Blog 20 - What Law/Rule Would You Change?

DUE WEDNESDAY APRIL 17, 2013
All communities, rather large or small, have laws and expectations when it comes to the behavior of the members. Rules and laws are meant to keep order and peace in the community, and to ensure the safety of as many members as possible. Some countries have laws that promote equality of individuals while others purposely prefer a hierarchical structure where benefits depend on a person’s position and contribution to the community.

Think about the laws and rules we have in the United States and in Dunellen High School. If you could change or abolish a law/rule (either at the federal, state, or school level) what law/rule would it be? Make sure to provide an explanation of your choice (min of 2 paragraphs). How do you see the law/rule harming people? What would changing or abolishing this law/rule change about the community? How would we be better without this law/rule? What do you suggest as an alternative to this law/rule.
In addition to your own post, please reply to  someone else's in a few sentences. Remember, do not repeat a rule someone has already mentioned (unless you have something significant to add)

  1. Laws throughout the entire world are in place to benefit the honest people, the people who go out every day of their lives trying to do the right things, not the people who commit crimes. Laws were implied to ensure the safety of the honest working class. Laws have been around since people have been on this earth, when there’s Bad, good will always arise to even out the situation the clash between the two in doing the right things or doing the wrong things, breaking the law for your own benefit is always going to be a scenario that’s always going to be around. The only thing that’s stopping that from getting to hectic is the law and the enforcers of the law.

A law that should be eradicated is the law about having a plastic cover over your license plate, i don’t understand how this is a law? I don’t think that a clear cover over the license plate on a car is altering the vision of an officer or anyone else that has to see the plate. I was pulled over a couple of weeks ago by an Dunellen cop for that very reason not only was he stalling me to look for a reason to cite me but when I have been pulled over before I have never had a problem with that until now. Changing this law would not change how the community functions or change anything at all, I feel that this law was put in place so that the police divisions have another reason to cite people hence making more money for their towns station.

  2. I have recently found out about a rule in Dunellen High School that I do not agree with. All cell phones are not supposed to be on a student’s person they have to be in their backpack or their locker. This rule is not useful to any of the students. In this day of technology a cell phone is part of someone’s life and if they lose that then that person feels that they are losing a part of them. However, that can happen much easier to someone if their phone is in their backpack or locker.

For example, there are parts in the school day where students will leave their backpack unattended. That gives someone else the ability to go into their backpack and take it. Also with the locker if someone tried hard enough they can get them open even with a lock blocking their way. However, when a phone is on their person people always know where it is and never have to worry. Another point that comes up is that no one follows this rule and I do not know any teachers that enforce it. Students in our school always have their phone on them and I have never seen a teacher give them a hard time about it. They should definitely just get rid of the rule especially if no one follows it and no one enforces it.

  3. If there was a rule or law that I could abolish, whether in school or in the government, it would be a tough decision. However, I am going to choose to go with a school law, and the law is about the renaissance. The renaissance cards are practically useless. The only real good thing someone will get is homework passes, and even then one could not use them all the time. But, it is so hard to get a card. For a gold card, one would have to be on the honor roll, in a club, and the person is allowed 1 late and 2 absences. That is really hard to do. Some people have problems that don’t allow them to come to school sometimes. But in order for those people to get excused absences, they need a doctor’s note, and they have to be absent for at least three days!
Now that is just not fair. Let’s take another look. Why can you have more absences then lates? Is it because you miss more school? Because someone would need to check that math; people miss more school with absences, because they don’t go to school at all. At least if someone is late, they make it through the majority of the school day. So, these restrictions should be let down a little bit, or the reward should be better. The rewards are 2 free cookies, 4 homework passes that someone can’t use for the same class in a marking period, and discounts when entering school events. Let’s face it, how many school events do we have that allow discounted entries? A couple of basketball games? A few football games? It’s ridiculous. I may be ranting, but it’s definitely true.

