Blog 10: Current Events

For this week's blog, choose one current event from a reputable news source to inform the class of an issue or news topic going on in the world. Read through articles online in sources such as The New York Times or Time Magazine; you may also find interesting articles on cnn.com, USA Today, or Psychology Today. You are open to any topic of your choice. Once you choose an article of interest to you, read it in its entirety before discussing it.

In your first paragraph, tell us who is involved or who it affects, what is happening, when the event takes place, where it is happening, how the events unfold, and why it is newsworthy. In your second paragraph, discuss the issue of the news article in relation to students and society. What are its future implications? What is the larger impact of the event/topic and what can people learn or do with it?

Post a link to the news article after your response so we can read the article itself. Then, each student must read one other article from any blog post by following the link and respond to that student’s post--building upon it, disagreeing with it, or re-thinking it.

Also, no two people are allowed to post on the same current event for their original post.

  2. http://techland.time.com/2012/12/07/major-wireless-carriers-to-implement-911-texting-by-may-2014/

According to the Federal Communications Commission, by May 2014, four of the nations biggest wireless carriers have agreed to make 911 texts available. The FCC decided that being able to send text messages to 911 is a great way to get help if voice calling is not a safe option. This past Thursday, the agency said the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile were all under agreement about 911 texts. They believe that about 90 percent of cellphone users in the U.S. will be able to access emergency services by sending a text message to 911. Being able to send texts to 911 will not only protect someone from getting into more danger but also help with those who are disabled and unable to make a voice call. The FCC still stresses that one should always try to make a voice call if possible. This topic is definitely news worthy since we are probably going to be able to not only call, but also text the police for help when needed. This could help lower crimes since one doesn’t have to actually speak to get help and possibly put them in more harm.

When I first noticed this article, I thought being able to send a text to 911 was just ridiculous. Everyone should just call the police so they can get instant help. However, I began to think about how being able to send a text message to police help could actually be beneficial for society. Like mentioned in the article, sometimes calling 911 is not the safest option and in some cases, it could actually put someone in more danger. This is when texting 911 would become a necessity. I believe this help lower crime rates and not put so many people in danger. Having both the option of calling and texting the police will definitely help our society. The FCC is making an effort to keep us safe from harm

    1. This situation should be taken into consideration by all phone companies because of how they could save a life. With the capability of sending a text message to the police, several adults and even children could stay out of danger. This change in our contact with the police would be extremely benefitial. Therefore, I agree with your opinion.

    2. I think this is a very interesting topic, and I agree with you. I think being able to text the police can be safer and easier for any people in trouble. I also agree that it would lower the crime rates, since it would make it easier for the criminals to be caught. I think you did a great job on this post.

    3. This article will be very helpful for people in t danger. i strongly agree with you because there can always be the possibility of not being able to call 911 or it may alert the criminal and put whoever is in need in more danger.

    4. Great article, Bianca. I never knew this article existed, yet I've been believing in 911 texts for a long time, as the article does. Who knows if it's a prank text, but those pranks will be easily recognized. It is very efficient to keep people away from harm. A kidnapper can obviouslly hear someone talking on the phone, but texts are silent. Your opinions make a lot of sense and your statements are 100% true. Almost every American has a cell phone with texting, even 2nd graders. Everyone can have the chance to text for help. Great thinking, overall, I agree with you opinion. Thanks for sharing the article!

  5. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/10/health/a-breakthrough-against-leukemia-using-altered-t-cells.html?ref=science

Only one year ago in the spring, Emma Whitehead was close to death because of her leukemia. Today though, she is living the life of an normal 7-year old. But it was not easy for her to get to this place in her life. Her parents found a treatment that was supposed to help her out, but it ended u bringing her closer to death. Emma was one of the first people to ever use this experiment, which was supposed to help her immune system to fight the cancer. Seeing the results, scientists, doctors, and even several adults who had cancer themselves, began working together to help find a treatment to help stop cancer. They found a process of producing T-cells, which they then put into the patient’s body. It is not far enough into the development to be able to tell whether or not there will be any major side effects, but for now Emma Whitehead is living a regular life because of it.

