Bill Gates stated, “I think it’s fair to say that
personal computers have become the most empowering tool we’ve ever created.
They’re tools of communication, they’re tools of creativity, and they can be
shaped by their user.” Why might one argue that a machine can be life-changing?
Using examples from literature, history, science, or observation, write a 2
paragraph response about how a “machine”/”technology” can change the way of
life. Make sure to be specific and detailed in your reasons and explanations.

The machine, an amazing creation that was made by man, and can truly relate to the old saying that the creation can sometimes be more powerful than the creator. To start, founding fathers such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are and were very powerful intellectually, making their creation even more powerful than them creating a deadly force. From computer controller missiles to cyber bullying, there are plenty of ways that computer usage has revolutionized out world. In many cases, there are people hiding behind their screen pretending to be someone else, in order to stalk someone. Eventually this can lead to a murder or kidnapping all from a computer and a couple of clicks. Another way that computers can be dangerous is the revolutionary Facebook program. Me being a former user, I know how the site works, it seems simple but when it comes to human conflict it couldn’t be deadlier.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, people post things on Facebook when they are either bored, or feel like informing their friends on what they are doing. It seems harmless, until a conflict arises with a friend or another person. One cannot simply stop themselves from saying things that they may regret for the rest of their life. Or, somebody who conceals their identity can hack a disliked person’s account, and post offensive words under their name. Furthermore, anything can be said on Facebook, Twitter etc. even if it’s a mistake. There is always a chance that you will press the wrong key, and make you seem different. Furthermore, people can have a completely different personality over the web that the one they have in real life. I have known people who are great friends in real life, but once I try to communicate with them via online, they could seem like I have never even met them before. My reasons for why the machine has changed this world so drastically may be only a few, but you can notice how serious some them can be. It is an unbelievable revolution and has changed our world forever.

ReplyDeleteBig companies such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook, or Twitter are websites created to share thing with others and to find answers to your questions. for instants, Google is a search net. whatever you want to know you type your question on Google and it gives you websites that have answers to what your looking to figure out. twitter and Facebook are like a public wet for the people to communicate with friends and family. On twitter you can update your status on what you doing and you can also, find out what everyone is talking about. Facebook is like a hangout place to chat and stay updated on what your doing in a way.

DeleteThere are lots of inventions that changed the world starting back from the beginning of time. The most important piece of all the technology that has ever been made and that's the discovery of electricity, without it nothing would be possible. Its crazy how fast our species adapts to everything around us. I cant imagine what life would be like without any source of power because when the hurricane hit us and we had no power for two weeks it felt like the world was ending.

In today's world its a way for people to handle money, watch movies, be social, listen to music, share photos and even answers for homework. Every school in America is required to have computers now because that's how everyone learns now. To get certain jobs you must be somewhat computer savvy. computers and cell phones also made socializing different like people used to go out and meet people now all they have to do is just video chat or text. Technology is also making Americans lazy because we rely on it to jobs for us so we don't have to do it.

DeleteTechnology is becoming more advanced every year. It’s hard to believe that we first started at desktops and now we can hold a computer in the palm of our hands. They have evolved completely giving man the advantage of getting things lightning quick and making life simple. Some may argue that technology is ruining our generation. The computer has brought many problems, even increased problems, over the years. One example of this is social networking. The bullying rates have gone up since computers started to get popular. However, everything can have a negative side. When we look over the negatives that computers have done, in a whole, computers have really helped man over time.

This helps individuals like us to get what we need faster and more efficiently. Computers have also made it much simpler to do everyday things like online shopping, paying the bills, buying music and much more. Computers have also made it easier for individuals to save information and bring it back up again for future reference. Even though there are many other reasons as to why technology is a plus, this is a perfect example showing how computers, and technology in general, have really been beneficial for us today.

DeleteAlmost everyone’s lives have been altered by machinery, especially computers. Ultimately, the world had been placed at our fingertips and everything is much more convenient. For instance, communication has transformed from letters and messengers to e-mails and online chat rooms. These chat rooms and online mail offers many options from the color of the font one writes in to where the e-mail is being sent. Everyone and anyone has the opportunity to write to friends or even strangers across the world. Also in terms of communication, urgent notifications or reminders can be easily distributed. If the police need to notify everyone living in a certain borough that they must evacuate, it can efficiently be done through cell phones, home phones and computers. With machines, many people have the ability to communicate with others.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention computers have become the new encyclopedia, but they include even more than an encyclopedia could. These machines offer online teaching lessons, videos, pictures, games and answers to the most outrageous question one might ever ask. The internet is the world’s largest database. People any where can access information within seconds. Answers can be acquired much faster and often they will be elaborate. To be able to have this resource is extremely helpful is entirely beneficial. Machines have given us fast, correct and useful information that has expanded our horizons.

