Blog 2: Practicing Narrative

Response due Tuesday September 25, 2012:

In the spirit of this week's assignment, think about the numerous events and memories that have impact on a person or character. Using your favorite story (book, video game, movie, folktale, etc.), demonstrate how the events shape the character in both positive and negative ways. Focus one paragraph on the experiences and the reactions of the character, as well as the lesson and change that occurs as a result. Focus another paragraph on the story telling aspect of the piece you've chosen. What makes this a good story, in your opinion? Think about the way the story is told, the emotions involved, the tone or atmosphere of the tale, along with any other aspect that make it unique and memorable.

  1. In the movie, Chicken Little, the main character, Chicken Little, changes in positive ways. He claims the sky to be falling, and no one believes him . He tries to help the town, and no one still believes him. But he never stopped trying. Chicken destroyed the impossible, like winning his school’s baseball game. He is excited about winning, but keeps his modesty. He finds a little alien and keeps it safe. He tells his friends and he brings them to the spot where aliens were, and they had left. Soon enough, they showed up again and helped his little friend get home. Chicken Little stayed positive and helped save the town.
In my opinion, this is a good story because the animals have cute names, and it is pretty easy to follow. The way the author portrays the movie is astonishing, the cartoons are so real, and the characters are realistic. No one would believe “the sky is falling”! They were in denial, just like people would. It’s very unique, and I’m glad someone created such a realistic, funny, and cute movie.

  2. My character I am focusing on is a man named S117. Otherwise know by his first name John. S117 is an elite soldier from the future born into combat. At birth, the boy was an average child until he was abducted to become an elite recon soldier made to defend and offend his race. At a young age, the Master Chief was operated on to not feel emotions and gains a lot of muscle mass. After years of extreme training, he is given one thousand pound armor and starts his journey to defend the human race. While he can't feel any emotion, he has made a strong connection with an AI named Cortana which is his companion through his adventure. Cortana is programmed into a chip that the Chief can insert into the back of his head. Cortana also helps him with locked doors and systems. She and the Chief have bonded very strongly. The Chief is greatly feared among the covenant because of his reputation to killing everything in his way.

One of Chiefs most famous missions he goes on is the ending of the third game released in the series. His goal in this mission is to destroy a forerunner (a native race of machines that are very advanced) structure and escape. This mission is action packed and includes a lot of driving and alien contact. He escapes the structure by a hair by jumping a jeep off of a high ledge into a ship and driving it away. He made this mission with his other companion the Arbiter. This alien joined the Human team in the beginning of the third game, before then he and the rest of the covenant were considered threats and would have been attacked on sight. Anyways, the Arbiter was in the front of the ship driving and the Chief was in the loading bay pinned with flying items. A slip space portal opened and half of the ship made it through. The Chief was left in outer space which concludes the third game.

    1. The lesson learned from this character is that he can accomplish anything with hope and determination. He learns this because he has survived the un-imaginable and gets through and out, as along with in of anything. His efforts changed the universe and resolved such serious problems and from that he is un-stoppable.

  3. The main character in my favorite nonfiction story is Eric LeGrand. Eric was a junior at Rutgers University, and a defensive tackle for the Scarlet Knights football team. Eric was playing a regular game of football against Army, when his life flashed before him. As he went in for the tackle against Army’s Malcolm Brown, Eric became paralyzed from his neck, down the rest of his body. He went through many surgeries for his spinal cord, and gradually started healing. The best part about this story, in my opinion, is all of his fans who supported him the whole time. For example, at every Rutgers event, there were bracelets and clothing being sold. The money from the merchandise was all donated toward his surgery and hospital bills. Unfortunately, Eric hasn’t regained his mobility. I like this story because it is very touching. It’s so realistic, and makes me think twice about how fast my life could change.