  4. The purpose of rules or laws is to protect or benefit us. However, some rules are unnecessary and quite pointless, actually. For example, one rule in Dunellen High School that is completely pointless and unbeneficial for the students is not being able to have your cell phone on your person. This is one rule I completely disagree with for many reasons. First of all, why shouldn’t students carry their own phone on them? This is their personal property and I can understand if they wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it in a locker. Also, let’s say an emergency occurs and someone needs to get in contact of the student through their phone. In this situation, the student would get their phone taken away and may suffer two office detentions. If a relative or some type of higher authority is trying to get in contact of a student while they are on school, I believe they would have the right to text back or answer that phone call, with the permission of the teacher of course so they won’t be disturbing the class. A student shouldn’t get into trouble for something small like answering a phone call.
Another problem with cell phones is using them in class. I believe students should be able to use their cell phones in class as long as they are not disturbing the class in the process. Also, most teachers believe it’s disrespectful to use cell phones while they are teaching. Odds are the student never cared in the first place and sadly, that’s their problem. They are the one who is going to able to deal with the bad grade since they aren’t paying attention. But of course, this isn’t always the case. All in all, if this rule was abolished, students wouldn’t feel so restricted when it comes to using their phone and even having it on their person. Instead of punishing the student that has their phone out, just let them suffer their own consequences since they are the ones not listening in class. As the old expression goes, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”.

    1. Great job! I agree with your response, especially when you said that it should be the own student's fault for using their phone in class. Your reasons were explained well, I really enjoyed reading your rebuttal to the rule.

  5. If there would be a law I could change, it would be the gun carrying permits. The world as it is today is very much affected by gun laws. Recently, there have been many shootings in the USA and gun laws are constantly being changed to make the people happy. My view on this simply derives from an NRA quote, “In order to stop a bad guy with a gun, you need a good guy with a gun”. This quote really makes me want to be able to change the law so more people can carry concealed fire arms.

The reason why having more people carrying firearms would be beneficial would be because there would be a lot less crimes. For example, in Colorado, there are laws so civilians can carry weapons with them. In Colorado, there is a lot less crime than New Jersey or other states. The reason why that is, is because there are more people with guns to stop criminals with guns.

  6. To me I wouldn’t change a law because the laws protect us from any harm. But one I have in mind is the law of children required of going to school. Many students nowadays don’t want to go to school and say that they are better off working. I also disagree because many children have to go to school to have and education and to live a successful life. But my point is that in school they teach them science and history. And many students ask them selves, including I, why we need to learn that. Its true but it’s a requirement of the law.

All of the laws have protected us and kept us away from harm. For example, the freedom of religion helped us a lot because many people were strictly required to be Catholic or Christian. Another good law is the freedom of speech. This law helped us conquer our fears and to tell the government about our thought and ideas. Many laws help us and shouldn’t be change or taken off. Then our world would be very confusing and probably cause harm to the world.

  8. If I could abolish a law it would be the legal driving age of 18. When you turn 16 you go for a permit. Than at 17 you have a provisional license which means you can only drive one other person in your car unless you are with a licensed driver. When you turn 18 you get an actual license and you can drive as many people as you desire. This law can be very annoying especially with families who have more than three children. If the parents are running late and they need their 17 year old to drive the twins to volleyball practice legally the 17 year old can’t. This causes a problem for the parents. This law is unnecessary. Usually 17 year olds are responsible and can handle driving more than one person.

I feel this law is not causing any harm to anyone. If anything it is causing a restriction on parents and teens. No 17 year old is able to drive the basketball team to practice because they could get ticketed because they are not of age. Abolishing this law and allowing 17 year olds to get an actual license will make lives easier on parents and adults. Most people do not even know that this law exists. Countless 17 year olds drive more than one person. Most of our lives would go on. Not a big change except, the 17 year olds would be allowed to drive more than one person. I suggest that the legal driving age should be 17 not 18. That would be the law that I would abolish.

