Blog 15: Midterm Thoughts

DUE Thursday FEBRUARY 6, 2014
Now that you have persevered through at least a section of high school midterms, write a detailed account of the experience. As usual, your response should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs. Things to ponder:
· How much study/prep time did you allow per subject? Did you spread your time out evenly? Explain your rationale.
· While taking the test, what were your thoughts and feelings? Did you realize that you forgot elements afterward? Did you study the “wrong” material?
· Specific to THIS class, what were your strategies? Did you research facts/examples beforehand? How much time, honestly, did you spend on preparation? How did you use the 2 class periods (when I was out)? Please be honest.
· Overall, evaluate the midterm week thus far –including the actual tests, studying, papers, as well as the remaining classes that are going on.

  1. Before and during the midterm week, I took about 4 hours of studying on some of my important subjects; the rest took about less than a couple of hours. I was able to answer some correct answers because those are most of the things I already knew, the answers on tests that I generally get wrong are the ones that I never absorbed in my head. I did not have the ability to spread my time out evenly because I have other routines and strategies to finish or accomplish, I never had the time to myself. I do want to be free from the assignments I had so I could focus on my studies and school work. During my tests, my thoughts and feelings are adjusted to how much I could do to approve the grades in my exams. Most the times, I thought that I should have given more attention and seek help when I needed on my difficult subjects so I won't fail as much. Also, I thought that I should seek time to myself other than pleasing others, because at this point time is the most valuable thing for me.
Specifically in this class, my strategies are to give more attention and actually hand in my complete assignment on time. I was never prepared for to facts or examples for the up-coming assignments. Knowing that I'm a "single" student in this class, I used to felt comforted and that I could do whatever I need and maybe finish some work, like how I used to be un-employed. At this point, things in my life had changed and that I actually have to work hard and maybe deny others to get what I need and focus on my work to achieve success. But overall, this midterm is not the worst for me, personally. I wrote paragraphs, and answered questions that I only learned and understood, even though I could have done better. The most difficult test I took is physics; this is a subject that I usually never ood. The rest such as AP English, Understanding Writing, Yearbook, and Algebra, I tried to express all my efforts that I have based from what I achieved from the beginning of the school year up until now.

  2. This year's midterms were a bit important since this year is my most important year. I didn't study much even though I knew I had to do the best on every exam. I spent about two hours studying for like two subjects, which were Algebra II and History. I thought those subjects had much more information that I had to remember. I didn't study for the other subjects just because I knew I wasn't going to do bad in any of them. I wasn't that focused as I was last year in midterms but I'm positive that I did pretty well in every subject. I didn't want to just wing some subjects so I would skim through all my notes the day before my midterm so I could refresh my mind a little bit. I did to the best of my ability to do well in every midterm although I didn't give all my effort to study. I looked through everything so I can make sure I can walk in there knowing a least something.
I didn't really use much time while Mrs. Ell was out to study or at home to be honest. I felt like I knew the information that I had to know. I felt like my 2nd marking period for this class was my most laziest this whole year. I am going to start doing very well starting in the 3rd marking period so I can make up for what I didn't do in the second marking period. I studyed some of the vocabulary that I had to know before the midterm, other than that, I felt like I knew mostly everything that I had to do during the midterm. I feel like really good when it comes to literature and writing but I just get really lazy at times. I am starting my comeback season so I can excell in everything that I have to this year, especially during finals.

  3. As a freshman I had no experience with midterms whatsoever, even in if I did take Algebra I in 8th grade. That midterm wasn't very challenging and I ended up getting an A. Now that I am in high school, I had to worry about 7 midterms. Since you said to be honest, I will say that I while did study for my midterms, I didn't evenly spread out my time. My first two midterms were Geometry and French 2. Originally, I had just brought my English stuff home to study for my period 9 midterm, but who would've known that school would be cancelled so I had no way to study for French 2. My Geometry textbook was at home, so I studied that for half an hour or so. When the time came, my Geometry midterm was easy, considering I am great at math and the teacher let us use little cheat cards that held any formulas we couldn't remember. My French 2 midterm was challenging considering half of the stuff on there were things she didn't teach us. Let’s just say that if it weren't for the fact that the substitute teacher had been a French teacher, then no one in my class would've passed the midterm. The next midterm was understanding writing, and I was never good at grammar, so I made sure that I studied that. Fortunately, the midterm wasn't that challenging and so I got an A on that. Monday though, I had Modern World History and Biology. These were the two hardest midterms that I had, and so spent an hour studying that. Now looking back on it, I think I spent too much time stressing out on how challenging those two midterms would be. But they actually weren’t and I got the highest grade in History and the second highest in Biology. I don’t mean to brag, but I have a great memory which is why I didn’t study that long. My Art midterm was an at home project, and I spent the day before the midterm doing it. I made a 14x18 painting in about say, 6 hours or so? I also had to present it, but overall it was fun, simple midterm. My last midterm was English, and I probably had the most trouble with that one. I had studied all the short stories we had read, except for the novel. That’s mainly because we had had a test on the novel earlier and it was still fresh in my head. I have yet to see my Geometry, French 2, Art and English midterm grades, but I have a feeling that I did pretty well on them.
During the midterms, I did feel unprepared, mainly History and Biology. But thanks to my great memory, I was able to go through them and finish them before time ran out. As stated before, Geometry and Art were the easiest, with French 2 and English being somewhat challenging. While I didn't study the “wrong” material, I had failed to study more in general and that next time I should study more. Honestly, the fact that I did well on my midterms was because of my memory, and I shouldn't take it for granted, especially when finals come. In your class, the midterm was reasonably challenging. I had studied mainly grammar beforehand and had briefly touched on persuasive techniques (Pathos, Ethos, and Logos). The writing part took the longest and I had to stay after to finish. I had decided what topic I would write about, but didn't really go over what reasons I would use. I mean, I still had three, but just no detail about them. When you were out, I didn't send my time wisely. I fooled around and didn't get anything done. I've always seen myself as a smart guy, but if I don’t study the topic, then I won’t pass. Overall, midterms went by smoothly. While I didn't study as much as I could (a classmate of mine made 197 flashcards just for history), I still did pretty well on midterms. I plan to focus more on studying next time, though.