Eric LeGrand must have learned numerous lessons through his traumatic experience. He learned to never take life for granted. His life is changed forever, and he cannot do most things he used to do because of it. Also, LeGrand definitely learned how generous and supportive people can be. Through all of the donations and work from the doctors, he must’ve discovered how many people love and care about him and his recovery. Eric has obviously been changed in both positive and negative ways. He is clearly changed negatively, in that he is paralyzed from his neck, down. However, he is also changed positively by learning how fast life can change, and to enjoy a great life while you have it. Also, he learned how important it is to have facilities and doctors to help handicapped people to recover, especially since Eric is planning to walk again someday. Therefore, the devastating nonfiction story of Eric LeGrand will definitely make me think twice about my life, and how it can change in the blink of an eye.

  4. In one of my favorite novels, Life as We Knew It, the main character Miranda goes through a major change. She goes from an immature and naïve fifteen year old teenager, to a strong and independent one in just six months. Most fifteen year olds are worried about a report that’s due for school, but in this novel, Miranda worries about keeping her family alive. This book has an “end of the world” scenario going on throughout the plot, and Miranda is caught in the middle of it. She is forced to limit herself to three small meals a week, and at one point in the story, her whole family catches the flu. Yet she is able to keep them all alive with just Aspirin and damp towels. Because of these catastrophic events, (like tidal waves engulfing the entire east coast) the main character learns to be a stronger and more independent young woman. Therefore, she changes in a positive way.

This story is told in diary form, so the reader can completely understand the main character’s point of view. For instance, if something very important happens one day, she writes in great detail about it. She pours out all of her emotions into the pages and even though the diary is fiction, it really seems as though it’s actually happening. In my opinion, this story was very exciting, and a fun read. There wasn’t any real action, but it made you read to the very end to find out the final outcome of her family. Even though it wasn’t real this ongoing to story about the struggle of Miranda’s family trying to hang on to the one thing they have left, hope impacted my life significantly. It taught me to appreciate the little things while I have them, because you never know when they can all disappear.

  5. In the movie ,Girl in Progress, the main character, Grace, changes to a negative way to a positive way. In the movie her daughter, Ansiedad, doesn’t have her mother’s support. Her mom had many jobs and is fighting to have at least two jobs to pay bills and to the school her daughter is going to. But then she looses her second job as cleaning houses. Then her daughter turns rebellious and is calling for help. Her daughter plots a shortcut to adulthood and creates a coming-of-age story. Her daughter is trying to leave her mother. Ansiedad talks to her writing teacher and tries to get help from her, but doesn’t get as much. Near to the end of the story, Ansiedad leaves a letter to her writing teacher. Her teacher goes to visit her mother and tells her that she left a letter but her teacher thinks it might be for her mother. When her mother reads the letter she finally realizes that her daughter was calling for help and she wasn’t there when she needed it. At the end, Grace and Ansiedad become a happy family and grace turns in to a positive way.
My opinion for this movie is that it teaches a good life lessons and is really detailed. The movie was easy to follow and that actors acted really good. Also, it was funny but also sentimental. This movie would help a lot of mothers with children and show you how to help your child. This is one of my favorite movies!

  6. The character I have chosen is, Jimmy Smith Jr. who is played by Eminem or Marshall Mathers in the movie 8 Mile. In this movie Jimmy Smith has to struggle with a hard family life and personal problems while at the same time he is trying to get his dreams out by becoming a music artist and find his voice in the music industry. Many things start to go wrong for Jimmy such as people not believing in him or whether it just people aren’t feeling his musical flow, but he sticks to his dream. He knows that by staying positive the whole way one day he’ll get to where he wants to be in life one day. Then with his hard work when it comes to making music and by being good at what he does he shows everybody where he’s going in life.

The plot of this story makes you start and think how bad some people may have it in life, but if you love something you have to stick with it because you never know if something like this will ever come to you again. Sometimes people let their dream go and can never get it back which is something people regret doing. We all grow up wanting to be somebody and you can make that happen but, you just have to believe in yourself and do something with your life. Therefore, this movie taught me to believe in myself and even if people let you down and don’t believe in you, only listen to yourself because you may only get one chance.