  9. Laws are issued in order to protect civilians and the atmosphere around them. Many laws are necessary to ensure safety, yet some can be rather ridiculous. If given the opportunity to abolish or change a law in the federal, state, or school level, I would abolish one of the "rules" at DHS. Recently, a student was sent to the office for disobeying the dress code - she was wearing a strapless dress. The student was unaware of her misconduct and should have every right to do so because such a rule is quite absurd. This law isn't necessarily harming people, yet it is taking away a person's right to freedom of speech or expression through clothing. There is a time when a person can be chastised for inappropriate dressing, yet this student had not done anything wrong.
Two administrators that run this school are probably the ones whom wrote this dress code and also enforce it upon their students. Many can view this in a situation involving sexism, such as what can a man tell a girl what she can wear or what she can not wear? The student wearing the strapless dress was not trying to impress anyone or show herself off to others. She wore the strapless dress because it was hot in the school, and most of all, a school that doesn't even have air conditioning. So how dare these men ridicule their students on the way they dress, especially since the case wasn't serious and because of the environment the students are placed in.
Abolishing this law would allow girls to wear strapless dresses to school without being looked down upon for doing so. This would not have to stop a teacher from teaching their class and having to send a student down for such a little thing as a strapless dress. There really isn't any alternative to this rule and there really shouldn't be one for a rule so nonsensical. This rule should not even be enforced because it does not offend anyone or cause harm to any surrounding students. Abolishing this rule would not cause such a big scene over no straps on a dress.

  10. If I had the power to change any rule or law that is enforced by either the school, state, or national government, I would have to choose wisely. The rule I would choose to abolish would be part of Dunellen High School's late policy. The rule states that if a student is late four times to first period, they are to be assigned two office detentions. I believe that the consequence for being late only four times is unnecessary. As long as the student still attends school, why must there be a punishment? Being two minutes late, four times, is not a reason to be given two office detentions. A total of eight minutes are missed of class time if a student is late by two minutes, four times. However, they are punished by having to spend 60 minutes in detention.

When the numbers are represented, the consequence seems unfair to students who are only late for 20 minutes or less. After a 20 minute period of time, the student is marked as absent from each class they do not attend until they arrive to school. The students who are more than twenty minutes late are "punished" by losing credit for the day in each class they miss. If this rule were to be removed, there would be less tension between students and school officials. I do not believe that all the rules applying to being late should be removed, just that the consequences be re-evaluated.

  11. The one rule that I would choose to change is the dress code policy in our school. This rule is hurting our students and is useless and nobody takes it seriously. This rule is hurting students because during extremely hot days in our school people try to wear as little as possible, and for a good reason. A good portion of our school doesn't have air conditioning. So wearing a full t-shirt in sweltering heat is not much of an option. Most teachers understand the circumstances and can relate to us, but some still enforce the rules of: no spaghetti straps, or short shorts.

Our school would be a whole lot better without this rule because people would not have to worry about being to hot in school while learning. Also without this rule students would not be sent down to the nurse to change in the middle of an important lesson. Many state testing and other end of the year exams take place while it is hot so to miss out on preparations or the actual exam would be unacceptable. This rule should be completely removed because it isn't something that is even paid attention to anymore.

  12. Laws. They are here for the good of people not for the bad. Laws are meant to help people not cause problems. I can't say that I would change a state law, but I would change a school law. The law I would like to change is the fact that you are only allowed a certain amount of absences. Students are only allowed 18 absences. This has come to my attention because I myself are almost at risk of detention due to absences because I was sick.

Laws benefit the good, but also affect the good. Sometimes, if a person does something illegal they break the law, but the person who indicates how long they are punished for their crime aren't always fair. If a person beats someone up, but the victim doesn't die or isn't at risk of dieing, the perpetrator will get forty years in jail rather than twenty- five. Many times this happens. Overall, laws help the community but can also hurt it.

  13. Laws and rules have been put in place to keep people safe in the environment they are in. Most of these rules have been set in place because of previous failures when these activities or other things have occurred; therefore, now that these restrictions are put into place, it prevents other people from going through this. Furthermore, there are rules and laws almost everywhere in your life, including school. Being a learning environment, there needs to be restrictions considering not many students exactly love the school environment and all the work that comes with it. To ensure that students are maintaining a good, consistent working environment they have specific rules. These rules aren’t necessarily liked by students; however, they have improved the learning environment overall.
In addition, although rules and laws enforced usually have a positive effect on society, I believe one rule here at Dunellen High School should not be enforced. At Dunellen High School phones, computers, tablets, etc. As a student and well aware of the abilities of this type of technology, I have a pure understanding as to why these devices are banned from the school environment; but, with this understanding I also know how useful they can be. With advancing technology it is only right that we learn how to use it in the school environment as well as the real world. Allowing these devices, of course with their restrictions to prevent their downfalls, would help advance the learning process even making them more effective.

