Blog 9: Propaganda

DUE Monday November 18, 2013
According to Wikipedia, propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes. Generally, propaganda is distributed in the form of cartoons, posters or visuals - and often has a political slant (but not always). During WWII, many cartoons depicted the Germans as evil and inhumane in order to paint the enemy as monsters.

For the blog response, select a piece of propaganda on a subject of your choice. Paste a link to the piece in your response for reference (since you can't post the actual picture). Explain how the piece is trying to use persuasion to convince the audience or the viewer. What emotions is it using? What language? Look at the image and explain how it relates to the message. Explain if the technique used is effective? or offensive? Sometimes propaganda is inflammatory on purpose, to cause anger so that people will discuss the subject. Are the images used recognizable - often propaganda references visuals that people are familiar with or they spoof previous propaganda (see the "We Can Do It" ones below). Think about the way the piece is trying to engage the audience: could the author have done things differently to get the point across.

Below (and above) are some examples of propaganda. You are welcome to choose one of them if you cannot find your own (just let us know which you are writing about). As always, the response should be 2 paragraphs.

The piece that I have chosen for my propaganda is trying to use persuasion to convince the audience that the weak (being any type of living thing) is the enemy’s prey. The enemy see’s the weak as vulnerable and ready to give up giving the enemy the edge of victory in this case. Emotions that this propaganda is using are confidence and being the weak one can sometimes be unpredictable on an enemy. Language used is of course English, which is one of the most common languages around the world. The image relates to the message by saying if we do nothing we will get eaten in other words defeated. For example, the enemy is the antagonist and the hero can be the protagonist in this case scenario the weak being the hero can stand up to the enemy if you take caution and sometimes risks if necessary.
The technique used In this image is effective because it’s true that to others we’re just prey to others and those people know that us being the prey never back down from a challenge whether it be difficult or not. People will not just stand there and let the enemy bother them you have to have self-confidence in yourself. People have to stand up for themselves and take matter into their own hands. Never let the enemies dethrone you because for us people we carry determination and pride to advance in life and pick ourselves back up from the ground. It is why this piece is effective in telling us that the enemy seems nothing but a pure fantasy to us.

  2. Propagandas are persuasive works of art. They are usually used to try to convince people to do things with various techniques. The one I chose is one that is trying to convince people that their voice is the only one they should follow and not others. This is being explained because bats are blind and they use their voice to guide them to where they want to go. The emotion being used I feel is confidence because it is trying to say that your voice is what guides your choice. This picture has strong language because it is asking the reader if you are your own leader or if you take orders from others.

I believe that the technique this person used is very effective. This is because i feel that that the message is getting through. Although some people can take it offensively because it is calling them weak, that if they do not listen to their own choices they are taking orders from others. I believe that this author did the propaganda to the best of his abilities because i got it right away.

The picture on the blog at the top left is using persuasion that is showing that everything that men can do women can do too. This was around when there were hardly any able men around since it was WWII. This also persuaded women to help with the manufacturing for the war since women didn’t have the rights to work at what men work. The picture shows a girl called Rosie the Riveter; this was made by J. Howard Miller to persuade people. This was made after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and the U.S requested war goods.
Companies were forced to employ women since there weren’t any able men to work. So, women started to make all the manufacturing like cars, ships, and aircrafts. This propaganda was later used even today we use the picture. Sometimes you can see it on vending machines for other companies. During WWII people made t-shirts and tattoos out of the “we can do it” that is how much it affect the American population. Even outside of the U.S.A it affected people all over the world.

The poster I choose was a World War II recruitment poster. The poster portrays a picture of a fallen soldier dangling on a barbed wire fence. “You talk of sacrifice.. He knew the meaning of sacrifice!” this is what the poster states. This pulls at your heartstrings and makes you feel like you aren't doing enough to help serve and protect your country. The advertisement uses language that makes you feel as if you do not make sacrifices like those who serve our country. When I read the poster I found it very effective, it made me want to enroll in the armed forces and to learn the true meaning of sacrifice.
The authors purpose for creating this poster is to get people to donate money for the war effort. It reminds people of how small their sacrifices are in comparison to those of soldiers abroad. The author could have took a more direct approach in his poster, something saying to make a small donation to the US Armed Forces to aid the war effort. The author could have also been more exact on which country they were referring to in the background, japan. These things could help get the idea of the poster across better.

  5. The "We can do it" poster that has a woman showing her muscle is the propaganda I am choosing. This poster is persuading women and telling them that they can do anything and that they are strong. The emotions involved in this propaganda are confidence and lack of fear. The language that is used in that picture is body language, it's body language because the women is showing her muscle and giving off a message physically that she is a strong and proud woman. The image relates to the message because it's showing a woman who is empowered, and the message is to empower women in return, and make them feel that they can accomplish anything.
The message is most certainly not offensive, the picture shows no insults toward anyone or anything. The only people who would find this message offensive are people that think that women should not be independent and should be in the house all day without any rights. I think that the author did things perfectly. Nothing really needs to be added nor taken away. The message is clear and the point is easily recognizable to anyone.