  7. In the story A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks, the main character, Landon Carter changes his negative qualities and perspective throughout the story to positive. He is introduced to us in the beginning of the story as a very rebellious seventeen year old. He was the type of teen that could careless about school and preferred to hang out with his friends, which weren’t the greatest influences either. This is all because of Landon’s father. He was never there for him as a boy, so Landon grew up hateful and having no type hope in him. However, once he meets Jamie Sullivan, his world takes a three hundred and sixty degree turn. Jamie is the minister’s daughter, so she is very serious about her religion and beliefs. She always carries her mother’s bible in her hands. At first, Landon was not interested in her at all. But once he joined the school play, they were both the lead roles. This brought them closer throughout the story. In addition to the play, Jamie even brought Landon to the orphanage she goes to during Christmas time to read to the kids. This is when Landon realizes he fell in love with Jamie. In connection with Landon loving Jamie and always spending time with her, he begins to look at thing through Jamie’s eyes and even begins to get the bibles point of view on things. All of this in a whole changes Landon in the end. Even though there was tragedy in the story as well, this doesn’t make Landon upset or sad. He knew Jamie and her love was still with him. He compares her love to the wind; he can’t see it, but he can feel it. At this moment, Landon started to believe and he knew for a fact miracles do exist.

This was one of Nicholas Sparks’ great novels. It was one of those books you just couldn’t put down. Each paragraph and chapter kept you hooked throughout the story; you would always wonder what would happen next. The emotions in this book are what really make it a great story. Sparks’ makes you feel the main characters pain and happiness with vivid details and descriptions. It’s as if you can really feel what the character is feeling. What I also like about this story is the plot. Most love stories, you would imagine, wouldn’t end in a death. Even though this story did, the main character didn’t dwell on the situation. He learned from it in so many positive ways. All in all, this book told a great story about hope and believing in something. This can really touch the reader’s heart, especially in the conclusion of the book.

  8. The movie that I choose to write about is Ace of Hearts. I choose this movie because it has a very interesting plot and great messages to convey. In the beginning of the story Julia , the main character, doesn't have a connection with her dad. She does have a close friendship with her dads dog as well as her dad with the dog, Ace. When Ace is tracking down the main criminal Goliath he is accused of attacking him. Ace is then sent to be euthanized for being classified as a dangerous animal. This made Julia and her dad feel depressed, but they didn't know that Ace had escaped from the vet office. When Ace saved money from being robbed at a bake sale he was put on the news and Julia saw him. She become estatic when she saw this, but depressed when her parents didn't believe her. She went to all lengths including making her father drive over an hour to where he was last seen. When they arrive he has already escaped to find his way back which is very disappointing for the both of them. On their way back home Julia sees Ace on the back of a convertible, but her dad doesn't. Finally Ace arrives home just in time to save Julia and her mom from a terrifying attack by Goliath.
This was a fantastic piece in my opinion because it had suspense and interacted with my emotions. This movie wasn't just suspense though it was also a lot of drama because of the difficult bonds between the father and daughter and dog. Also because it included two themes that anybody can relate to: never give up on family and if you love something set it free if it comes back its meant to be. The movie included love, fear, excitement, depression, and anticipation. this movie is great because it was never slow and kept me on the edge of my seat living the life of Julia throughout the movie.

  9. In the movie Tangled the main characters name is Rapunzal. Rapunzal was an obedient lost princess who was stuck in a tower for eighteen years. During these eighteen years Rapunzal had developed an itch to see what the outside world was like. Little did she know that she was a lost princess. She always knew that there was something special about her because of her magical hair. One day Rapunzal decided that it was time to break the rules. Obedient as she was, she left her tower. Rapunzal discovered new things being out on her own. She learned that you shouldn't always trust what you hear and found out what it was like to be betrayed. From leaving her tower she was reunited with her real mother and father and was accepted back into the kingdom.

This is a good movie because it has few motives. It definitely shows the bond that two characters can build with friendship and trust. It also shows emotions that the main character is going through and even young audiences can relate. The movie has humor in it as well, which is always entertaining. The ending was my favorite because of course it was a happy ending and i think that's what we all deserve.