If this process developed can be proved 100% reliable, so many lives will be saved. It is estimated that 1,500 people die per day from cancer, according to Cancer Facts article. But if the T-cells injection could help and save all these people, it would be a miracle. Although for the people who have cancer and not much money, this process will not be easy for them. Making the T-cells alone costs $20,000 for each patient. Scientists are hoping that this discovery will help them develop a completely safe way to stop cancer, but for now this is as close as they can get.

  6. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/12/04/why-did-jovan-belcher-commit-murder-suicide/

The current event I chose was on former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, Joven Beltcher. Beltcher on Saturady December 1st killed his girlfriend and later committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager. This is an important new event to know because of the fact on why the linebacker would want to murder his girlfriend and then commit suicide upon himself. This brings a lot of attention to the National Football League on how playing professional football can mentally effect a player. However, this was not the first issue Beltcher has had happened to him regarding women. Beltcher has been known back in college to have some incidents involving females by having a domestic violence and also the destruction of a dorm window.
This incident has a great affect on society regarding gun control. Many people are stating that if Beltcher did not have a firearm then he would have never committed suicide and murder his girlfriend. From this event it has the chance to spark many new things. This now has the possibility of making guns illegal to own in this country. This matter brings up a very detailed debate on why or why not guns should be legal in this country just from this incident.

  8. This article is about the topic of the end of the world in 10 days. According to the Mayan calendar, the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. Do I believe in it? No. I believe that we will wake up on December 22, and everything will be the same. This would concern every person on the face of this earth if this was to occur. The world would come to a complete end if the Mayans were correct. This is newsworthy because if it is true, this would be one of the worst natural disasters ever to hit the earth.
In society, some people are preparing for the worst. It would be nice to prepare, just in case. However, I won’t be going to stores and stocking up on a lot of food. I don’t really believe it will happen, but I would be sorry if I was wrong. Then I would probably die. It could impact the people who did prepare in a positive way, believe it or not. It says in the article that for those who survive, it will “represent the storm before the calm, and will dramatically and violently usher in a new era of increased understanding and renewed enlightenment. This new beginning will be met with a new sense of peace and will more widely open our eyes to the true meaning of life.”

  9. On Saturday December 8th, 2012 Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, 28, of Monroeville, Pennsylvania died in a daring mission in effort to save Dr. Dilip Joseph who was being held captive by Afghan smugglers in Afghanistan. Nicolas Checque belonged to an "East Coast-based Special Warfare Unit,” he was also thought to be a member of the Navy's Special Warfare Development Group, also known as known as SEAL Team Six. This group of elite members are specially skilled in all things needed to survive when in danger and when they need to take things into their own hands in life or death situations. The will of Nicolas allowed him to risk his life for the life of a single man and maybe even more lives. By Nicolas risking his life just to do the right thing for his country means that we will mourn his death due to his bravery and his strong mined being.

This article relates to our nation as a whole. It doesn’t just relate to our nations armed forces but also our nation’s community and all of the people that live in this country. We always hear about someone risking their life just to save another, and the majority looks past it because we hear it all the time on the news, especially young children. Although, our nations people need to understand the true meaning of what happened and how this man was a true brave American hero, this event needs to make people think how many people risk their lives just for their country.

Doctors have been trying to catch patients and help them before they end up in a coma in the emergency room. How is this possible? Special iPhones and iPads have been helping them keep up with the patients. Once funds reach an amount that can provide for this program in hospitals, the research shall begin. They will give patients an iPhone and track them with a GPS. They plan to keep patients under watch at extreme times. This is newsworthy because if someone has a friend with depression or a serious problem or injury, then unusual behavior or points can help detect problems before it becomes serious.

