at the world and to live in pessimistic ways. However, he chose to live off of a greater energy, a positive one that no one else could take away from him like they did his home. This man chose to have happiness even as he had nothing else, and he is the true definition of it.

  16. Happiness can well be summed up as the action of being happy. Happiness can please anyone, depending on the level their mind takes it. As the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln once said, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be”. This means that anyone has the ability to be happy, but one’s own mind decides if it wants to be happy.

The average American has everything all laid out: 3 meals a day, a bed, a home, clothes, proper education, yet many people still are not satisfied, let alone “happy”. If the average lower class African had even one of these characteristics, they’d feel as if they were the happiest person in the world. As one man once said, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. The things in life handed to the average American is nothing compared to what they can have, symbolized by the word “trash”. This would be the other man’s “treasure”- food, school, clothes, etc. to people that don’t already have them. An average American wants more clothes, more food, and nicer things than they already have. The things that we own is things that people in lower class-Africa dream of owning. People can choose to be happy over the same object, some just take them for granted. One’s own mind chooses to be happy, as the quote, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” insists, leading back to President Lincoln’s quote, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be”, meaning that anyone can

  17. Happiness means many different things to many different people. One cannot control their happiness without a suitable mindset. With choice over their own perspective, people are able to create or deplete happiness in their life. I believe anything can be controlled with proper use of the mind. When one can control the attention in their mind, with that they are able to interpret things in life differently and can overall determine the emotional outcome, whether it be happiness or any other feeling.

One may say that there is no way to control your happiness, and that it is emotional denial. But, there are step to take in order to control a feeling of happiness. The overall feeling of happiness comes from what happens to one in their life and how they mentally handle certain situations. Happiness can be pushed away if the mental intake is wrong. Happiness can be gained if the perspective of a situation is altered to fit in a way desirable for happiness. The mindset of someone is truly what can control the feeling of happiness.

  18. I think that happiness is a choice. Some people, in certain situations can feel happy or sad. The same situation can cause people to be happy or sad. It can depend on what the person enjoys or not. It is a similar concept. If someone likes rollercoasters, they will be happy when they go on a rollercoaster. If someone does not like rollercoasters and goes on one, they probably won’t be happy. These things can depend on whether a person enjoys the activity or not. People do have control over their emotion. If they want to be happy, they probably can be happy if they really tried, even if they were recently sad or upset. As long as they do something that they enjoy, they can be happy.

Some people, when they are sad, go shopping, or go to a movie, or go to an amusement park, or eat their favorite food. Everyone enjoys different things, and they’re things that they will resort to when they are upset. They can be happy by watching a funny video, or other things. Happiness is something that can sort of be manufactured. People can make themselves be happy, unless they are in the middle of a rough time.

  19. As Abraham Lincoln once president of the united states said, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." What he was trying to tell his people was that they can be happy in many ways by just making up their minds with good opinions and good things. They can make happiness by just thinking about it, because it can be control by what they think and believe . People do have control over their emotions, they can choose to be whether to be happy or not. It is all in their minds to choose whether or not to be have what they want in life

Happiness is a big part of life which helps people get throughout a lot and fight for what they want. It is what makes people who they are. Happiness is what you feel and what you think inside. I believe happiness is a big part of person’s opinion on whether , they want to be happy or sad and its a person’s decision to know that and its all in their heads.

  20. Happiness is an emotion that everyone has experienced one point in their lives. Usually it we feel this emotion many times, this emotion drives us to do certain things, it motivates us to continue being happy. Happiness in some cases is the key to a good life. Being happy shows that no matter what the situation is you can always get something positive out of it and continue being happy. Although, some feel as though happiness can be chosen, people choose to be happy, but really deep inside they aren’t truly happy. Yes, they can seem happy on the outside because they chose to be that why but really we have no control over true happiness.
True happiness is an emotion we feel only at certain times in our lives, it usually occurs when certain important events in our lives. Choosing to be happy when you really aren’t can put out a sense of false happiness to others. Showing true happiness is a virtue we must cherish in live because it is one of the few emotions we can’t control, because of its true power.

I agree with what john says, “True happiness is an emotion we feel only at certain times in our lives, it usually occurs when certain important events in our lives.” Because if you think about it in most cases true happiness happens when there are important event. For example, let’s say an athlete always wanted to be a professional player for his/her sports choose and they accomplish that goal they are going to achieve true happiness. A person can still have true happiness by doing a job that they want like a person I know that loves to read and she gets paid, to teach kids how to write and read.

  21. Happiness is an emotion that in the essence can be controlled through one’s own will, Many different factors play a role in the happiness of a person. Things such as if they are comfortable, if they like the people they are with or simply what had happened throughout that day which makes the person feel the way they do. Happiness is a mixture or emotions that make a person feel great, depending on whom they are with or what they are doing as fast as happiness can appear, that’s how quickly it can be gone.
True happiness for me is when I’m at peace not stressing about school or college or when something is due, when that is in my life I completely stress myself out. When this happens I still manage to try and get a little happiness into my life by taking a break going out hanging out with friends, making plans with girls to go get something to eat, on a date or just hanging out is when I am truly happy.

  22. Bryan's Blog:

As Abraham Lincoln ones mentioned, "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." This means that you can only be so happy if you let your mind block things that affect you or make you woeful or bring back doleful memories from the past. Just try to imagine if someone has had a bad past with memories that haunt them every day making them unhappy by thinking of it. They may not be as happy as they want to be, because their past. For example, people that go to war or people from the Holocaust that are survivors now still have those gruesome images in their minds that bring them back to the time. Some people even have nightmare for years or decade; or get flash backs that are so real that they can feel and see exactly how thing were during their experiences. You can try to be as happy as you want by trying to face your fears or try and forget them, even though it might not be the best advice but sometimes you just have to face your fears in order to get over them.