DeleteAs new jobs are becoming parts of people’s lives, easier and faster ways of completing them are becoming more and more in need. One specific machine that has gone above and beyond in assisting people in their everyday jobs is the computer. Computer technology has come a very far way and continues to move in a very positive direction that is improving several different aspects of our lives. From finding cures to diseases, to finding out the exact position of supports to hold up an entire bridge, the computer allows people to figure out and execute these jobs in and faster easier system. These computers are allowing people to go further beyond the expectations people have when completing jobs that are essential to the everyday lifestyle of people around the world. Without this machine, the world would most likely not be nearly as advanced as it is today.

ReplyDeleteOne field of life-changing technology is computers. Computers have been proven to have changed lives in many different ways. One negative effects on one’s life from computers is from bullying. For instance, a Rutgers student by the name of Tyler Clementi actually committed suicide due to a video posted from a computer. This event not only changed Tyler’s life, but also the lives of his friends and family. However, computers can also have positive life effects, too. Such as, they give an enourmous amount of information and data that can help students and workers to learn and be more successful. Another field of technology are machines used in hospitals. These machines can have both positive and negative effects on life, just like computers. An example of one of these machines is an I.V pump. The I.V pump is a bag of medication that feeds the body with the fluid medicine through a tube and needle. Theses machines can have a positive effect on life by giving the correct amount of medicine needed to stay alive. However, they can have a negative effect on life by giving too much, or too little medicine, and end up killing the patient.
I like your point that they are upgraded many times. The negative effects are also very eminent in some cases, such as Tyler Clementi. So sad that technology can be so helpful and also so hurtful. Good job Nicole!

DeleteTechnology goes beyond the day to day using the computer. Its is a way of life in society and without knowing it we use it constantly. Coffee pots, television,cell phones, microwaves, DVR, blu-ray, lights, and flushable toilets are just a few of the many things that make modern day possible. Technology is life-changing because without it, it would be a lot like the medieval times. Without phones it would take more time to get in contact with family and friends. Important events like the birth of a relative would get to someone very late. Traveling would also take very long time since there wouldn’t be any cars, trains, taxis, and buses without technology.

These PC’s need to be transported often and not having a wire connected to it helps. Wi-fi has made numerous things possible in almost anyplace a computer is at. If someone needs to look up information or to edit a report or work paper it is possible all thanks to wi-fi connection. Facebook is also life-changing in many ways.Facebook helps people connect with people that they normally can not find without it. This also helps inform people about what is going on outside their realm. Without technology the world would be lost like they used to be.
Machines most definitely can change people’s lives. People who are ill can be cured so much easier now. Back in the early days of our country, in the 1700s and 1800s, people might die from the common cold progression. Now, we just have computers that can create mass produced medicines, and people are cured in less than a day. It is amazing how much technology has changed the world. The diseases back in the early centuries must have been so terrible when diseases struck. Take the black plague, for example. It killed one out of three people in all of Europe. A third of its population wiped out. All of this happened because of a simple disease that could have been cured easily nowadays.

It took Ferdinand Magellan’s crew took years to do it, and technology has changed everything. There are also negative aspects of technology. Take the gun, for example. People have used them for bad purposes every day. There are wars being fought with weapons, they are killing so many people, and thousands die every day from these destructive tools. There are also freak accidents that occur in factories and facilities. Machines have taken over the world in good and bad ways.

DeleteWhen the computer was made it was obvious that this was a step to the next generation of technology. The computer can be a life changing instrument and it has proven so over the time that it has been around. For example, computers have helped countries greatly with warfare and how a war is fought. With computer technology countries are able to see things that a regular soldier may not and this makes the soldiers safer because computers are expendable. Also with computers countries now use soldiers less and computer operating drones more. This way more damage is done and more of the countries men are safe.