  4. High school midterms were a very stressful experience and I was not expecting what I experienced. I had seven midterms spread out through a period of about a week, and studying was the last thing I wanted to do everyday. I was most anxious for the biology midterm, I studied for almost twelve hours for it. For my other classes I only studied about an hour or two. I studied the least for the class that I was most comfortable with, like History and English, this way I could absorb and memorize all the main information. When I was taking the test I felt releved that the questions were not as difficult as I had initially thought. The questions were fairly strait forward and to the point, the history multiple choice were very tricky at times as well. For some tests I remembered key information that could've improved my work after I had turned it in but I had to move on and review for the next class so I didn't dwell on it that much. For the Spanish midterm I studied the wrong information. Instead of studying vocabulary I practiced verbs and verb endings. Most of the questions were on airport and vacation vocabulary, that luckily I slightly remembered.
To study for the Understanding Writing midterm I understudied. For that class I reviewed the persuasive strategies such as Logos, Ethos, and Pathos. I regret not looking over grammar notes and active and passive notes. Before the midterm I didn't research facts for the essay portion of the test, I feel that if I had done that my work would alpha e been more believable and persuasive. Overall, the midterm week had been a very stressful and nerve wreaking time for me. I didn't feel prepared enough for my tests and I underestimated their difficulty. Although it was terrifying, I did enjoy the half and quarter days of school. The midterm week was a new and challenging experience for me.

  5. When it came to midterms, I immediately worried about Biology and History because I considered them two of the most difficult subjects. To make matters worse, they were both on Monday. I had the weekend to study at least. I made several flashcards for those two subjects which took about two hours to make for each subject and then I studied all of them. Studying for each of them took a couple of hours. When it came to the History test, I was a bit nervous. However, making the flashcards and studying them all helped a lot and I knew most of the material and it was easier than I anticipated. I ended up getting an A. For Biology, it was a bit more difficult because I didn’t need to know all the material I studied. I knew so much information that I didn’t need to know. I got a B+ on my Biology test. For Geometry, I studied about an hour and a half. I looked over some vocabulary, formulas, made a cheat card that we were allowed to have and did some problems on a review worksheet we were given to study from. The test itself wasn’t difficult and I feel like I did well. For French 2, I looked over my vocabulary for an hour. The test itself was very stressful since most of the material on the test was stuff we did not learn. Luckily, the substitute French teacher taught us the material which helped us complete the test. I feel I did well on it. For Art, I found it fun because I got to do a comic-like type of artwork at home which took three hours and present it front of the class while giving some background information on the artist. I think I did well with that. For English, I reread all the stories and looked over which took a couple of hours and looked over some old tests which took an hour. The test wasn’t very difficult and I feel like I did good. For Writing, I looked over my notes and did some games that were provided online for about an hour and half. However, most of my focus was on the persuasive essay which I put a lot of thought into. For the test, I felt more prepared with the actual written section then the multiple choices questions. I still got an A though.
I did feel prepared for my tests but, I was really nervous that I would forget something and such. However, I feel like studying did help out a lot. I felt really confident about my History, Art and Geometry tests. They were two of the easiest. For Writing, I feel like I should have studied more for the multiple choice questions instead putting all my attention on the essay. I shouldn’t have flipped through my notes carelessly. For French 2, I didn’t study a lot because we had been translating textbook pages for two weeks and I felt like I didn’t need to look over it as much. I did feel confident about the parts of the test we did learn about. I was stressed out about the parts I didn’t know about. Luckily, the French substitute helped us out. For English, the test was okay but, there were one or two questions strangely worded. I knew the material on the test pretty well, though. The midterms went pretty well but, I feel like next time I should spread out my time evenly when I am studying and look at previous tests.

  6. When studying for the midterm, I can admit that I studied but not as much as I would of wanted to. When it came down to it, I was trying to spread out my time so I could study for the tests that I needed to study for it. But that wasn’t the case, turned out that the tests that I really studied for I failed, or just barely passed. While for the tests that I barley passed, I passed with flying colors. It’s a bit weird but pretty sweet in my book for the reason being that I’ll get the credit that I need in order to graduate. But in the process of taking the actual test I was a bit scared for the fact that if I did not do well, I wouldn’t get the credit the need in order to graduate. Or that I would have to retake the course during summer school or something. It was after I handed in the test that I felt better because my brain stopped hurting from thinking so much and also from all the worrying that I was doing during the process of me taking my midterm.