  10. The character I have chosen to focus on is Sarah Crewe from A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Sarah had to overcome many difficulties in this book. She changes in a positive way. Other than the fact everything turns out OK the journey to make it that way was hard. Sarah changes in a positive way. For instance, she learns o face her fears. Sarah, faces her fears by standing up to the bullies who were once her friends. After she does this she is not afraid of getting made fun of and doesn't try to hide who she is. Sarah learns to be herself and no one could tell her otherwise. As a result the girls pick on her but she now ignores them.

In my opinion this story is very inspirational. It shows that no matter what point of time it is someone will always get picked on and there is no such thing as a perfect society. Also it shows that if you do get picked on you aren't alone, there are more people exactly like you who feel the same pain. Throughout the story the author explains Sarah's feelings and thoughts going through her mind. For example, when the girls make fun of her Sarah gets sad and is on the verge of crying, but refuses to. She is also angry and feels as though she should hit one of the girls, but doesn't. The story is unique because of how the author made Sarah. She pun many qualities into her that I have. This helped me relate to how she feels. I am very glad I have read this story because it helps me look on the brighter side of life.

  11. The main character in the movie, A Cinderella Story, goes through a very important and positive change in her life. Sam Montgomery, a small town girl, wishes to be with the most popular student in the school. Throughout the school year, she is put down by cruel girls who have what she doesn’t. She also doesn’t believe that things were never going to happen the way she wanted them to. This effects her confidence level and how she thinks of herself. When the plot of the movie gradually develops, events that cause people to interact with Sam helps her build more self-esteem. This makes her realize that if she doesn’t want to be pushed around by her step mother, step sisters, or girls at school, she can prevent it from happening. By the end of the movie, the main character learns a life lesson on how if she believes in herself, things that were meant to be will happen over time. She also changes into a person who doesn’t care what other people think. This helps her get through her life without difficulty.

Overall, this is one of my favorite movies that I have took the time to watch. I have great interest in the plot itself. I love how the movie develops the conflicts and carries them out until the end of the film. In addition, I liked how the actors and actresses were directed to act as if they were real high school students. This helps the younger viewers want to continue watching, due to the fact that they might be able to relate to the issue that is conveyed. What also caught my interest was how everything turned out just the way Sam had desired it to be like. It really fit the “fairytale” idea of the movie, just like in Cinderella.

  12. A book that I read recently titled "That White Girl' definitely has become one of my favorites. Amber, the main character faces several conflicts including culture, race, drugs, and typical teenage struggles. She led a double life and experienced many hard- edged things outside of her semi-normal home. Amber decides to attend a school on the opposite side of town with different types of people - a cultural mix. She joins a gang, graffiti's the neighborhood, does drugs and participates in just about every other illegal activity. Amber encounters racism and unfairness ; this opens her eyes. Soon she recognizes the world she lives in isn't as she expects it. The main character reacts violently through her words and is often hurting and venting to her closest friends. Typically, Amber turns to these habits listed above as a reaction. Throughout the novel, Amber matures and distances herself away from this life that has shaped her. She doesn't know how to let go without forgetting about her past. Amber decides that living in Denver surrounded by such horror and crime is not the best place for her. The time comes and she heads off to college, occasionally keeping up with life back at home. College molds her into a wise woman , who will soon come successful. She still gets into a certain deal of mischief but she truly realizes right from wrong and lraves her old ways behind.

This story was so memorable because of the way I felt during every single emotion and event. I grew extremely attached to the character and at some points could relate myself to her. It was written in teenager terms including the language, descriptions, and the raw feelings. Amber telling the story from her point of view made things very understandable because at all times you felt as though you could connect with her. The author included the smallest details and constant sensory details throughout the novel allowing the reader to get a good glimpse and an incredible understanding of Amber's daily life. Throughout the whole book I was hooked to find out what changes would take place in Amber's life, and what unexpected event would take happen next. Structurally, it was not very well-written but the story was memorable and most parts of the book stick out in my mind. Ultimately, it was written with a lot of detail, much scene setting, plot twists and relate-able context which all made the story one of my favorites.