The propaganda I chose shows a faceless man that is hit by a tomato. There is a caption on the top that says, “Disgrace”. The poster is telling people that recording movies illegally is a despicable thing to do. It uses humor with the tomato hitting the man in the face. The language used also makes people feel that recording movies is wrong. The picture and the caption work very well together to tell people not to record movie at the movie theater. I, myself, feel that recording movies is a terrible thing to do. Therefore, I support the poster all the way.
The poster is not offensive at all. The creator knew exactly what he/she was doing. It was probably made by a law official to show people that recording movies is an awful thing. While I may be starting to sound repetitive, I really do feel that this propaganda is great and shows people to not do this anymore. In my lifetime, I’ve been to restaurants where they sell the movies to people. They are pirated copies and are illegal. Yet, the management doesn’t seem to bother. It really irks me and I wish they would do something about it. But I digress, since complaining won’t solve anything. Nevertheless, there is my response.

  7. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-PropagandaFIlms-presntations-etc/

The day politics was born not only brought about power-hungry midgets suffering with the early stages of the Napoleon Complex, but a brand new form of deception: Propaganda. Propaganda, or deliberately spread rumors, ideas, information and such used to harm persons, movements, groups, nations, or documents that try to push one to join a certain movement, has been on-par age wise with the human species, along with discord, murder, deceit, deception, and… well, you get the point. Propaganda has been around a long, long time. This particular piece (http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-PropagandaFIlms-presntations-etc/) is from World War II, saying how if we keep supporting troops (i.e., keep firing) the war will end with Hitlers sorry self KIA.
Take a good, hard look at the piece. Funny, yes? It is depicting Hitler and the Nazi’s as pansies who, with a little firepower, can be destroyed. The artist uses great humor in trying to get his point ingrained within the minds of all who happen to read it.The words it uses include that of weapons and can draw in men. The picture behind it enforces the text, showing of a cartoon Hitler with his pants down. Using “Catch him with his ‘Panzers’ down” is a pun all on it’s own, but at the same time, completely literal. The idea with this is that if we keep firing and sending troops over seas to defeat the Nazi’s, we will catch his on his heals with little defence. Of course, that doesn’t exactly happen, but at the time, that plan sounded great. This particular piece does a great job in making the Axis power look bad, showing their leader in such a degrading pose, and the artist did a stellar job in depicting the enemy as weak, which is what it’s main purpose was. Though a bit offensive to the Nazi’s (Which is to be expected), some pieces of propaganda are made to offend people, to get them angry so they WILL do something. This one does not do that as much, but it is still, overall, a great example of propaganda in the world. It is truly a sneaky, shystie technique. But hey; It works.

The propaganda poster I had chosen is of a man and woman that says "Keep mum - She's not so dumb! (Careless talk costs lives)". I believe it is telling people not to say things without thinking first. The poster catches people's attention by having an old fashioned painting of a man and woman talking. By the poster saying"Keep mum- She's not so dumb!", it talks about the woman like she's an object and also insults her.
It's trying to persuade people not only to think before they speak, but to respect women. It's effective because it's warning you that what you say can get you in trouble. But overall, the point was to tell you not to disrespect women, or anyone for that manner, and it's visible to anyone who reads the poster.

Propaganda is used in today’s society for many reasons. One of them is for getting business higher, to sale, so companies can achieve success. Another reason is for creating movements, for example, the Dreamer’s movement where immigrants try to strive for equal educational opportunities for those who aren’t exactly able to do so due to their misfortune of not being able to be a citizen of the U.S. Furthermore propaganda is used for many reasons, and so in the end it can appeal to us and grab our attentions to support it.
Furthermore, the Barrack Obama poster, which shows president Obama’s face and under it reads “Progress” and the whole picture, is in blue and red. This implies that with Barrack Obama being in office, there has been much achievements, and satisfactory with Obama being in office. In addition the fact that the poster is in blue and red signifies how Obama satisfied both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party of Congress. This will then get those that who have a dislike against Obama, just because he is a Democrat, to maybe see a little of what Obama has actually done to make both the Republican and Democratic Parties happy. Even though it is tricky to be able to appeal to both sides, the poster demonstrates a sense of feeling that America is finally advancing.
All in all, propaganda’s have a unique style of being able to persuade people. If the advertisement contains famous people, such as Obama, Lionel Messi, Ariana Grande, then the product of the advertisement will be most likely to sail since it is creating a Bandwagon sense. “If she’s doing it, then will too” is what some advertisements try to imply. In the end, it all depends on the sense of feel is implied to.