This related to students and society because it tells people options that they may need to know of. Some students have had their best friend commit suicide and be depressed. Had they the iPhone given to them by doctors, they could’ve avoided it. It’s future plans are to save people and help society. If someone has epilepsy, they may not have help in time. If they are in a tunnel for ten minutes with no movement, they may need help. If someone is in an unusual spot, they can help. A larger topic of the event that people can do with it is to save before a bad time. Suicide is a big deal right now, including the loads of bullying and problems that people have at home. Doctors can help with this before its too late. People are not being reached in time, and this program is hopefully going to stop all the self attacks. Heart attacks are also common. Doctors can detect suspicious behavior before an attack. Overall, the device should be helpful and aware of dangerous situations.

A very recent event has affected many people along the eastern coast of the United States, including myself and my family. In fact, this event is newsworthy because of how many people it affects. The event I will be discussing is the Hurricane Sandy demolishment of the Jersey Shore coastline. Many groups of people have been affected by this event; from home and business owners, to even occasional beach-goers, that the number of people affected from this storm has reached hundreds of thousands of victims. Hurricane Sandy hit New York and New Jersey on Monday, October 29, 2012. The largest impact of this super-storm was o the jersey shore coastlines, like Seaside Heights and Ortley Beach. This event was newsworthy, not only because of it’s massive amount of victims, but also because of it’s extreme damage and destruction to homes, businesses and even people.

This storm affected many students and the society both recently and in the future. It affected the students now, since it kept them from going to school for two weeks, as well as even destroyed some schools and their property. Hurricane Sandy also affected students and society by destroying businesses and universities beyond repair, keeping future students and customers from contributing to the society and economy. Again, some future implications include less availability in education, decrease in economy, and even homelessness, since Sandy destroyed many homes. In addition, there were some larger impacts due to the wrath of Hurricane Sandy. The major one is a huge decrease in economy. A huge part of New Jersey’s economy came from the Jersey Shore beaches, since they were a “gold mine.” We have learned many new tactics that can help us to avoid these harsh impacts that may occur in the next Jersey shore hurricane. For instance, we can be better prepared by elevating homes, and especially avoid human deaths and injuries by obeying the government’s orders of evacuations. All in all, Hurricane Sandy deeply affected the New Jersey coastline and many people, even slightly involved with it.

Its believe that there were no survivors in the crash. The plane had six people in there including the Pilot. They believed that all of them died in that plane crash, because everything was destroy and there were no sign of survivors . Authorities are still working , to find out what had caused the plane to crash. Also they are still trying to find the people in the plane, even though it's believed that no one survive . It all happened on sunday, when the plane lost contact outside Monterrey, Mexico. They were planning on going to another concert in Toluca which is near Mexico City.
This tragedy has been really bad for all the people that loved her and admire her. I don't know much about her, but i feel bad for her family and her 4 children that are going to be with no mother. She was too young to die and she was just starting a new life. She had just had a son, not that long ago. She had a family and also she wasn't the only one that died in that plane crash. After this many Mexican people , that knew her are going to remember her more than ever. This tells us that, life is really hard and when you at least expected, something can happen.

Messi has done it again he has proved why he is the best soccer player in the world! He has broke another soccer record. He has scored86 goals in a year with his national team Argentina and His club Barcelona. He broke Gerd Mullers record of 85 goals. Gerd Muller was a Germany soccer player, and played for Bayren Munich club. He had a record of 85 goals when he played. Messi still has 3 more games to play so he can add more goals to his record.

This changes the future because other players can set up goals to practice and beat that record. Also other players that are about at the same level as him such as Christiano Ronaldo can try push foward and try to beat it. This artical is really interesting because for About since 1972 no one has broke that record and now about 2 days ago messi has broke it. This just proves that he is one of the best in the world if not the best in the world.