  14. There are a handful of laws that are disliked by several people in our community. Either they simply disagree with the law, or have a way of improving it. I personally would like to change the gun laws of New Jersey. If I had the ability to do so, I would try to make it stricter than it already is. Personally, allowing an average human being to own a gun is outrageous. In New Jersey, the main requirement is to have a permit that states that a specific person is able to own a weapon like this. I would change the law by allowing only the people that absolutely need protection to own a gun. An example of a person that would fit the requirements of this law is a state police officer. Without changing this law, the lives of a great amount of people in our community would be at risk.

Although this law is very difficult to change, our state and country should never give up on it. It would save tons of lives around our local areas. With this in mind, we would be better off with a stricter version of this law in comparison to not having it exist at all. A substitution for this law could be to not have guns sold to average human beings. This would then only give police officers and others that help with protection the opportunity to own these armed forces. Everyone’s life is worth living and it shouldn’t be ended by one simple gunshot.

  15. Honestly, I'm not sure there are any school rules that I would completely disagree with, but there could be some minor changes to them. Cell phones as such, promote an unhealthy learning environment for not only the person using it, but the other peers around him/her. Cell phones are a huge distraction in class and can often times create a disturbance in the classroom, which in fact, is also another offense in the student hand book. A cell phone is a necessary to have at all times and from past experience, not being able to have one on hand when it was most critical, was really something difficult that I had to overcome. Teacher's reasoning’s for not having a cell phone in class is for what I just listed, but anything can happen.

Although having a cell phone at hand at all times in school, should at some aspect be allowed, there are a few things that teachers disagree with in terms of cell phone usage in school that I agree with. If you're not using it in case of an emergency, then I think the cell phone should be allowed on your person, but tucked in your pocket. Texting and social networking become a huge problem. During class kids are tempted to participate in messaging back and forth to each other when obviously, the class is trying to learn. You can't make a person want to learn, but it's their own fault if they don't try. Cell phone usage in my opinion should only be used in case of an emergency at school. In other cases, I do believe it is completely acceptable to have it on your person.

  16. In Dunellen High School, there are many rules that we must follow. Some are very obvious that we must follow because they may cause harm to others, but some rules aren’t necessary. Although rules are the backbone of any civilized nation, some rules here at Dunellen High School seem to be that they wouldn’t bother anybody if not a rule. For instance one rule our school has is that no students are allowed to bring in cellphones, iPods, and other music devices and listen to music while in school. Although many students do it already students are still getting in trouble for doing it and in my opinion it is harming no one. Teenagers all over love the music they listen to and if the students do their work in class there is no harm in allowing students to listen to music while they work. Listening to music while working can improve your overall effort and mind creativity you can put into something. Therefore, not allowing students to listen to music in school is a rule I feel should be abolished from Dunellen High School.

Allowing Students to listen to music while in school may have positive effects in the work they put out, because it is scientifically proven in many cases that listening to certain types of music can stimulate certain parts of your brain, allowing us to think see and feel different ways about certain things. With that in mind it may have a positive effect on the school body’s work ethic. It can have a positive effect on the school and on the students being allowed to do something they love.

  17. Most laws made for all of us students/students are helpful and logical, but there are a few that I disagree with. One in Dunellen High School that I would want to change is the cell phone policy. Unless the phone is being used during class and becoming a distraction to others, I do not think the rule on them should be so harsh. With some teachers, if the phone falls out of someone’s pocket they threaten to take it away if it happens again. This simple mistake cannot be helped, so threatening to take it away is way too drastic.
Plus, if a student is choosing to not pay attention during class, that is his or her fault. This will only hurt them, not anybody else. If a student wants to use their phone I believe they should be able to, as long as it is not used as a distraction or disrespectful way. Some teachers end up taking away students phones for the rest of the day, but considering that it is the student’s property I do not agree with this at all. Using their phone and not paying attention will only affect their own grade, not others. This is why the phone rule in Dunellen High School should be ended, or at least not so harsh.