To be honest about the time I spent while the two days you were out, I was downstairs talking to Mr. Trafford about my plans and what I'm going to do when I graduate. And thats if I do graduate. Also I spent my time prepaing for other midterms that I had to take and figure out what days I had to show up and what days I didn't have to show up. And for my overall performance for my classses I would say that I was pretty surprised to find out that I ended up passing most of my midterms. And for all of my studyguides that I was given to me by my teachers, i could be honest and say that i didnt complete all of them.

For the midterms I immediately knew that I had to put in hard work and effort to help me succeed through them. Of course, midterms were a stressful and challenging week when it began. For subjects such as English, History, Spanish III, and Environmental Science I spend about an hour and a half on them days and a few weeks before the midterm. The school subjects, which I recently explained, were the easiest to study because to me I had all the information stored inside. Algebra I and Understanding Writing I took a bunch more time to study as I knew these were the ones that I would need to definitely study, especially Algebra I. For Algebra I studied for like four hours and I studied one hour for Understanding Writing. I did spread out my time evenly as I had all my notes organized and textbooks from each subject being reviewed with my very own eyes. While I was taking the exams for English, History, Spanish III, and Environmental Science I felt confident as I went through them without any trouble. For Algebra I, I felt a bit nervous concerning the fact that Math is a subject that a lot of people struggle on and I had those times before but then I became sure of what I was answering.
I wouldn’t say I studied the “wrong” material for Understanding Writing as I forgot a bit of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. I regret not studying them but I ended up getting a grade that I enjoyed. For History and English, I went over tests and I went through some important pages of information in the textbooks. During the time Mrs. Ell was out, I spend my time playing those games on the blog, which were used to study. I ended up getting great grades on my exams, but so far I haven’t gotten back my English, Algebra, and Environmental Science grades back. I expect a well-earned grade on them but for now I have to be patient and wait. My overall evaluation on the exams could be described as worried at the beginning when it was announced that the exams would count for our total average grade combined with the Final exam and other grades from the marking period. During the exams the feeling of “worry’ went away as I achieved success from the exams. I guess hard work really does pay off which is why I plan to do the same for when the final midterms come and I know I’ll study even harder for those exams.

For this midterm I think that I could have prepared myself a little bit more, but I’m happy with the grade I got. I think that I should have gone over the logos and pathos more. I should have had a better technique of studying than just looking over the notes because that might have helped more. Throughout this whole test I was kind of nervous because I didn’t prepare very well so I thought I would fail, but I got really nervous that my essay would be rushed, but it turned out that on the whole test I got a B. When you were out I used the class periods as normal periods and did things I usually would do, like study and then chat and then study some more.
This midterm was overall a pretty simple midterm. It had everything you thought us on it, so I thought that I could have done better, if I studied longer. I honestly loved midterm week because I got to leave school early and go home and sleep, or I got to sleep in. The actual tests were pretty simple, but some of them were a bit tricky. But everything on the midterms was things we learned, or things that we should know like basic information. I wouldn’t mind taking midterms all the time because I get to leave school early. I think that I did pretty good on all my midterms but I could have used better studying methods.

  9. When it came to the time of midterms I was ready . I started studying for midterms two weeks in advance each night I studied a different subject. So yes I did space my time out evenly. Even though I was ready it was a very stressful time being it was my first time doing something ever like this. I spaced my time out by studying each class a different night for example I studied English first the next night I studied for Spanish. The next night I studied for the terms and any think else I needed for writing lab. After then history, science, and lastly math This went on for three and a half weeks which includes the weeks of the midterms. When it came to test time my thought were on remembering every think and keeping track of the time. I felt very nervous that I was not going to do well during all the midterms. When it came to after the midterm I knew that I didn't for get any elements. I did not study the wrong material I actually studied to much and I didn't need to know every think.
When it came to studying for writing lab my strategies were study all the notes we took. By doing this it came in handy. Also by knowing what I was going to write about helped me write my essay for it easier. I did research my essay topic an stated those facts in my essay. Honestly I studied for writing lab on three different days. I used one class period to finish my blog, and on the other class period I used it to finish class work for another class since I needed the computer for it. The mid term weeks were actually fun because we got out of school earlier. The tests were actually easier then I thought because I thought that the test were going to have hundreds of multiple choice questions but there was at most a hundred. The studying was tiring but well worth it because when I was looking at questions I recognized them from what I studied. Overall all the classes were pretty fair.

On the midterm some of the stuff on there was hard and very stressful. I’m just glad it is over; I want summer to be here already. I didn’t study as much as I should have but, I did study not a lot but I did. I thought the history midterm was the hardest if anyone has Ms.Vail as their history teacher they would know. Most of the midterm I just wanted to fall asleep because it was so boring. Just sitting there filling out questions is so boring and when you’re done its even worst.
Every other midterm was kind of easy others I had a few problems with. This was a really hard thing for me to get a good grade on and some midterms I didn’t do so great on. I know others have like really bad grades on the midterm especially on the history midterm. I was definitely not ready for the midterms I feel like my grades might have dropped drastically because of it. It was a very scary situation and I hope to do better in the finals.