  14. In a recent analysis done by Emily Sohn and other psychologists, a recent study has proven that the percentage of cheaters continues to rise. Ranging from texts to relationships, people are becoming savvier and come up with new and improved way to get around the typical “testing”. In recent studies, it has been proven that people tend to judge other people more harshly than their own actions. The recent study continues to become more evident in our society considering now ever teachers taking tests to teach children the exact opposite of what they have been doing themselves; cheating.
As students, the action of cheating unfortunately is becoming less and less of something out of the ordinary. When a person cheats, whether it is on homework, tests, quizzes, or even relationships, the action is still taking place. You begin to wonder how much around you is really the truth. You begin to doubt teachers, peers, and people you have looked up to for years. And as the studies continue and the results become more shocking, or not in some cases, the act will become more and more common. Soon it will be nothing out of the ordinary for this occurrence or peoples own individual intelligence and commitment will no longer even be tested.

  15. In March of 2011 numerous Syrians take up the streets of southern Dara`a, provoking their goverment. This article mainly focuses on the fact that normal everyday citizens were tired of living in fear, not being able to speak freely, to demand, to reject, to mainly... live in dignity (Syria’s Agony). These people did not hear to what the goverment was saying and for that, many were willing to risk their own lives to be able to fight for the freedom they deserve. For jouralists this is to be considered one of the most dangerous places to visit in the world. Reporters have to get on the frontlines to be able to relay information to the general public. This war brings devastion to all of Syria and to the common people that have to encounter everything that is going on around them. This article truly shows the pain and suffering one must go through to reach equal rights. Knowing the state would retalliate in violence, with aquiring more advanced weapons, it was worth every bit of hope they had left in their hearts. the main struggle today in Syria is fighting back but at the same time re cover from all that is being lost.

According to CNN, an estimate of about 30,000 people have died in Syria. This affects the united states in many ways. Firstly Amercia has always been seen as a country that stands against in justances. If this war happens to expand even more it may bring down the wealth of Syria and cause complications such as a failing goverment and so fourth. The main thing people should get out of this, is to be more grateful that we live in a country that is not forceful or overpowering on us like Syria. That we have one less problem to deal with because we have that freedom unlike many other countries. We do not as a county, a whole, have to face the struggles that Syria has to go through. I believe that is the main thing people would get out of after reading about what is going on today in Syria.

  16. http://healthland.time.com/2012/12/04/study-details-how-brain-injury-from-concussions-progresses/

Concussions have always been major problems when it comes to the sports world. Especially aggressive contact sports like football and hockey. However, Dr. Ann McKee has come up with a new breakthrough in this field. She, along with students at Boston University, have come up with reasons behind why concussions are so dramatic. They discovered a certain type of protein called, “tau.” This tau builds up in the brains of affected areas of the brain. It builds up in the different lesions and valleys of the brain. They also discovered that the tau settles around blood vessels, causing them to get damaged as well. This new knowledge of brain activity during the trauma of a concussion can help end a lot of diseases doctors believe concussions are linked to.

Most people do not know that scientists/neurologists are now linking concussions and Alzheimer’s together. The tau build up and swollen blood vessels clog the brain. This clogging stops the memory in the brain, thus leading to Alzheimer’s. Depending on how severe the concussion was and how often they occurred will determine the severity of the Alzheimer’s. If scientists/neurologists can spot the tau right when it appears in the brain after trauma and remove it, they can potentially stop other diseases from branching off of it. It is nearly impossible to stop athletes from playing aggressively; however, new designs of helmets and revised rules are being developed to help prevent concussions. With time and development in technology, medicine will be developed in order to help stop the severe side effects that come with receiving a concussion.