  13. My favorite book series is the phenomenal Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. The main character is Harry and as an infant his parents were killed by an evil wizard named Lord Voldemort. Voldemort tried to kill Harry, but was unsuccessful. This gave Harry the nickname and fame of the boy who lived. Having both parents killed and having to live with his disgusting Aunt and Uncle. Harry’s life has taken some unexpected turns. His parents dying have had some positive and negative effects on him. A major negative is being an orphan at such a young age. Also, when Voldemort tried to kill Harry parts of Voldemort went inside Harry. Most of Harry’s life Voldemort has been living inside him. However, some positive effects are Harry has so much fame for being so little. Lastly, in my eyes I believe his parents dying has given him a confidence boost and he knows that he can do anything he puts his mind too. Those are some of the positive and negative effects of losing his parents at a young age.

The Harry Potter series has been such a big part of my life, that I can’t remember a time when Harry Potter wasn’t being filmed or being written. The books are so well written and the plot just sucks you right into it. I’m in love with these books. A good book for me has to have an amazing plot and most important it has to be well written. Harry Potter meets these qualifications and more. I think this series will be very memorable because it was the first of its kind. No one thought of writing about young wizards going to school and dealing with wizards. I will always love these books and my kids will definitely know about these masterpieces. Harry is a one of a kind character. Harry Potter is legendary and everyone knows about these amazing books.

  14. The character that I am focusing on is named Batman. Bruce Wayne also known as batman is a millionaire. He goes around buying cars, houses and anything you can think of. But this is his personality only in day time. By night he is a crime fighter. The reason he is a crime fighter is because his parents were murdered when he was a little kid. Ever since that day he swore that he will help anybody in need. This is how Batman was created. He started crime fighting when he got older. He started off stopping bank robberies, and muggings. Then after a while he started to get known. He started to stop evil corparations. One of the corparations that he tries to stop is owned by his arch enemy The Joker. They both go back to back in fighting. Sometimes Batmans wins and sometimes he loses. This happens in almost all his movies. Some people think he has negative qualities because he hides his identity. But others think he has positive qualitys because he helps Gotham City to stay safe.

In my opinion he has alot of positive qualities such as he never gives up and works hard. This can help people to stay positive.

  15. In the story "The Truth about Forever", Macy has several negative conflicts occur in her life. The major one that really changes everything for her is when her father dies, and to make it worse, she watches her father die. He passes away from a heart attack right in front of Macy, and she can't do anything to stop it. Obviously this is a tragic event that Macy has to encounter, but it actually ends up bringing her closer to her mother and sister, and results to her meeting new people. Macy, her mother, and her sister all share one thing in common which is sadness over the death of their main man in life. With this it brings them all closer together to grieve but also begin trusting each other more. Macy also takes some of her father's old advice and start living her life to the fullest and begins meeting new people, who eventually become her best friends and one of them actually her boyfriend. So even though her father's death creates a terrible impact overall, there do end up being small details to help shape her life.

This book is definitely my favorite of all time. It was a different read for me, because usually I stay away from sad books. Even though it did have its sad moments, I really loved it. What I also really enjoyed was how the author, Sarah Dessen, gives enough detail so that you actually feel like you're there with Macy through all the different events that she encounters. Even though it was very detailed, it wasn't obnoxiously detailed so it still kept my attention throughout the whole book. The book was very well written and made me not want to put the book down.

  16. The novel Thirteen Reasons Why by author Jay Asher was a very different, unique, story to relate to. The novel describes a young high school teenage girl losing the battle to the difficulties of growing up and dealing with people trying everything in their power to slowly tear you down. Throughout the novel main character, Hannah Baker, describes 13 reasons that pushed her over the edge leading to her to take her own life in thirteen different cassette tapes. From the pressures of her peers, to rumors that tore apart inside and out, Hannah tried time after time to fight off the pain and reality of how cruel and insensitive the people she thought cared about her could really be. The conflict can almost be described as Hannah against the whole world around her; she felt there was nowhere to go and soon the conflict became something within herself. After months of back and forth thoughts on where her situation stood, almost every little event that could possibly upset her the slightest bit became a traumatizing new outlook on her life slowly leading to the devastating decision.