  18. A rule/law I would change would be the law that separates education and religion. The main thing I do not appreciate about the separation is that I am not really able to learn about other people’s beliefs in a public school because it is somewhat looked down upon. I feel that it is unfair that a teacher cannot stand in front of his or her class and seriously describe personal beliefs. It is understandable that some people may take offense or not agree with their views, but in all honesty it is more a way to learn about other religions. For instance, the U.S. Constitution also allows for religious freedom, allowing people to practice whatever faith they want without fear of persecution. Some view the limiting of religion in schools as a breach of this rule.

Changing this rule would benefit schools and a educational way. One of the key arguments in allowing the teaching of religion in schools is that it promotes the beneficial aspects of religion, not sectarianism. Allowing children religious freedom permits them to gain a level of spiritual enlightenment, and keeps them away from the temptations of peer pressure and gangs. A poll published by the New York Times in 2001 showed a majority of Americans believed if more people were religious there would be less crime and immorality. If religion was taught in schools, people from different faiths could learn about each other, promoting harmony.

  19. The main purpose of a law/rule is to ensure the safety of the people abiding by said law/rule. Even though they are meant to benefit everyone equally, there are some rules that do not quite live up to their potential. So, if I was given the opportunity to change a rule of my choice, I would change a rule that we have in school. The rule that I would change would be the rule that only juniors and seniors are allowed to have a period of study hall. I feel that this rule is completely unfair to all underclassmen that attend Dunellen High School. The rule does not benefit everyone that follows it, and for this reason I would change the said rule.

Now, only Junior and Senior students at Dunellen High School are allowed to have a study hall. If I was able to change this rule, I would change up the current necessary requirements. For one, I would make study hall open to all classes. However, they would either have to be participating in an athletic team, or in honors courses. Students in these fields are very occupied by the commitments of either being on a team, or excelling in the classroom. Usually honors classes come with challenging, time consuming material. If an honors student, or an athlete had an extra forty minutes to do homework from the previous night, or study for an upcoming class in school, they would definitely use their time wisely. With more commitment, comes less time to focus on important school work. These changes would only benefit students at our school. By receiving a study hall, the underclassmen in our school would have more time to balance their school work. After all, juniors and seniors are not the only students involved in difficult courses/extracurricular activities. Some of the upperclassmen have two study halls in one day. If they can have two study halls, then the underclassmen that are working hard deserve to have at least one. For those reasons, if I was given the opportunity, I would change that rule in our school.

  20. In today’s society, there are so many debatable laws and rules, including here at Dunellen High School. If I was an administrator and I had the ability to change a rule at my school, it would be the rule of no hats in school. Even though I see where the school is coming from; how hats can be distracting and cause disturbances, to me this rule is ridiculous. If the school really thinks hats are that distracting, they should just put in a warning system, rather than having the students never being allowed to wear a hat.

There are many instances where this change in a rule at DHS would please the students more. For instance, for guys mostly, a hat is considered a fashionable accessory and can be comfortable for them. Now, I agree that if the student or class is being disturbed by the hat, the student should have to take it off. However, if the student is being non-disruptive and peaceful with the hat on, then they should have the privilege to wear it in school if they want. In addition, if the student with the hat is beginning to be distraction, they should get a simple warning, and after that they will get it confiscated. However, until the student is disruptive or inappropriate with the hat, they should have the right to wear it in school. With this rule change, many students would be happier and more comfortable in school, and less annoyed about the ridiculous rule that applies today at Dunellen High School.

  21. Laws and regulations are not put in place for no reason at all but, often for a few reasons. Mainly to ensure safety, but also for health or unnecessary disruptions. However, some laws seem to be taken to the very extreme and just fill up space on documents rather than make much of the impact they are intended for. More on the general note, a rule at Dunellen High School states that on the third offense of a staff member confiscating a cellphone or any electronic device, a Disorderly Person's charge will be filed with the police and the device will be kept for the remainder of the school year. This repercussion includes one day of After Hour Suspension as well, all for the criminal action of using a cellphone or any other electronic device within the school. Not only does this come across as an over protective measure, but also an invasion of personal property. Although the school does control many aspects' of a student's life, there is a thin line and confiscating a device for an entire year is a large step over it. This law could cause a Disorderly Person's charge to appear on one's personal public record and the confiscated item may have to be paid for or replaced throughout the year.