This article focuses on a six year old boy named Jayden David. He suffers from excruciating seizures that can become fatal later in his life. The reason for this is that he suffers from Dravet’s syndrome. Dravet’s syndrome, in short, is epilepsy but in children. Jayden lived his life with the possibility of having a seizure at any time due to the fact that the 22 pills he was prescribed weren't as effective as they should be. The newsworthy portion of this article is how his father found a solution to end his son’s pain: medical marijuana. In most states it is unheard of for a parent to give their child medical marijuana, especially at a young age, however it solves the problem FDA approved drugs could not.

When I first noticed the title of this article, I’ll admit that I judged the person who would give their six year old medical marijuana. To most people in society, it seems absurd to even consider. However, as I read the suffering Jayden went through every day, I began to grasp why his father would try medical marijuana. This option of treatment has yet to be fully researched. Although it may cure Jayden’s seizures now, the future of his condition is unknown. This article can bring more awareness to the need for more research and trials to be conducted concerning the use of medical marijuana.

Some may say this has taken precautions too far. Others might argue, this will have and indefinite impact. Access2Communications Inc. is a company that has recently created an application called TextBuster. This application prevents texts messages to be received, sent, or notifications to be sent to the phone while the car is in motion. Once the car engine is turned off, the data and messages will all be available on the phone. This application works with a piece of hardware, that is to be placed on the dashboard or somewhere within the vehicle. This application is very popular with parents, and managers or bosses or corporations. Truck drivers, or even teenagers who may have just received their permit would be disabled from using their phone while on the road. Fairly new, the TextBuster software is just making it's premiere. The creators of this application are sure that it will soon be implemented in many young adult's lives. The app also is password protected by the person who may be monitoring it; this way no one has the ability to simply remove the app. Teenagers and employees on the road should look out for possible future reforms. This article is important for everyone to be notified about. Is this a step too far? Less personal freedom is being taken away. Is this app severely effective? It will save lives annually.

Society has slowly began to adapt saved data, network controlling and censorship. Many people accept these soon to beomce "Big Brother" routines because they are ignorant to the behind the scenes work. Some people do not seem to mind the limitation of freedom. For the future, no one knows if when we give our bosses and outside sources the power to make decisions that could affect our lives, that they might just run with that inch and take a mile. As a student, I am sure many controlling machines will appear in the future. I am worried that privacy has just become a word. If I was currently an employee or a college student I would be concerned that this new technology could be practiced in class rooms. Data and cellular services may be turned off in places such as restaurants, business buildings or even schools for the purpose of teachers and students. This tiny application could take off or stay in one place. Hopefully, it doesn't get too far.

  20. It has been proven that salt is one of the main causes of obesity. Just recently pediatrics had discovered that salt leads to people having more of a sugar intake. Therefore, people would have more than one serving of sugar and salt per day. Because of this, the chance of becoming obese increases by 26 percent each day. It would then be more likely for children to become overweight in comparison to adults. Due to the fact that this is happening all throughout the world, this is definitely newsworthy. If people are not informed about this, more children would be living an unhealthy and dangerous life.

Without people being informed about this, they could be taking in more unhealthy foods that lead to this disorder. The society would then be filled with people overweight and unhealthy as a result to this. In the future, it is thought by many scientists that ton of people would slowly gain more and more weight and wouldn’t even know about it. In order for everyone to learn not to eat this much of the same foods/ seasonings is not healthy. People should be warned. If people do not take this into consideration, they can become that person who starts to join in with the crowd of unhealthy people on their way. Learning how other people suffer these issues could help teach others about the difficulties of people with hard lives.

  21. The article I chose talks about a fund created by Clinton and Bush that was said to help and raise money for Haiti during the hard times after the big earthquake in 2010. The devastation ,as we all know, has been happening for almost 3 years in Haiti and at the beginning of those years President Obama needed someone to help him lead this foundation. One of the problems with this is that in a short amount this foundation will come to an end it was meant to be an ongoing operation but with raising $54.4 mil and having that money gone they will decide to put an end to it. It was initially put out for immediate relief and then for long-term reconstruction projects that sought to create jobs, but instead the money was used to create jobs and train people. This article is important because as we all know Haiti is still not in good shape and they could use help.