The propaganda I chose is on animal cruelty. It is about how animals, such as bunnies, are being tested by companies so that the companies can see if their product is harmful or okay to put in stores. The propaganda I chose tries to create anger, sadness, and possible fear in its viewer’s/readers. Anger is created inside a person by looking at this propaganda because a person is angry at the lack of humaneness of people in society today. A person can also be angry by looking at this by seeing how animals are treated and possibly abused. This photo along with caption can stir someone’s happy emotions south as sadness dwindles inside a person as they see the animal’s results from suffering. Someone can feel fear from this propaganda because they may fear the possible outcome from further experimentations or fear for what bunnies are going through. If one is an animal activist than they should feel such emotions.
The languages of this propaganda piece along with the image are trying to stir up multiple emotions. The caption mentions how to help these wrongfully treated bunnies and puts a feeling of guilt in the reader if they were to not comply to the stated actions. The caption explains briefly why these rabbits have been treated poorly and what happens to them afterward. The author of this caption did a great job with trying to get their point across, especially since they added an appalling photo to go along. The image imitates what happens on a daily basis to rabbits and the caption explains what happens along with how to help. The title really drives the point through too; “DID THESE RABBITS DESERVE THIS JUST SO YOU COULD HAVE YOUR SHAMPOO?” This propaganda should make all its viewers turn a left cheek to animal testing.

This piece of propaganda shows a very horrific image. As you can see there is an evil looking man tells the young women to invest money towards war bonds. This propagandas idea is to tell people back then to invest ten percent in war bonds so that the Japanese wouldn’t come and kill them. The title, “Keep this horror from your Home,” simply means to keep this dangerous action from happening to you.
This piece has somewhat of a threating theme to it. It seems that if you don’t pay the ten percent to war bonds this will happen to you. Of course in fright you would pay the ten percent so this wouldn’t happen to you. This certainly did a good job to get viewers to do what they wanted them to do.

This poster shows something that will make people think a different way. Propaganda is used to convince a certain person to do something or to think a different way. In this poster, you can see that the people who made the poster supports the national team and wants to show their support by convincing people to never give up and that anything is possible. Propaganda is used in our everyday lives. It is used in commercials and in advertisements in newspapers, magazines, and everything else. It persuades you to think in a completely different way. It keeps you thinking on the certain topic they speak of. Propaganda almost forces you to choose a side.
Propaganda is also used to give you a certain taste of how they think about things. If its a commercial, they show the way they want their certain items to be displayed or shown. Propaganda can sometimes be negative by showing the topic or item they are against in a really bad way like the poster above with the shoe with the apple logo stepping on the Microsoft logo.

http://questgarden.com/58/79/0/071201164845/ This piece is trying convince the reader to join the U.S army. It is using a serious type of strict language to try to persuade the reader. This picture shows the really patriotic Uncle Sam trying to convince the reader that the army needs them and their help. This Uncle Sam poster has been really famous for many years. Mainly, during World War II. It is designed to have the colors of the American flag all over it. This brings a sense of patriotism into the poster, and also a feeling of patriotism to the person reading it. Also, the strict and firm look that Uncle Sam has on his face gives off a feeling of bravery that can really end up affecting a person's decision ( in this case, joining the U.S army.)
This poster ultimately was working effectively at the time of it’s main release. It gives us, the readers, strong language to persuade us to become “tough enough” and “brave enough”to join the army. I personally feel that the author did a very good job in trying to convince average citizens that their country needs them and their help. I feel this way because many future posters and types of propaganda were heavily influenced because of this one. The author did an outstanding job on this since it became a classic image in this nation.

  14. http://www.thehollywoodnews.com/2012/04/02/the-hunger-games-brilliantly-amusing-propaganda-posters/hungergames-propagandahumor-killbullies-full/
This propaganda is related to a very popular book (and now a movie) trilogy called “The Hunger Games.” I believe the main emotion that this piece is humor while still trying to send out a good message about bullying. The propaganda uses the term, “words are weapons,” which is a common phrase that people use now a day. However, the propaganda does also state that “weapons are also weapons” along with the phrase “words are weapons.” The image then displays a person jabbing a spear through another. Even though the message has to do with “The Hunger Games” and is very humorous, it isn’t very effective. There are people who may take it literally and not as a joke. It is possible that someone who is being bullied sees this and thinks that weapons can be used as to solve their problems with bullies. There are also the people out there who haven’t seen the film and not get the humor behind it. There can be the argument that it is very humorous and original but, there are several people who are using physical conflict to solve their problems. This propaganda contradicts the old saying, “violence is never the answer.”
I believe that the author could have done something different to get the point across. There are many teens in the United States that are bullied physically, mentally and online every day. This shows these teens that could use weapons to harm the person who bullies them but, in reality it will make the situation worse and more complicated. It could have been done differently to get a better message across. However, the problem from changing the propaganda to be more straightforward about the message is that it will lose the humor aspect. Many people who watched “The Hunger Games” could get a laugh out of it. By making the propaganda more serious, it takes the humor out of it. However, I think it could be possible to get the message across but, still get the amusement out of it.