Removing or revising this law will be beneficial for students, parents and police officers. Students will still consider the penalties in a serious manner without the hassle of losing a clean record and even giving up a new electronic device. Parents of the students' would still be able to stay in touch and not have to pay for a replacement phone or iPod. Police officers would be able to get out of unnecessary paper work for a violation so miniscule. It is a rule that is excessive and is not effective in Dunellen High School. A compromise for this rule could be that the guardians of the student could take the matters into their own hands. As for the school's intentions, they could take away credits or offer more After Hour Suspensions. If the student's use became extreme, other actions such as Out of School Suspension could be considered. Abolishing this law would be a great decision because it doesn't benefit students, parents or officials in any way.

  22. I very understand the reasons for laws and rules. Mainly people say it is for our protection and safety but at the same time some are not always as beneficial as some people make them out to be. One rule I would change in Dunellen High School is dress code. I respect the fact that the girls and guys cannot wear something so outrageously inappropriate but it also has come to my attention that towards the spring or summer time it can become extremely hot in our school. Unfortunately we happen to be one of the schools that cannot afford air condition, so there should be more leniency to what we wear.

in our school we are not allowed to wear anything strapless. Many students though have worn strapless summer flowing dresses that happen to come across very appropriate for school time. On the third floor, it tends to get really hot because you can not even open up the windows all the way for safety pro cautions. I feel as if we can wear things that may be strapless or have a shorter length and still be very appropriate for school timing. All in all, teachers and the head of the school say they want us to be comfortable but that can not happen as we are sweating all day for wearing clothing that is unnecessary for the temperature. This is one school rule i would like to change in Dunellen High School

  23. If I could change one law in the school ill chose the law of not chew gum in school. In my opinion that law is ridiculous for several reasons one is that it can make students focus more in the lesson and not make them get distracted, also the gun would make them not fall asleep in class because there chewing it. I'm not saying they can like make bubbles and all in middle of the class that's disrespectful. I would only allow students to just chew like normal people.

This would help the students and teachers. Som teachers want to chew gum too, and it can keep them awake or concentrated. Students would pay more attention to test when they take them and ready the questions and answer them with all there capacity. Students also would agree with me that's this is a rule that should of never been a rule, a lot of people love to chew gum and I think it would help students. So if I could change a rule that would be the rule I would change.

  24. The rule that I would change is the after hour’s detention. I would take this option out because it’s a waste of time for both students and teachers. Also after hours is a waste of money. The school could be saving more money to fix minor things around the school at least. Also this is the only school that has that system put into it. (After hours) no other school has it their saving money and making their school better. It harms students because if students have jobs then they have to miss work. That also means no money for bills. And everybody has to work to survive.
It would be better if we just had Saturday detentions, it would be more punishable because that’s a whole morning lost. I think if we take this rule out the school would be happier and most people would get regular detention. They should change it to in school suspension. I think that makes more sense.

  25. Many rules in the government and in DHS are absurd. One rule I find ridiculous is that a club can’t be a club because the administration does not support it and there are “not enough participants”. I have been a member of the DHS marching band since 7th grade, but last year we only had about 20 people sign up, though every year, we have about 25-30 people total. We were forced to become a pep band and not march and compete like we usually do. In my first year, we had about 25 people and we broke our school record at a competition. We put in just the same amount of time and dedication that other sports put in, sometimes more.

A few weeks ago, one of the members tried to get the band back into the budget. She first brought it up to a high-up staff member and (s)he said no and that (s)he does not support the band as much as other activities and sports. She got a list together of about 30 people willing to join in DHS alone. The issue was never brought up again as far as I know. Many people in this school believe that music is not important. For example, one teacher who shall remain nameless, is in love with music but has mentioned that (s)he would remove the school music programs in order to “help” the school. The program means a lot to students and the number or participants (which Is a legal number to participate) should not affect if the club is in existence. All in all, a club should not be shut down/taken away because the minimum amount of students join and some staff members do not agree.