Although this book contained a conflict very hard for anyone having a ‘normal state of mind’, the novel became more real to me with every sentence. The author describes her very thought and reaction to each event that occurred to her, allowing myself as the reader to understand and almost feel for her situation and how she’s really feeling inside. A subject not many people like to try and understand or think about for that matter had become so real to me in this one story. This novel has become one of the most unforgettably impacting books I’ve ever read. It has definitely given me a new outlook and emotion toward everyone I have in my life and how important it is to really make them understand that they are so important to me.

  17. A movie I recently saw called " My Sister's Keeper" had me feeling connected at all times, emotional, and even confused. The main character, Kate, is diagnosed at a young age with cancer. Being very weak she needed a bone marrow donator in order for her to live. Devastated with the news of her Leukemia-stricken daughter, her parents only had one solution. Together, her parents conceived another child, which is now Kate's younger sister, Anna. Throughout Anna's childhood she has been used to supply blood and other organs to her sickly sister. Anna feels worthless and eventually files paper work to sue her parents for the rights to her own body. As time goes on Kate's condition worsens and eventually doesn't have the physical and emotional strength to continue life anymore. Anna, once and eager, strong willed, and emotional wreck finally comes to the realization that its not just about what she wants for herself, its about what her sister wants. Throughout Anna's journey Kate encouraged Anna to be herself, stay confident, and not to worry about the future, because today itself has its own problems and obstacles. Moving forward, Kate no longer has the physical strength to continue with her life. So with Kate's last few days remaining, Anna spends every last second with her dying sister. Side by side Anna watched her one and only beloved sister pass away. Overall, Kate was the one who taught Anna the biggest lesson, and that was to always stay strong.

The movie is definitely on my top 5 favorite movies list. Its a movie that so many people in this world can connect with and really feel the characters emotions. The story line is entertaining and at some points will keep you at the edge of your seat. You'll want to bawl your eyes out, and at some points laugh until nothing but air is coming out. I would recommend this movie to everyone who wants to know the true reality of the world we're put in.

  18. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the main character, Scout goes through several character changes throughout the story. For example, from her Aunt Alexandria living with her and her family for a while Scout has to act more like a girl. Scout her entire life has been mostly a tom boy and has refused to wear a dress because she wants to be like a boy and go out and play in the mud. However, when Aunt Alexandria comes to visit, Scout must start wearing a dress and joining her aunt on the weekend days. This impacts Scout in both positive and negative ways. Scout does not enjoy wearing a dress and because of this she is still very opposed to this and always hates it when she has to sit and join Aunt Alexandria and her friends. However, from spending time with her aunt, Scout does learn how to become more of a lady.
The story To Kill a Mockingbird was an excellent story and gave an amazing understanding of how life was back during that time. Also I enjoyed this story so much because I was interested in it so much that I could not put the book down. Harper Lee, the author gives so much detail and she is able to put the reader in the story. This made me extremely interested because of everything that happened in the story. Since it was so well detailed I felt like I was able to live the life of someone in the south during the Great Depression.

  19. The book All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin was a very different book in relation to anything I had previously read. The main character, Anya, goes through many changes. Being from a crime family, Anya feels the need to protect everyone around her from the smallest dangers. While battling many criminal charges against her, Anya must provide for her siblings and senile grandmother. This proves difficult as her brother gets involved with something that puts him in grave danger. By the end of the book, Anya is very different compared to how she was portrayed at the beginning. A positive change that she went through, was that she realized it was not her against the world. With much effort from her friends, Anya was able to relieve some of the weight from her shoulders. A negative change that she experienced was that she lost her ability to be compassionate. After she is betrayed by a thought-to-be friend, Anya becomes ruthless and does whatever necessary to protect her family. Although she now knows that people could help her in that task, it didn't prove to be any less daunting.
This novel proved to be very hard to relate to. It was a foreign topic to think about, because my life is in no way like Anya's. With that said, the author's writing made it slightly easier to grasp the character's emotions and thoughts. Also, the atmosphere of the book was very mysterious. I was never sure what was going to happen next which made me enjoy the book more. Another positive technique that the author used in the creation of the book was having it take place in the future. This made me think beyond the book and position myself into the world created. This made me realize how good my life is and to be grateful for everything offered to me.