Being a freshman this was my first experience with mid terms. Honestly they were not what I expected them to be. For starters, I have a pretty good track record when it comes to preparing for test. If I’m really confident in myself and the studying that I did the days before, then mostly likely, I will get a good grade. For the midterms, being that they were going to cover much more material than a average test, I decided to study for more than just one night, and only study study guides that were given to me, or study what I struggled to remember the most. The reason for this is because trying to go over all the notes, and homework assignments, test, quizzes etc, it would be too much stress and too much to cover. I also figured that I would have to look into my notes to answer questions on the mid term review packet anyways. Doing that did help ease a lot of the stress that I was having. My goal was to study for three days for each class. Due to how my schedule was arranged it was possible for me to get it done. Even with that much time I put into studying, when the actual time came to take the mid terms, I didn’t feel nervous or scared anymore. I just felt…empty.

  12. My time studying for each subject what at a minimum. I barely studied for any midterm because I felt confident that I knew most of the material. I know I didn’t get A’s, but I know I did a fare job. As I was taking the exams I felt confident, but also somewhat worried because I wanted to do well. Some of the material I forgot, but I still tried to answer it and hope I could get some, if not full, credit for that question.
For writing class I was also confident. Also I didn’t study, I remembered most of the material. Of course like all my other midterms I forgot some stuff, but none the less I gave it my all and hope to get a good grade. I felt as though I might have spent too much time on the multiple choice because I had 30 minutes left to do my essay which was barely enough time, but with great luck I managed to finish in time. It could’ve been longer, but due to lack of time I wrote as much as I could in the time frame that I had. The midterms this year I felt were somewhat easy. I had a lot more confidence than last year and surely feel that my bad ways are slowly shifting over to good ways.

When entering freshmen year, I realized that this was the first year in which I would have to take a midterm for almost all my classes. To be honest, I only focused on two subjects that in my mind were to be the most difficult midterms I would take. These subjects were Modern History and Biology. In biology, and history, just taking one of the chapter tests were already difficult enough, but now it was time to take a test upon all the material learned throughout half the year. Since the English midterm was rescheduled due to the snow day, my first midterm was geometry. Me personally, I excel in math, and have always maintained a B+ or higher in all math classes. So the Geometry midterm was not difficult to me and I didn’t study much for it either! Then I had the Spanish midterm, which was pretty difficult, but in the end I managed. Then I had one midterm on Friday, which was the Writing midterm. To be honest, I did not study for the midterm. Writing is a material for me that is quite easy and very simple to grasp on the material learned. It could explain why I’m and all right writer and sometimes create outstanding write-ups that even surprise myself.
Furthermore, the following Monday consisted of the Biology and History midterms which was one of the most struggling days of my life. These were the two that I was wright when it came to how difficult it was. They were sufficiently long and very brain tiring. When I had finished the History midterm, despite the fact that I studied plenty for it, it still wore me out. When arriving to the Biology room, I looked like I had just seen a ghost, or went through hell and came back. I had no idea how was I going to do on this Biology midterm. In the end, the English midterm was easy, and I had succeeded on getting a B on both of the midterms that mind boggled me through out those days.
In the end, taking my first midterms is DHS was all right. The best part about it was the fact that after finishing the midterms for those days, you were able to go home! And if you had only one midterm that day, you would be back at home before 10, allowing myself to sleep even more. The experience taught me to be a bit more prepare, but so far I did well on my procedure toward midterms.

To be honest I didn’t study much for the Midterm. I only study for 2 nights and that was the 2 nights before the midterms. I studied for several classes. Most of the midterms were sort of challenging. The math midterm was easy and so was the science midterm. I didn’t research facts before the midterm. I just skimmed some stuff on the internet but I didn’t use it in the midterms at all. To study for the midterm I would write some of the things I was confused about on a piece of paper. Then after I finished reading what I was studying for I would answer the questions I wrote down.
While I was taking the test I was sort of nervous because I really didn’t want to fail the midterms. I forgot many things during the science midterm. When I continued with the other questions I would find the answer to the question I was stuck on. I think studying helped me. Although it wasn’t much studying I did at least it helped me pass most of my midterms.

To be honest, i didn't spend a minute prepping for the midterm. I know that I should have, but I was too lazy to do so. So with that, I guess that I did not spread out my time evenly. During the test, I realize that I had forgotten a small portion of what was on the test, some things did confuse me when I looked at them. I was feeling nervous because I knew that this test was going to be very important, but I tried to stay optimistic and think positive to at least try to help me do better on the test.

For this classes test, I had a terrible strategy of trying to think back to the previous lessons we did. I tried thinking about what was being explained and how to use it. I did not study at all the for the test, as well as every other test, and I don't remember what I was doing during those two days that you were gone. Overall, the midterm was an interesting experience. Being able to leave school just after an hour and a half, it felt great, and it wasn't as mentally exhausting as I thought it would be.

  16. My first midterms were good, not great. I had a good midterm experience because I had a good schedule and they were not to difficult. I actually did not study for any of my midterms. I should have studied and would have gotten a better grade, but I think I did good for most subjects except only one. I usually don't study for anything because a feel I do worse if I do. While taking the tests I felt confident in most except a couple because I did not remember a lot of stuff that I could of if I studied.