  26. In todays world our society is based on rules and things people shouldnt do. Some rules make sense and some are just plain out stupid. The reason for some of the rules is so that we could keep the world in orrder even if most people don't necessarily agree with them. There are rules just about everywhere and in everything you do, like sports, work, driving, your home, school and just youaverage laws. These laws kepp us safe but many people break at least one rule every day and doesnt care about it. The motto for some people is rules are meant to be broken.

In school one big rule i would change is students have to take a foreign language. foreign languages should not be mandatory if the child doesnt want to take it. In elementrary school and middle school it is a good idea so kids can learn the basics of hearing different langauges. In high school the students should be able to choose what types of classes they would like to take, since high school is preparing you for real life. In high school is when you decide what you wanna do when you get older or go to college for. If us students take the same calsses every single year with just more work its not really preparing us for anything. High school should just be hours of doing different career choices for free and seeing what you like and what interest you. I know this is what college is for but some kids are not able to go to college because of money issues or their GPA is too low from classes that they werent interested in or not gonna help them in life.

  27. The United States has many rules that people should follow to be safe and stay out of trouble. Not only is there rules for the country but there is also a rule for every house hold and building. If i had to change arule in the school, it would be that you can wear hats in school. I want to change this rule because it's fun wearing hats and it could help students.

HATS ARE FUN TO WEAR. They can show your PERSONALITIY. It shows whats your favorite team is and what colors you like. It also can match with clothing you wear.

It can also help students. Sometimes students get bad hair cuts or may have messy hair that day. So if they were allowed to wear a hat, they'll know that no one can see or make fun of there hair. Hats can also help kids in the way they act. Kids can act differently because the hat is covering there face so no one can see them. It can improve there self-isteem.

  28. I believe that rules are there for a reason. They are there to protect us and to keep us from getting hurt. Even some rules are not as really helpful as others, they really help people. I also believe that there are some rules that don't even need to be there. Types of rules that are not important as others, or people don't pay much attention to them.
One rule that I would choose to change is the rule where students are not able to chew gum. This rule is for schools mostly. Most students don’t pay a lot of attention to this rule because its not really bad or important. i believe that this rule is not even supposed to be a rule, its not going to make a difference no or ever. Teacher and students don't even bother to follow this rule because its not as important as other one.

  29. I say that the rule of school not being able to wear what you want to school so be abolish. Anyone is intitled to express themselves of everythey feel like. Constricting student from wearing, clothe with bad words or with provocitive labels or pictures should be aloud. Because in the real world no one is going to be shocked. In addition we are in high school, i understand if those rules apply to middleschoolers or elementery schoolers, because they don't understand what they have on, or it can become a distraction.
The other day i got introuble for wearing an abstract picture of a women in a bikini, it had no have, and no color, just black and white. This is ridculous due to the fact no one knew what it was untill you stare at it for at a good minute. Teachers act as if, no one has ever seen anyone in a bikini. On almost ever channel on tv, i bet there is a women on a bikini even, if its a commercial . So in conclusion I say the rule should be looked at.

  30. There are many laws in the United States that are meant to be applied to everyone. For example, inside trading in the stock market is illegal for regular people but not for congress men. They don’t want anyone to become rich nor help the economy. I would like to change that and make all inside trading stop for everyone and just make people wait for the products to come out. For example, for those people that want to get into the stock market and invest in big companies like Apple or even people that want to invest and make some money and get out. Congress men are able to do inside trading that just makes them richer and richer every day. They buy products before they come out for about 50% to 75% less than retail price. So if you do the math they make for the stores and the companies off products.

If this rule were to be changed the economy would boost up a little and disperse more money out to the people and help financial problems people face. For instants, the citizen of the United States don’t like the fact that only congress men can do inside trading and let the regular citizens just struggle to make ends meet. Changing this will not just change the percentage of money the 1% of the population holds but make the economy better and more stable. Inside trading shouldn’t be allowed on either side because only the congress men make the money and not the people. Making them richer and the poor poorer.