There isn’t anyone in the world that can control or choose to be happy. The reason why is, because you can’t choose when a catastrophe, misshapen, or death will occur in your life. In addition, death is something people are faced with throughout their whole life. It might be a family member, friends, or even family friend that might have meant a lot to you it might affect your happiness. You can’t control death, because sometimes people die of old age; heart attacks, accidents and other things that may bring your happiness down. Also, prevent you from reaching your goal of being as happy as you can because it a cruel world and no one is able to control their happiness but only try to be happy.

  23. To me being happy is something you can control, by being positive and keeping a good vibe. When people aren't happy they tend to make everyone around not . Being happy is not only a reward to yourself but for everybody else. A couple ways to be happy can be, trying hanging out with different people for a change, try something new, like going out to a new place to eat or try a new sport. Get your mind of the anything that can bring you down. Always look the bright side, you will always be faced with challenge in life and they most of the time, its hard to see a good outcome. But as long as you confront it positively, you should alright.
Happiness is a choice due to the fact that everyone can control it, but no one wants to . Its a feeling of releasement and joy. When you feel like you finally have nothing to worry about. For example when im playing soccer its my time of happiness, because it takes my mind of lifes worrys for a bit. Therefore I think happyness can be controled, but it shouldn't be

  24. Happiness can control you or can be a choice in life. Happiness is always the best way to let everything off your mind and just think of happy thoughts. It can control you at time but it sometimes can be a choice in life. Some people choose to be sad or mad in life for events that happened in their life. For example, if they lost a love one or if they didn’t get a job. This happens to many people including me.

One day my father told me that happiness is a choice in life, people either chooses to be a happy or not. I was sad and crying because my great-grandfather died. I always told myself that nothing would be the same. I really loved my great-grandfather and didn’t want him to leave. But then my father came to me and told me everything will be alright and that my great-grandfather is in a happier place now. He said that I had to be happy and enjoy my life now; I couldn’t live depress all of my life. I had to except my father’s point and agree, because it was true my great-grandfather is in a happier place now and I know that god will take care of him.

  25. Happiness plays a big factor in someone’s life. You should want to look at things, for the most part, with a positive outlook. This world is made up of all different kinds of people. Some are born to always have negative thoughts while others have more of a optimistic personality. Happiness to me is such a warm feeling. It is an emotion that fills you with intense joy and usually brings a smile to your face. Each individual is different in their own way so because of this, with different people, comes different things that bring happiness to them.
In my opinion, for the most part you have the ability to bring happiness or not upon yourself. Even if a person was given the chance to become happy they can turn it away. For example, people who suffer from depression are usually always in a funk and lean more towards negative thinking. If happiness was something we had no control over then the times happiness appeared in a depressed person’s life, would change their view on life. This usually does not work like that, hence why we people who suffer from depression have medication prescribed to them in order for them to be more content. Overall, this is why I believe happiness is not something we have no control over. Sometimes it may just not work or some push it away. In essence it is your overall decision to at least and attempt to be happy. Living life is much more healthier this way.

  26. Happiness is a large factor when it comes to the lives of every human being. When it comes to the thought and concept of happiness, I feel as if it can both be a choice or a natural emotion. For instance, someone can choose to be happy by being carefree without letting anything holding them back. Doing this would be an example of having happiness as a desired emotion. Therefore, it would not be something that is felt naturally.

On the other hand, happiness could also be a natural emotion felt. It could come to people unexpectedly and make their day brighter. To experience happiness could come to a person because of fate. Everything happens for a reason, so happiness would be brought to the people that deserve it at the right time in their life. Because of this concept on this specific emotion, it would then not be something chosen to be felt. Whether or not it is natural, depends on the person experiencing it. Because of this, happiness is not just natural or just a choice, but I can be both for different types of people.

  27. I believe that people can choose whether or not they can be happy. Happiness is influenced by the way people see themselves, the world, and how we or others act. This is the difference between happy people and unhappy people. To reach happiness is to know first what it is. You can choose to control how and when you achieve happiness or you can wait and never gain it. We can choose to be happy by accepting our daily life as it comes.

Depends on you, if you are stuck in a really bad situation or messed up, you can always try to look for happiness in the moment. Enjoy them and don't take advantage of it. We just have to learn how to deal with it by adding a little bit of hope and faith that better days will come. You might choose to control your attitude, the way you choose to interpret situations, and the way you think about yourself. Happiness is definitely able to be controlled by you.

  28. I think people can choose to be happy or sad. Happiness is something over which people have no control over. People could choose to be happy because of something they did that made him feel proud about himself. When people are happy the people around them are happy. This emotion makes us stay alive and have fun the best of our ability.
The only thing that can make you feel happy is if your mind is set to be happy. There are days where you’re going to be sad. People experience both side of being happy and sad. Everyone in the entire world goes through a bad day and a good day. People that are happy around you give you positive energy that makes you to be happy. But if people are sad then most people are going to feel sad. But you have total control of being happy or sad.

  29. When it comes to happiness you cant really control it. It’s an emotion and you can’t control emotions. For Example, if your girlfriend of four year broke up with you should you be happy? Hell no I’m going to be sad and mad. Put it to you this way when you’re happy you’re happy when you’re not your not. Very few people can control emotions. There is only one person I know that can control his emotions and that’s my Jaja (Grandpa in Polish) because he was a marine and he hide his emotion very well.

Another example, that you can’t control your emotions is people like me who suffer from desperation. Desperation makes you feel sad for no reason and out of nowhere. Do you think people with this had a choice to be happy wouldn’t they be. It is for these reason that most people can’t be happy or control there emotions.