    1. For the writing exam my strategies were to remember everything I was taught. I did not research any facts or statistics because I read through the essay options before hand and I thought I didn't need any for the essay I'd choose. I did not spend to much time preparing because I read through the essay topics and I knew exactly what I was going to write. Overall I think midterm week was fun. I got to leave early every day and we had no homework or any classes.

  17. This year taking midterms wasn't that bad but i think i did good but midterms are sometimes difficult to take sometimes because you start daydreaming and forget that your actually taking a test for ten percent of your final grade. also sometimes you might forget the answer when your taking that midterm. but being a junior this year i knew that i had to do the best on each of my midterms. a lot of the time i stay stuck on one question that i know the answer to but can't figure out how to word.also i felt some teachers put a lot of answers on the midterms so i was forced rush to finish that midterm and there were a couple midterms that i had to do that on. even though i rushed some exams i think overall i did a good job because the review packets that we got really helped me i think. and i felt confident enough that i did the best that i could on my midterms. another thing i get affected is the fact i take two tests in a row and on the second test i don't fell like taking it but i force myself to concentrate on taking the test. even through all of these barriers i had to overcome i think i did good on all my midterms and my test taking in continue to improve as i get older.

  18. Now that us freshman have experienced midterms for that first time, we have more of a taste of high school. I’m sure most students were nervous about taking midterms for the first time, including myself. I just make sure I give it my all when I take big tests. I of course study but no matter how much I study, I feel like it’s never enough! I don’t think I studied as much as I should but since I know what these midterms consist of, I know what to focus on. While taking these bigger tests, I was ashamed of certain things I didn’t spend too much time on when the teacher emphasized what we should study hard for. I also had positive feelings towards these tests because I felt like I knew the material very well.
Specific to this class, I didn’t spend much time studying. First off, I was absent one of the days we had to review so I missed out on sometime. But, I spent the second day to study wisely. I didn’t play the grammar games nor did I study the styles and factors of writing certain types of essays we wrote. I have difficult time studying, and I wouldn’t know exactly how to study for this class/ subject. I am comfortable with the level of knowledge in this class anyways. I feel like things can come naturally and easy when working in this class most of the time. This class is probably the only class I feel most comfortable in due to the calm and welcome feeling that you (Ms. Ell) gives.

  19. This was the first year I took midterms. First, I studied for each subject but I put more time in subjects I struggle with such as English and Science. I studied for fifteen minutes and for the subjects I struggle with, thirty minutes. While taking the test, I felt confident that I was going to do well on them. During my science midterm though, I came across questions that I forgot. I would’ve also wished that I studied things that I learned last year because I came across them as well. For the essay we had to do for the midterm in this class, I already had the topic I was going to write beforehand. So writing the essay was a little easier because I had the three reasons. In the two class periods, I studied the notes we have taken in class. I also prepared for the essay. The entire midterm week was quite hectic because it was one after the other. But thankfully I did my studying which helped me a lot.

  20. For the mid terms in general, I didn’t study as much as I should've. For the larger subjects, such as Math, Biology, and History, I put a good amount of study time into. However, for the others, I put in about an hour all together, which is no where near where I should have. I really had an uneven balance, focusing on particular subjects, instead of looking at a spectrum. I did this with the mindset I knew what it was covering, and that can come back to bite me. While taking the mid terms, there were a few questions on some subjects, mainly History and Biology, that I didn't know, due to the amount of work we covered, or the inaccuracy of the study guides.

For this test, I reviewed our notes, and thought of what I wanted my essay to be about. However, not writing an outline, or researching beforehand, was a dumb move on my part. To prepare, I spent about 45 minutes, regrettably, reviewing my notes for the class. I honestly don't remember when Ms. Ell was out, it's a thing of mine. The mid terms were actually somewhat easier than I thought they would be, but I still plan to study and prepare more for the final.

  21. From my first experience of high school midterms was very stressful and nerve racking. I studied at least a day or two for each subject and some hardly any. I had poor study time on midterm week because after school everyday I had basketball practice or games which go until late in the day. It is difficult to manage my time better. While taking the midterms I was very nervous and anxious to get it over with. I left some questions blank, without a complete answer and/or with just an educated guess. Once I got a few on my grades back I was not happy but I expected nothing more from my poor studying. Several subjects I did not study either the right or forgot the material needed.
For the essay in this class I had asked for my moms opinion/interviewed her to add to my information. Honestly I did not spend enough time preparing for this class’s midterm. Although, I got lucky with my memorization and skill in the essay that I got a grade I was happy with. In the end, I believe I tried my best for my first midterms.