An example of a bad way is how some people’s lives have been ruined by the social media websites. These social media websites were developed after the computer was made and if there was no computer they would not be around. People will sometimes tweet or post things that are inappropriate and just from that their lives are ruined. Form that they can be cyber bullied by someone who viewed it or a company may not hire them because of it. There are still good ways in how a computer has changed someone’s life. Computers are full of any type of information that can be viewed by anyone. People are now able to learn things that they have never thought of before because of the computer and because of that people know more than they did before. They can learn things such as: who is the prime minister of England, how to solve a math problem, articles regarding sports, fashion, video games, or politics. DeleteThe computer marked a new time in history for all of us. People got rid of their huge typewriters, and substituted it in for the high-tech computers. Instead of having to find a dictionary around the house, or go to the library to get a book, people can easily go on the internet and look up whatever it is that they need. Carrying around a boom box wherever you go would seem crazy in our world today, since an IPod will hold thousands of your favorite songs. The computer is changing the way people act, talk, dress, look, and many other things, too. Cyber bullying has grown into a bigger and bigger problem all around the world. People have committed suicide or self-harm due to cyber bullying. Sometimes, people click on things that they are not supposed to, which can lead to many problems; some that can traumatize people forever. Lastly, machines don't always work correctly. Things catch on fire, radiation from certain machines cause cancer, and things don't always work. Although technology/machines are helpful and positive for many, there are negative things that may change a person's way of life.

DeleteModern-day society has been revolving around machines and robots, lately. Machines are a (somewhat) inexpensive way to communicate, provide entertainment, educate, and have many more functions. In history, a mere 50 years ago, the term, “online,” didn’t exist until the late 80’s and 90’s. Typewriters were a break from hand writing. There was no communication with the exception of phone lines other than physically meeting in public.
ReplyDeleteOne might argue that a machine could be life-changing because of bullying, anti-social behavior, and education. First of all, bullying has played a huge part in home computers. Just last year, a man came in to present a presentation entitled, “Ryan’s Story”. In early 2000 when AIM had just come out, he went on and thought a girl he was talking to actually liked him, when she didn’t. All the bullying lead to his suicide. Many other incidents have happened with bullying and suicide, as it is a HUGE life changing experience. Another reason is people becoming anti-social. Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many other websites are somewhat social, yet not entirely. Most of people’s friends exist in other countries, so we rely on internet to communicate with them. When it comes to school, students are anti-social, yet chat on the world wide web all night. People are losing social skills and gaining joy from pressing buttons in a correct order on a machine. Lastly, education skills are improving due to machines called computers. A computer has so much research on it to do a project than ever before. Historic, scientific, literary, mathematic, and every subject a single human could dream of is located at the touch of a fingertip. One does not need to waltz to a library to find information, resulting in students finishing homework faster and easier. Overall, machines are life changing devices.

DeleteMachinery and technology plays a huge role in every body’s daily life. The biggest technological achievement is the computer. Having the ability to research information in seconds is pretty outstanding. Finding the information for who the 23th president was or how many feet does a caterpillar have really quickly makes everything easier. Computers have helped everyone save time. Instead of taking a trip to the library they can head to Google to find information for speeches, presentations, research papers, school work, and so much more. The computer has also made documenting special moments in people’s lives easier. It’s easy to save photos, videos, and important documents. The computer helps people save time and special memories.
ReplyDeleteAnother technological advancement is transportation. In the early years people would only go by foot, then the horse and carriage came, later the train was built. Finally the car was invented. Nothing like the electric ones that are out today, but they got the job done. The advancement of transportation has completely improved traveling. For example, going to Florida will take a three hour plane ride, but in a car ride it may be 24 hours. The invention of airplanes made transportation faster. Another form of transportation is by boat or ship. It might not be the quickest or the safest, but it shows how the machine has developed. The fact that a ton of metal and steal can float shows how much technology has advanced.