These news can earthier have a good or bad impact. One of the good impacts could be that now there's just one problem that is being targeted in Haiti but there's many more bad impacts such as the coming to an end of this foundation means that the poor country will be having less help. One that problem found in the article is that, observers wonder why Haiti needed another international agency to focus on developing private businesses instead of on brick-and-mortar reconstruction or agricultural projects. I can agree with that view because instead of focusing on things like that, which can be done later, why not just help rebuild or target hunger? Overall, I think anyone can help with this problem whether you're poor, rich, young, old, etc. Many things such as donating, helping out, or getting involved with organizations that are still on their feet like UNICEF.

An article on CNN news said on Monday the U.S. Defense Department on Monday identified the SEAL killed during a successful raid to free a captive doctor, that help provide medical care, in Afghanistan. He was only 28 years old when he died. His name was Nicolas D. Checque and was from Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He belonged to the “ East Coast-based Special Warfare Unit,” and a man said that he was a member of the Navy’s Special Warfare Development Group, or known as SEAL Team Six. Nicolas died on Saturday during a fire to save the doctor. In the article it said that the doctor was kidnapped by armed men and taken way 50 miles from that pakistan area. The SEAL Team Six, same troop that was in the Osama Bin Laden raid, went to save the doctor because he was in a situation of injury or death. The SEAL team went and saved him and Nicolas took his place.
This article caught my attention because when I read this article I felt sad and amazed for what this trooper did. As I read this it reminded me of a friend. His father used to be in the military but he got out for reasons. But when I read this it made me think of what if that was his dad. It would have hurt me and especially his family. But most importantly I would think that he’s a hero because he gave up his life for people. The military and the SEAL Team Six help us and keep us safe from any danger. We should thank our troopers and be grateful we have them to protect us. Without them we would be in serious danger.

This article is about the pope creating his own twitter account so that he can spread the word talking about faith and morals through twitter. The pope has over 900,000 followers in different languages already and has many responded to his first tweet. While others support it and think it’s a great idea other people or type of media think it’s ridiculous that a 85 ear old has a twitter. Everyone around the world is going to have another way in reaching religious views and probably having their own religious questions answered. Whether their messages are clear, caring or bold, religious leaders increasingly have turned to Twitter, which they use the communication tool in various of ways.

In my opinion the fact that the the pope is making a twitter matters too many other people since not everyone is going to pay attention to the tweets or if they do they might just read them to later criticize them on what they say. It doesn't affect many since some might actually be interested in reading and learning from what the pope has to say or it could go the other way around and start arguments later in the future.

  25. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/11/mlk-memorial-quote/1761969/

This article is about the removal of a quote from one of Martin Luther Kings speeches. the quote is "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness". This speech was held in 1968 two months before his assassination. The removal would effect his family and all the people who followed him and believed everything he said was the truth. This is newsworthy because the sculpture is historical and one little speech was taken out of context so is now being removed.
The issue for about article is that the people are taking the quote out of text. Being a drum major means being a leader, he was a leader in what he believed in like peace where blacks and whites could be together or there would be no more riots. The quote that is displayed on the side of the monument is not the full quote its only a piece of what he actually said which made him sound arrogant. His family came to an agreement that they would that they are okay with the quote being removed. I think they would prefer the full quote be put up.

  26. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/11/north-korea-rocket-launch-2012_n_2280964.html

An important current event is involving North Korea. The North Korean government fired a missile into the atmosphere in attempt to successfully leave a satellite in space. The missile was fired from North Korea and flew over Japan. The mission was successful and the satellite made it to space and the missile, as planned, crashed in the ocean near the Philippines. There was a meeting between North Korea and Japan's governments after the event.