I will be honest, my midterm study plan was disorganized, and could have been better. For each subject my studying varied. For math I studied, by writing down useful and important information, such as theorems and postulates, and it took about 45 minutes. My French midterm was on Thursday, and we hadn't had school Wednesday, and of course, I didn't think to bring my French books on Tuesday. So my studying consisted of ten rushed minutes before the midterm started, on Thursday. For your class I studied about 30 minutes the day before and 5 minutes the day iof. For History and Biology I spent 1 hour each, by completing review packets given to us for homework. For English I didn't study much because I forgot my textbook, so I just tried studying off of previous tests. As I said I studied not on what I thought was best, but because of what I needed to do for that class. In Math, we were allowed a note card to help us, so I spent as much time as needed to fill it out. For History and Biology I needed to do review packets so I studied for as long as the packets took me to complete. For your class I studied because I knew I needed to review, and for French and English I didn’t have my books so I barely studied.
While taking the test for Writing, I was kind of angry at myself. For the multiple choice questions I struggled, and it’s not because I didn’t study enough, but just because I couldn’t understand the information enough to answer the multiple choice questions effectively. After the multiple choice however, I felt fine. The open ended questions weren’t too horrible and I enjoyed the essay. The choice of topics allowed for me to find one I was interested in and I was able to write an essay while enjoying it and not hating everything in the world. I didn’t study the wrong material, but I did forget some. For the Ethos, Logos, and Pathos questions I could vaguely remember the definitions, but not enough to answer the questions correctly. For other classes I also felt fine. Math to me was easy, and I knew almost every question. I was happy, in a way. French I did fell annoyed. To be honest, there were questions we NEVER learned. So having to answer things I didn't know but was expected to somehow know was a pain, and I was frustrated. History and Biology class were again fine, and I felt confident. English I felt a bit flustered because of my lack of studying, but I did remember most information just from having read each story, so I wasn't too depressed or angry.

    1. For this class my strategy was… just do. No but seriously I just hoped that from the studying I did I would know everything. I knew from the beginning that as long as I wrote a well written essay I would pass. I am confident in my writing ability so my strategy was to do my absolute best on the essay, while also trying to do the multiple choice questions well. Also, I didn’t research anything. By the time of the midterm I had still been questioning which of two essay choices to write about. For neither one was I smart enough to realize that looking up facts and statistics would be helpful to my essay. I probably could have looked up the obesity statistics for kids, or the mental disabilities rates for kids and it would have improved my essay by strengthening my points. But I didn’t. Preparation was not too much. I did study for a good 30 or so minutes. Also, in class I asked one question (not enough). This was bare minimum for me, but I believe it was better than showing up having not reviewed anything. I can’t remember what I did when you were out. I will honestly say it was the most productive I could have been. I most likely talked with some people and joked around, but I believe I did do some work on the blog. I know I was at the computer, and looked up things related to school (my grades), so I was productive, just not as much as I should have.
I like midterm week. I never really get too stressed. I know some people freak out and worry and study all day and during the tests have problems, but I was fine. I LOVED that every day was a bit shorter than a half day, getting out of school at 11:30 for almost an entire school week is incredible. The tests for the most parts weren’t too bad. I never freaked out or hyperventilated or felt sick. Also, to study I didn’t deprive myself of all fun. Someone told me that they studied 3 hours just for this class, and although that is great studying, it takes up a lot of free time. I made sure to leave myself time to relax and enjoy the shortened days. The Art midterm was the only one that caused me any troubles. Besides that I enjoyed midterms. I just don’t hate tests as much as others, and when I get to leave school early, it makes the tests worthwhile.

  23. Midterms are a fun time of year, but of course that was not always the case. When I was a freshman, I freaked out way too much about midterms, much like these young chaps. Now I realize that they are a blessing. You get basically get a week off from school. You go in for an hour and a half then you get to go home, easy. I didn't really study for any of my midterms, because there's nothing new, its all stuff we were supposed to know already. So, I can say that I studied evenly for all of my classes, mainly because I didn't study for any of them. Am I supposed to study how to write a 5 paragraph essay? Not when I've been doing it for years. Don't get me wrong I get good grades on the finals my lowest being a c, which isn't necessarily good but the others are.
For this class basically the only preparation I did was knowing the topic of the essay, which I really didn't even do until the last minute. I figured that if I couldn't learn it in 5 months I wasn't going to learn it in a day. It would have been far too much stress to cram the night or two before, which goes for every class. Plus I'm pretty sure I nailed it. The only problem was that we had a full day instead of a half day, which kind of psyched me out. I'm pretty sure I spent my time in class working on a blog or something. The test was pretty easy though, so overall, not bad.

  24. Before and during the midterm week, I honestly studied for about 12 hours total. The time for each subject wasn’t as even as it could have been because I felt that some subjects deserved more studying time than other subjects did. For my first two midterms I studied for about 5-6 hours. For the next two I studied for maybe 2 consecutive hours in and then was done. For the next two I studied for only 1 hour. For the most part during the tests I felt calm and was just using the knowledge of which I had gone over previously. For about two of my midterms I was at edge and seemed to be more jittery because I wasn’t completely sure of the answers. During the tests I realized I studied all the right material in the subjects where I actually studied.
For this class specifically, I studied for about 1 hour going over the strategies of speeches and parts of speech on the class blog. I prepared the night before for this midterm and studied with my laptop and reviewed the notes I had taken throughout the year. I honestly don’t remember the two days that you were out I apologize for that. The midterm week was the best week of high school so far. It was short and most the tests were easy. I enjoyed it and can’t wait until finals.

  25. days before the midterms I was pretty Nervous about it because it was my first time taking a midterm and there will be materials that we learned a while ago. Sometimes I would study almost for 20 mins for a subject that I am having trouble understanding. To be honest I didn't study as much, as I was suppose to. When it was the day of the midterms i was pretty frightening because I didn't know if I had studied the right materials and in my mind I had many questions such as, "will there be any fill in the blanks" " will there be hard open ended questions" will I have time to finish"
All these things were going through my mind. But I had to be confident about myself. When I took the midterms there were some materials that I forgot such as math. In math there were a couple questions that I had trouble on it was mainly on the open ended questions. Also in reading there were vocabs from the Old Man in the Sea that i forgot about too. There are a lot of people that had trouble in midterms because they are afraid that they might fail. It's our first one taking one too so obviously we will be Nervous and afraid about it.