  20. The movie I’m choosing is Shrek, this love story that not only shows that appearances aren’t everything but also show that true love can fight anything. Shrek was only an ogre in a swamp and he isolated himself because he wanted to be feared by everybody. He isolates himself because his living by the expectations of everybody. He would have never thought that he would find true love in a beautiful princess. Everybody in the swamp wanted him dead but anyone who dared to try to get close to him would just end up being feared and yelled. His quest was to rescue a princess who lived half of her life in a castle with an evil dragon protecting it. The princess had a spelled cast by her evil godmother, her curse was that in daylight she was a beautiful princess but when the sun goes down she would turn into a horrifying ogre. When Shrek went to rescue her he wasn’t exactly what she expected to be. She was blinded by the expectation of society so she treated him badly just because he was different. At the end they ended up in love even though they weren’t from the same class.
This movie teaches that looks aren’t everything and that even though two people aren’t the same in society their love can overcome anything. No matter how a person looks on the outside, what matters is what’s inside that person.

  21. The character I chose is Buddy Pine from the Incredibles. Buddy Pine. In the beginning of the movie completely idolizes the well-known neighborhood super hero Mr. Incredible. Buddy calls himself “Incrediboy” through the beginning of the movie wanting to fight crime with Mr. Incredible through everything. He wants to be right by his side every hours of the day. It isn’t until major conflict arises in the story and Mr. Incredible gets fed up with Buddy and tell him to simply go home. This throws Buddy of completely. Towards the middle of the movie Buddy plots ways to only defeat Mr. Incredible. He simply becomes the antagonist of the story.

In my personal opinion The Incredible was a great movie. It was very well ordered in which everything fit with after and previous events through out. The story basically went through perfect chronological order. The tone of the movie really stayed the same. It was all adventure and suspense. I could never tell hat was going to happen next and I was always excited to see the characters next moves. The story was well done all in all.

  22. In the movie Surviving Crooked Lake the main character is a little girl who is talking about her fears and the trip they are going to make. She is afraid to get in the water, but her brother is always there to support her. She goes to a trip with her friends and her brother. They do a lot of stuff together but she doesn’t go on the water at all, even though her brother promises to be there for her at all time. Later on, major conflict arises, the little girl’s brother trips and falls on a piece of wood that stabs him in his heart. They now have to go home by themselves; they have no one to help them, besides helping each other. At the end of the movie, the little girl stays with her brother, because she doesn’t want to let him go, but the other girls try to make it home and asked for help.
In my opinion, this is a good movie because at the end the girl faces her fears and she stays with her brother who is dead. She tries to stay alive while her friends are looking for help and she never gives up. Also because she tries to help her friends by making the sacrifice of staying all by herself with her dead brother , who at the end she is forced to let go.

  23. Over the summer, I read the book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick. The main character of the story is a thirteen year old boy, Steven Alper. In the story, his little brother Jeffrey gets diagnosed with ALL, acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This is clearly not something normal for the Alper family, or really any family at all. Steven’s family goes through a lot of changes throughout the story because of their “new life.” Steven used to be the kind of person to bottle up his feelings, and not tell anyone about them. After finding out about Jeffrey’s cancer, all of this changes and he becomes more open about expressing the way he feels. In addition, Steven changes the way he feels about girls. For the longest time, Steven was in love with what he said was “the hottest girl” in his grade. After much realization, Steven realizes that he will never be able to make it with Renee. Eventually, Steven finds that he has feelings for a girl that has been there for him all along- his best friend Annette. At the end of the story, we find out that they go from being best friends to boyfriend and girlfriend. Lastly, another change in Steven’s life is being more of a family-person. Steven and his dad would never communicate with each other while his mom and Jeffrey were away at the hospital. Throughout the story, Steven opens up to his father, and shares his bottled feelings that he’s been keeping for so long. Steven learns to appreciate his family and even annoying little “Jeffy.”
This story is a great read because it can make you laugh and even cry at times. The characters in it faced a real struggle than many people face today. Readers who have experienced such thing are able to relate to the story and maybe even change their own lives after reading it. What made me enjoy this story so much is the several things Steven face. Making new friends, getting a solo in the jazz concert, going to the hospital with Jeffrey are only a few examples. The emotions of each character are well explained and presented in the story. Since the narrator was an eighth grade boy, it was easy to understand what he was saying and the everyday struggles he faced with school, different genders, and band. The fact that the main character and I had something in common made the story very appealing to me.