When I first read this event it was amazing. There was only one problem with the event that has taken place, North Korea is banned from operating missile and nuclear-related tests under U.N. Sanctions because of its 2006 and 2009 nuclear tests. Technically, North Korea has now conducted an illegal experiment. Doing so, their current ruler might be removed.

David Morrison, senior scientist at the NASA Astrobiology Institute, has been busy with questions about both Doomsday 2012 and the Nibiru cataclysm. Nibirsum cataclysm being the theory that the earth will collide with another, rogue planet. In all this affects the whole world, and plays a role on what each individual will believe. Because of Morrison’s theories some people take the world ending to another level. In the article he explains how he receives disturbing letters from all types of people writing about how they would end their lives due to the fear of the world ending. He said he does whatever he can to soothe their fears, but at the end of the day, people's beliefs and fears are out of his hands. This article is news worthy because the catastrophic event still has not even been proven to be true or just a hoax. In reality they say no one will ever really know until the event starts to occur.

Morrison’s several theories of a doomsday has had a wide affect on students and society. As I mentioned before, in Morrisons everyday life he get letters in the mail from people, mostly students, threaten to end their lives because their fear of the world ending. Society is affected because no one knows what to believe. Nothing has been proved about the catastrophic event and when it will be happening. The world practically ending is an outlook on how life could or could not be if the even were to occur soon. The main thing people can learn from this is to just believe in their faith and really decide whether one wants to believe that the world will end, or if the whole theory is a hoax.

  28. Boom! Knock out by Juan Manuel Marquez to Manny Pacquiao. This fight happened last week. This fight was very important to a lot of people especially the filipinen people. The filipinen people were greatly affected because Manny Pacquiao was one of them. No one likes when someone from there team loses. Also they were greatly affected because not only they suffered this loss, but they also lost 600 people in the southeren region by a typhoon. This is were Manny used to live. The filipines was very depressed because the loss in the typhoon. Then they became even more depressed because there star lost the fight.

a very important problem is going on in Syria. where president Bashar Al-Assad is fighting to stay in power. president Obama of the united states had a meeting to talk to reporter Barbara Walters in Morocco. in the interview Obama told Barbara that the united states, "wanted to use the lure of recognition to encourage the rebel leaders to flesh out their political structure and fill important posts". after all the president has recognized the problems president of Syria is facing with the rebels of Al Qaeda.

i personally like learning about these types of problem that are going on around the world. the only problem with recognizing Syria's problem is that the united states government has to approve our recognition and help to Syria. president Bashar AL-Assad. finally, although the united states is working on the recognition. Syris's president is been fighting for two year to stay in power.

A major change in parents behavior in a couple of states, because of the legalization of marijuana. in some states that marijuana is legal. for example calfornia, washington sate and many more. people think its possible that your parents smoke and drink but that doesnt mean that there child is going to smoke and drink. its possible for the parents to make them a very good child ,like making them have good decisions.

there has been many debate on this topic because its a very intreging.in my opinion i thinks thats bad.the largest and most important impact is our future generation. When us students have kids how would society be then? all screwed up or would it change the world?

  31. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-connecticut-school-shooting-victims-20121216,0,5491415.story

In this current event the people mainly of Connecticut are involved, but it also affected people nation wide. On December 14, 2012 Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and took 26 innocent lives. 12 girls, 8 boys, and 6 women were shot and killed by this man for reasons unknown. It has been released that he had autism and further mental disorders that contributed to his actions. Ten minutes into this rampage he took his own life when he heard the police coming from a distance. This is a very newsworthy event because schools should take this as a major hint and example of why they should step up the security systems with armed forces even if it is just one retired police officer per school, stronger doors, or better hiding places for children.

This is a huge moment in history and everyone including students should take advantage of this moment to think about the future and how we look at life. Students should not learn to live in fear from this event but they should learn to be prepared as much as possible for events like this because it can happen to anyone at anytime. From this hopefully people will take higher precautions and learn the actual dangers in the world, but how to prepare for them.