For writing class the strategies I used for the mid terms were trying to remember the things we want over class and my notes. It kind of helped me but not a lot. To prepare myself for this midterm I studied for a little. When the test came for this class I studied a little right before class. All the midterms weren't that hard at all some were but not all. I felt like I could of done better and I should of studied more. Now I know that I should study more and pre pare myself for the final midterms.

  26. The week of midterms was indeed an unbelievably painful week to experience. I have never experienced a time where I would take exam after exam after exam. The brutality of the concrete weight these exams put on my shoulders was immense. The studying drove me to the ceiling. Every day I would basically live in my room, half asleep as the facts and definitions play themselves like a drum beating into my memory. I allowed at least three hours for each subject, so much time for a person such as me, because, I do get easily frustrated and allow myself to daydream and look out my window beside my bed. I did try my best to spread time out evenly, although, how could I all together, some subjects require more prep time than others for everyone. Sometimes, I would have to sanction myself to pertain to one subject more than another, but I did have at least three hours for each.
During each test, unfortunately, I did experience anxiety and, therefore, forgot some materials. My only thoughts were getting the midterm week over with a passing grade, whatever test I was taking. I did study wrong material because I over study a lot. I studied material that was not on the exam. For writing class, my strategies were improving my grammar skills by taking grammar tests online. Also my strategies were reviewing my notes and taking breaks when they were needed. I did research grammar before the exam and made sure I could define different terms of grammar such as pronouns, nouns, verbs, et cetera. I spent about two to three hours studying for the writing exam. It took a while for me to memorize pronouns, nouns, et cetera because there were so many variations of pronouns and adjectives. The two class periods when Mrs. Ell was out, I was probably completing a blog or doing homework whether it was for writing or not. Overall, midterm week was a week I will dread in the future years of high school. Every single night I would study, I had to go through ALL my notes to make sure I was ready. My brain felt like a pancake that has been left out in the sun for a week once midterms was over. It was a nuisance putting the papers back into their original folders after they were spread out all over the floor in my room. A few tests were harder than I imagined, but then on the other hand science was easier than I imagined…… probably because I memorized every single detail and then some.

I put in about 2-3 hours per subject. Then again I don’t really think I spread out my time evenly. During the test I felt nervous that I wouldn’t finish the test in time or finish a decent amount of it. For some of the test I did realize that id did forget something afterward. For example, with history I didn’t finish the whole test, I feel that I spent too much time on the multiple choice questions and then when it got to be that there was 15-10 minutes left I got even more nervous then I already was then I just stopped doing the multiple choice and just went straight to the open ended. I only got to finish two of my open ended, but it was better than wasting my time on multiple choice.

For studying for your test I repeatedly said things over and over again to remember the things I didn’t really understand. I researched some things beforehand but not all. For this test in particular, I spent about a 1-2 hours on preparation. When you were gone for the two days I went on some of those games that you had put on the blog for us to help us study. Overall, the whole midterm week was pretty calm for me other than having to study so much which I’ve never done before. The tests were pretty easy I’d have to say, other then maybe I could have studied a little bit more for each subject. I got done with almost every one of them but some were harder to get done then others.

  28. i honestly felt the mid terms were easy. I study for some of the subject i know that i was going to have trouble with. although most of the mid-terms from every subject had many questions not only multiple choice questions but open ended questions it was really things that was taught to us all year basically so it wasn't really hard to think about the questions. I think i kinda was relaxed about the mid-terms more then i should have been. Yet when the mid terms were in front of me i kinda just took it and didnt really overlook the test to be harder then it actually was cause if i was to that i was going to panic and forget alomost everything i was thought reflecting on me not learning anything mid way through the year.

I would say your mid terms would probabaly be the second hardest mid-terms out of all my mid terms just the simple fact that i slacked alot in your class not really pay attention and taking notes or even bothering to review it. I've learn a couple of things before the mid terms but didnt really used what i kinew because the test when it was put in front of me i just lost everything well a little bit of the things i knew. if i was to study more for your test i probably could have better my grade but i didnt take that much notes making it harder for me to study and to improve my grade for the end of the year and im willing to do that to pass this class.

For this year’s midterms, I studied each subject in the order I took the midterms. I starting reviewing the subjects the week before midterms to make sure I knew the materials. Some of the subjects were very easy to me and I had no problem finishing the tests. However, the subjects that I usually struggle with were difficult for me and I didn’t do that well on them. Also, a few test I felt rushed because there was too much to complete in that time and with that some of my work wasn’t to the best of my ability.
For writing lab I forgot to research before the midterm day because I was hung up on my other work, and everything was so overwhelming. So when I had taken the test, all the information I wrote about was from the top of my head. I wish I had researched in advanced, because I could of done much better than I did. Also, since I didn’t review all of the vocabulary words, I struggled in that section of the test. My plan for the finals is to study more and to make sure I review everything, and to use my time wisely.