ReplyDeleteBill Gates “I think it’s fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we’ve ever created.” I do not disagree with Mr. Gates because computers do empower individuals to become more independent by self serving such as being able to order products on line, create on-line businesses and instantly communicate. In addition, it is the vehicle that allows individuals to seek information from many different sources on-line.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that computers have provided humans with a sense of freedom but to say that it is the “most empowering” is a far stretch in my opinion. The one machine that has provided independence, increased our economy, and provided the ability to bring people together is the car.
The first car that was built was the Ford Model T in 1908 by Ford Motor Company. Having a car provided each household with their own form of transportation allowing them to seek jobs farther away. Families were able to visit each other because the mode of transportation was easier.
The car also contributed to the economy. The gas industry was able to make money and jobs were created as the demand of cars increased. For the United States it was an immediate benefit because America was the first with a practical model of the car.
Without cars it can be crippling as it can be a barrier to finding a job outside local areas, makes it harder to move around and the economy could come to a halt with out basic mode of transportation
I felt that you explained yourself very well. The car definitely made a huge impact on the economy, and the overall way of life in the world. The only problem i found was your paragraph structure. The piece would have been better if your last three paragraphs were all one. Other than that, I thought your work was very well written.

Without computers, the world and the people living in it would have a different and more difficult learning and working environment. With “the most empowering tool”, as stated by Bill Gates, our lives as humans had became much easier. For instance, without this invention people would have no other choice but to go to the library and read to find their information. Computers were made to have extremely fast access to the websites that contain the specific information that is needed. In addition to this change without computers, we would have to use a type writer and would have to write personal letters to the people they would desire communicating with. In addition, without this important and useful invention, social networks would be nonexistent. Social networks are beneficial to the people who would like to find others that they can’t necessarily get in contact with at the moment. This provides people the support they need in order to get in contact with their old friends and loved ones who may live on the opposite side of the world. As it is to many, the computer was one of the greatest inventions of technology.
ReplyDeleteThe GPS was another great invention in the history of the world’s technology. Because of computers, the GPS was created to have a voice and a location activated in order for it to say the direction in which is instructed to follow. With this navigating system it is less difficult than to being required to use a map while take a trip. Struggling would have occurred within a ton of people if this was not created. Instead of a GPS, maps would have been used and read by people while traveling unsafely. The use of this could lead to getting lost or ending up in a totally different location than expected. Although this invention is no magnificent tool compared to a computer, they both have a useful purpose for being created.

Now, instead of using computers to calculate the path of a missile, students are using computers to type up their essays for writing class! The computer has had a very positive impact on modern society. For instance, companies would not be able to advertise their products well to the public. From internet ads, to designing what is going on the giant highway bill boards, computers are needed. For these reasons, the computer has made a huge impact on society. Without this vital technology, simple things would be almost impossible.
I agree that sometimes the use of technology is misused by people but if it wasn't for computers many things would probably be unknown to few. For example the only way someone knows about the news is because they have a computer or if someone wants to see someone from across the country they can chat among themselves through a computer. Without the computer, everything would have to be done by hand and with the use of books. Using books to look up information is time consuming and not as quick as a computer would be. Going through dicionaries and encyclopedias is much harder than just going on the computer and typing in what you need. Machines such as the computer are very life changing and hopefully it just gets better.
Technology has improved our lives during the year. Technology such as the computer made our lives easier by sending imformation faster and safer. In the old days people used to send imformation and letters by horse. When people send letter by horse, it takes a couple days to get to it's destination. But with todays technology you can send a letter in a matter of seconds.Also in the old days people weren't sure if there letter will make it. Theives used to rob people taking letters and some times even kill them. But now a click of a button you can send mail and you will know its going to get to the person.

If they were rich they would read books but if they were poor they wouldn't know anything. But now almost everyone has a computer. So they can look up imformation and write blogs!
Another good ivention could be the telephone. It lets you talk to people from across the world or street. Telephones can also text, take pictures, and search up things. For example, the newer Iphones. The new Iphone has something called siri. You can ask siri any question and she will awnser it for you. Todays technology makes our lives so much easier. Maybe in the future the world will invent something else that will make our lives even easier.

In the past there wasn't any technology, everything try learn was from books or from people passing down information. Technology has made our lives easier in several ways, to start off we can find information about something we need in matter of seconds, we can go to google search what we need and a lot of websites that have information about the subject pops up. Also for business people most of them use email to communicate, email is used a lot to communicate with other people, this is good because people won't have to pay to send Mail they can just type and send.

I can get a lot of information put it in my own words, tripe it, And get a amazing grade. For instance, lets say someone is seriously injured from a car accident and they are in a coma. Monitors will help nurses and doctors follow their pulse and heartbeat. This way, they can continue to work and help the patient as needed knowing they are alive.