  32. http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/12/06/pizza-scented-perfume-for-100-lucky-pizza-hut-fans/

When you go to Macys there is an opportunity to purchase every brand of perfume. Now there is a new scent that has arrived, it’s called eau de pizza. In the fall of 2012 the fans of Pizza Hut in North America have requested they start selling a pizza smelling perfume. Beverly D’Cruz, marketing director for Pizza Hut told the Globe and Mail “making perfume scented pizza is a challenge because cheese doesn’t always smell so nice.” Finally they got a perfume working that said to smell like “top notes of freshly baked, hand-tossed dough and cheese cooking.” I feel this is newsworthy not just because it’s ridiculous, but because it displays how our world is digging deeper into the fast food hole. This country eats so much greasy food that now we are requesting a perfume of fast food, this has gone over the top. I feel everyone should be informed about the fact that the fast food industry is sending us into an obese state.

This article is an issue to our society for a couple of reasons. I feel this shows our continents stupidity because we need to have pizza flavored perfume. The article also mentions how other fast food businesses have been selling their food perfume. For example, Burger King was selling a men’s perfume of meat. If our country wants this, it proves how uneducated we are. The other reason is how our country eats too much fast food. This article proves it; we love food so much that we want to wear it as a perfume. The biggest impact of this event is that our country’s love and need for fast food is increasing. I feel there is no way of turning it around, we are in a downward spiral from here on out. In my honest opinion I feel people can learn from this article is that our country, our world needs to eat less fat and more healthy foods.

  33. A recent event that took place towards the end of October ,2012 was super storm Sandy. The region of the United Sates it affected was along side the east coast. The storm took over a span of about 2 days but the after math of the storm could take up to 15 years to reconstruct. Childhood vacations spots in Ner Jersey such as Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant, and Wildwood were hit the worst, since they are located near the ocean which is where most of the damage took place. Broken down telephone wires, thousands of fallen trees, houses that are being flooded, and a short supply for gas to power generators for the hundreds of thousands that lost power are just a few of Sandy's complications. In addition to damaged houses, schools were also severely damaged. I myself was out of school for about two weeks because Sandy had knocked out the entire town's electricity source. I was fortunet enough to only go that long. For some, it was about a month. It has been estimated that it will take up to as long as 15 years to restore the shore's along the eastern coastline.

Although the storm had hit the east coast about 2 and a half months ago, there is still much damage left to repair on the east coast shore lines. Every day groups of workers go in on 6 hour shifts to help repair seaside boardwalks, in addition to the water damaged basements and debris floating in the water.

Recently, a gun control law was issued from the US senate. There reasoning is completely understandable, considering the recent shootings in Connecticut. People are very scared for there safety because there are other people with guns. Gun control should be active I believe. But not completely remove the second amendment. Assault rifles and assault weapons alike are all a little much. Target shooting and hunting does not require such weaponry. I do not believe in completely taking away the weapons from the people. Who's to say that the government may not overrun the people? Or order a dictatorship. If they removed the second amendment, then how would we over take the deranged government? That is the entire purpose of having a second amendment. In conclusion, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good

  35. Cristiano Ronaldo has made history throughout the world! He has broken the record if scoring three. goals in a matter of 10minutes toward the end of the game. That is his 19th hat trick which neverbeen done before. This happen during the game of Real Madrid vs Getafe 4-0 being the score. In Spain. The event happen , when C.Ronaldo scores his first goal in the 62, minute mark by a break away and a shot with his left foot. In the 65 minute mark a header , only three minutes away from the first. The last goal completing the hat trick , was a knuckball right foot shot. blasted into the goal.
This changes the history of soccer forever because this will help other players in a close skill level as ronaldo , like messi to beat his record. This can help students know you can each any goal, by believeing and working hard. In the future he will be remember because I bet there will be someone or even himtrying to break his recored. People can learn to finally respect Cristiano Roanldo.