  30. To be honest I probably studied like 20 minutes for each subject. Those 20 minutes I studied for was right before the test. But I really did try on the mid term reviews which I think really helped me in the end because I feel I have a pretty good memory. While I was taking the test I tried not to worry about anything. I would just do everything I could and skip what I could not do and come back to it later. If my thoughts were all on panic when i first saw the mid terms i would have failed all of my mid terms.
For this class I studied for about 20 minutes right before the test but like I said I did anything I could before the test day for practice. The two periods you were not here I did go on the blog and research on the topic for practice work. Over all I believe that midterms are a good thing to freshin up the students memory. so that everything one learned in the beginning of the year was not just a waste.

I honestly did not spend a lot of time studying for midterms. Even though I should have. But that was a bad mistake on my part. I wanted to study for at least 3 hours for each class midterm. But I never did. In the end, most of my midterms were pretty easy. Well, they were easier than I first thought that they would be. My history midterm was probably my hardest midterm, in my opinion. My easiest midterm was probably my understanding writing midterm.

My strategies for taking my midterm for this class were just to not rush my selves and try to think back to me writing my notes. I didn’t really research any facts or information beforehand. It most likely would have been easier if I did though. I honestly did not prepare for this exam. In those 2 class periods, I was really just wasting time. The midterm week was full of paperwork. It included old tests, review packets, and helpful worksheets. Some was actually really helpful but some was just a waste of time to me. The midterms were actually pretty easy in my opinion, that was actually a good thing on my part though.

I did not know what to think of the midterms when they came along. I actually thought they were pretty easy and I only did a little bad on one of them. I don't know why I did not study for one of my midterms but I don't regret it. I did very well and even got the highest grade in the whole class in one of my classes. Overall I was very proud of my grades.
The only class I semi-studied for was my history class. By semi-studied I mean that I studied just before the midterm started. I only studied for that class is because he literally said that it was just all the old tests that we took before. I studied two of the tests and they were literally the same questions and answers so it helped me a lot. I liked taking the mid-terms and if they are almost the same thing I'm looking forward to finals.

In many countries there are laws for people having to join the military for at least 2 year. In the U.S this does not exist. Do you think we should or shouldn't have laws like this. In countries such as Cuba or Puerto Rico have laws such as this where you must serve a minimum of 2 years in the military. If you do not somehow if they find you they will bring you in and make you serve or just kill you. In the U.S you should not be obligated to serve in the military. For some people they may just not feel patriotic enough to serve or others may just not want to. Some people may want to start a family and not take that risk or some may already have one to support. Also this is the U.S no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to.

For most people find going into the military as an escape to the real world or school. So some people may find it to be an easier way to get into the military without having to sign up or going through loved ones. Many people would like this idea so they can go through with things of that nature. While some may love this idea there is an equal amount on the other side against this policy.

Some would find this policy to be unreasonable and unholy for some people it may be against their religion or some may just not want to. Most citizens of most countries don’t want to have to fight in war. Some countries may not even be in a war and there would be virtually nothing for them to do.

    26. What I believe the writer means by saying “The challenge is to justify yourself as a meat-eater” is that to become a meat eater you must be able to say you are and to fully go through with being one. Also I believe that this person is trying to make it seem as if eating meat is a bad thing and we should think about all the bad that comes out of it. Like saying it causes problems with the heart and kidneys no matter what you do you are eventually going to have heart and kidney problems. Someone may refute this article by saying for thousands of years we have been meat-eaters and that may never change because if we don't eat animals they become over populated and begin to move into cities and developments. Also the animals that we eat are all farm bred animals and are raised to be killed. There are thousands of people dying everyday and no one has made any protection programs for humans so why animals? And lastly some animals are better off dead at some of the farms they are cluttered and given so many steroids that they can't even walk but nobody has made protection for those animals. So no matter what are vegitarian or a carnivor in this day and age we can be anything and noboby should be influencing us for what we want.

    27. I think that a better vegetable-based diet for people who want it but for other I don't think it may affect them. But there is a few things you can say about this petition. One being why are schools bettering food that only some may eat and why not make it food that the majority eats and then move on to the smaller majority if the the plan with the larger goes through well. Things that may be good about this is maybe this will influence the other people who do not necessarily eat the rest eat better. For some people they may love this idea especially for parents that want their parents to eat better.

  34. As a freshman I am new at this whole high school thing. I am also new at taking these tests such as the midterms. In a since I put some time into studying. Well, for most of my classes I had been paying attention in class so I felt that I was ready for this midterm. When I was taking this test, I evenly spread out my time. I took my time with the long open-ended questions because I felt that they are my weakest points when taking tests. When I am doing multiple choice questions a fly by them easy with no problem. When taking this test I felt that it was partly easy. I’m not going to lie but there were a lot of parts that I didn’t understand. When I was done with the midterm, I was pretty confident in some of my work that I did. Everything I studied was on point with what was on this midterm.

In this class specifically, I took my time taking the midterm because I think that we had more than enough time to get it done. I tried not to think about the questions to much cause’ then I would have got nervous and messed up. When it comes to studying in this class for the midterm, I didn’t study that much as I needed to. I think I could have studied more to get a better grade. To be honest, I was careless with my time the two days before hand because I thought that I knew more then I actually did. Taking this midterm, it teached me that next year I should maybe study a lot more.