The I- Phone can help people contact others while looking for directions for somewhere. The Mac laptop is more convenient for people to travel with, especially on business trips so people can do work on the plane. Overall, technology keeps advancing and helping society in many ways.
A machine can definitely be life-changing because it can either help a person or harm someone. It can help a person in doing a task and it can harm a person by making them addicted to the machine. One of the biggest examples is a cellphone by which everyone has nowadays, even possible a 10 year old. Cellphones do help in a way that they help keep in touch with people from another country but it has become addicting, especially teens, they tend to have their phones with them at all times without realizing that they can get addicted to it. A cellphone isn’t exactly a drug but it has become one of the main machines that are useful yet harmful. For example if someone is driving and they get a text or phone call the person could get distracted and either have a car accident or run over someone, that is why cell phones need to be use when necessary.
ReplyDeleteA machine that has an impact on society is the computer. It has helped everyone all over the world and is now more portable than ever. Computers are made in different sizes depending on people’s needs and uses. It has definitely help people get the information they need, do a report, or used simply for entertainment. Overall machines have made an impact on society in many different ways.
When race car drivers want to go test their engine and cars balanced, they go take a dyno test. A dyno test is short for dynamometer test. Which tests a couple parts of your car, like the engine, gear box, tear rotation and exhaust. All those parts are hooked up to a computer that measures and gives you a chart , on what are your car needs tuning on . If your wondering how it works , well first you need to put the car on what is basically a huge treadmill, then you hook the parts, explained in the second sentence, after that you put the car to multiple, test by topping the car to the top speed. Lastly the computer gives you the results. Before dyno testing people has to use sound , timing gears and the speed indicator.
ReplyDeleteAnother way computer are need related to cars is the ons actually in it. If you didn't know already your car has a computer. That tells you how fast your going , controls your gear and if your have a hybrid controls how much gas you use. Computers in your cars, also do what you tell it to do for example , turning on the ac, rolling down the window and window wippers. Now that computers are getting better and technology is getting greater, CARS park themselves and tell your about to hit something . With the machine , we have to go old school and do stuff manually.

ReplyDeleteIn my view I think machines are life changing in many ways. The first reason is it keep people alive. For example, if you are in a car accident and you stop breathing they can use a stock charge to make your heart be again and it could save your life. Every day machines keep people alive. Examples of this are when a old person needs a oxygen so they don't stop breathing it keeps that person alive. Or when a person in a coma cant eat a machine feed tha person to keep thats person alive.
ReplyDeleteOther reason is it tells us when were injured. For example when i was playing baseball over the summer 3 years a go i broke my shin because the batter hit a line drive at me. Now i thought it was just a sprain but we went to the the doctors the next day and he said it was a fracture. Now if it wasn't for the X-Ray machine i would have never have healed properly and would have done more damage to it.
technology and machine now days is life changing, nows days there less jobs because machines are taking labor work away from people and now we have less jobs. but without technology we would be still building this so called world andd nation we live in today, machines and tecnology is changing every minute. hospitals are important to because of all the special mchines they have inside, for example x-Rays, cat scan, breathing machines, monitor for everything to make the patient know whats wrong.
ReplyDeletewithout machines we wouold be living in a cold world especially now because its winter. now days we have machines that heat up the whole house in a couple mins but no need for makin a fire to heat yourself up. theses technology and machines arent best yet but there always going to be improving on something.most machines are what shaped the usa; but there not always good they could kill people if you dont know how to use them. without machines we wouldnt be where we are today.
This quote is very much true, and I agree with it. It is very obvious that the modern technology we use today can enhance our lives. A good example is that of personal experience, like right now if we didn't have computers than we wouldn't be doing the assignment of blogs. Also without computers we wouldn't be able to do a lot of the work that we do today like presentations, essays, gathering information, and many more. If technology didn't essist our lives would be som much harder because these technologies can make our lives easy; we can learn new things in a split second, we can work, communicate, entertain ouurselves, and there is a limitless of possible things that we can use the internet for.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day people had life made hard, there was no technology. Imagine having to still have to use a typewriter, or to not be able to communicate with your loved ones that might be far away. Just imagining that is hard because we have grown and become adapted to having these technologies that can make our lives easier. Sometimes I think of the effects of the world if today we didn't have modern and davanced technology; I think we would go crazy. But maybe we can also benefit of not having technology, maybe we can go back to times before and not be so lazy and just go out for a walk and enjoy life. Although the machines we have today are VERY beneficial, they are not the best solutions to all problems.