  24. My favorite story is the series of Harry Potter. I enjoyed this series because the plot was fantastic and it was very interesting. The main character, Harry, changes throughout the story. In the beginning, he is curious about what happened to his parents. They were murdered by a very powerful wizard. He is so curious about what happened to them. So, he is very demanding in trying to find information about his past. Eventually, when he finds out, he is sent to a wizard school, Hogwarts. He meets his best friends there and he is still searching for information on the man who killed his parents. He is very scared and also diligent in his work at school. He is a very good flier and he is pretty smart. The story changes him because he finds some horrible things, and some wonderful things. He becomes very mature throughout the story and eventually gets his vengeance on the man who killed his parents.
This was a good series because J.K. Rowling was so unbelievably descriptive, that I really felt like I was part of the story. She does such a great job telling the story of an innocent little boy who suffered a tragedy before he could even acknowledge what was going on. His parents were killed, and all seven books tied together at the end. Each one had a unique and intense plot that was resolved at the end. The books could make you laugh, and also make you cry. This was my favorite series that I have ever read, and I would recommend them to anyone who likes fantasy books that tie together at the end. There are so many different things that go on throughout this story that makes it so interesting. The story is told so well, it makes the reader fell like they are standing right there, watching it unfold.

  25. The character I chose is Vince Papale. Vince Papale in the beginning of the movie he is a bartender from South Philadelphia in the time period 1976. Vince is going through a rough time in his life because he isn’t getting a lot of money at the bar and his wife left him out of no were because of it. Meanwhile the Philadelphia Eagles decided to hold open try outs because last season they had a horrible record. Vince’s buddies tell Vince to try out. When Vince tries out the coaches are impressed with is skill so they invite him to training camp. To make a long story short he makes the team and went from being a bartender to playing in the NFL.
In my opinion this movie (Invincible) was one of the best movies I ever saw. The detail they put into it was amazing. This was also was an inspiring movie. This movie was inspiring because it shows that no matter who you are or where your from if you work hard enough you can do anything. This touches my heart because I live in a small town and if he went from nobody to somebody why can’t I to the same.

  26. The character I've chosen is Cady Heron, from "Mean Girls". Cady undergoes some big changes. First of all, she used to be home schooled in Africa her whole life and she has to learn to adapt in an actual high school, with actual people which is a pretty big change specially because she doesn't know ways to socialize or how school really works. Another event is that she meets the "The Plastics" when she meets them, the more she hangs out with them the more she starts to become like them. Cady happens to like Regina's ex-boyfriend, which completely makes things worst. She realizes that Regina and him are back together, so she makes a plan to destroy Regina. She doesn't just act like a mean girl, she becomes the mean girl; she disappoints her friends, her teachers, and her parents. Cady then realizes that what she is doing is wrong and so she becomes nice again, is back with her old friends, gets the guy, and learns various lessons.

I think this is a good story because the comedy the author uses it makes the story informative yet entertaining, so you can't really get bored watching it. More importantly is the way the author portrays and sends the message; many lessons are learned in this story such as bullying, which is a big problem in today's modern world that still needs to be addressed. Like a quote said by Cady "Calling somebody else fat won't make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George's life definitely didn't make me any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you." This quote means that instead of focusing and doing mean things to others, to just focus on your life and solve your own problems.