  15. The propaganda I chose to write about was one bashing the prestigious and powerful company Monsanto. This propaganda is using a less common form of persuasion; one that tries to persuade people not to purchase from a company. By further understanding the picture its obvious the people who produced this picture do not agree with the views or practices of Monsanto. It is using a certain twisted form of comedy that might just put a sense of fear into the purchase of Monsanto produce. The apple is “biting back” which will question how many unknown hormones and genes is forced into todays food. This propaganda is using comedy to gain attention and fear to send a message and in turn to persuade its viewers not to purchase products from Monsanto. The picture is comical in the way that the apple is biting the boy and they both remain to smile. It sends fear because people don’t know what is put into the foods that they consume on a daily basis.

The techniques used in the propaganda definitely affected me. I will try to keep from buying intensely modified foods like the one in the picture. The technique is offensive no to the normal consumer but to the corporate officials and workers of the Monsanto company. This ad is offensive to the company of Monsanto because the company would not want their consumers to know that they provide hormones and different genes into their foods. The author got his message across clearly and surly. The goal was to persuade individuals of the dangers there are in partaking in such modified foods. I will not be purchasing from Monsanto and in turn the propaganda worked on one individual already

This is the classic Uncle Sam, I want you for the U.S. army propaganda. It first came around in 1917 during WW1. It is very direct in it's meaning. It is asking for young men to volunteer for the army. Uncle Sam was not new but this piece of propaganda is the most memorable use of his image or name. Since it has lived on through so many years and is still recognizable to the majority of people, it is reasonable to say it is and was a successful piece of propaganda.
This poster uses a sense of nationalism to persuade people to join the army. At the time we were at war, and the sense of nationalism was high. Due to this high sense of nationalism, people would jump on board with anything that involved helping their country. This was especially true with younger men mostly in their 20's which was exactly what the target audience was. The people who made this poster knew exactly what they were doing and how to get what they wanted.

The piece of propaganda that I have chosen has to do with woman being just as good as men. In this world today women are underestimated for most things because this world thinks women are too sensitive and weak to handle a man’s job. Is this true? No! Women are just as good as men and have just as much strengths and ability. The girl is flexing her muscle to show that it’s just as big as a mans and that it shows ability to be just as strong.
Girls don’t get credit for many things anymore, and most men say that they are not good for work but they are. Some women are stronger and have more ability to work than men do. Woman can do many things and shouldn’t be underestimated for their power because they are just as good as men.

  18. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, propaganda is “the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person”. Throughout history, propaganda has been used in small and large scales for this purpose. In this example, it shows Jedi Master Yoda, telling you “With the Force as our Ally, We Can Defeat the Empire!” This is obviously a spoof of many war time recruiting posters, adapting it to the Star Wars realm. The emotion used in this poster is of humor, and uses the language of Star Wars fanboys to relate to all our fantasies of joining the Rebel Alliance. The image displayed on the poster is Yoda in the center of the old Japanese military symbol, the rising sun. To his left, are a squadron of X-Wings ready to attack, and below him are an Imperial Guard , a Stormtrooper, and the infamous, immortalized, Darth Vader. This relates to the message of the poster, by showing Yoda and the Rebel Alliance (the X-Wings), facing the evil Empire, represented by the Stormtrooper, Imperial Guard, and, of course, Darth Vader.

The goal of this “propaganda” is to entertain audiences. This spoof definitely accomplished its goal! This takes people back, to 1980, where Yoda first entered Sci_Fi, and mystified people with his way of speaking, and his mystifying command of the Force. They also do this in a way that connects it to real life events, tying it into World War II, with the Pacific front. That being said, the creator of this poster missed one crucial point of the poster’s center piece: Yoda. To improve this poster, the creator could’ve had the text of it in the form of Yoda’s iconic backwards speech. So, instead of saying “With the Force as our Ally, We Can Defeat the Empire!”, Yoda would probably say: “The Empire, we can defeat, when our ally, the Force is.”

The piece I chose was the picture of the girl holding a bow and arrow and it says “We can do it.” How this piece is trying to use persuasion to convince the audience is that it tells you that you can do anything in life as long as you have ambition and perseverance. The emotions that it’s using are confidence, calmness, concentration, and firmness. You have to be confident in yourself to achieve something; you also have to be calm. The language that this picture is using is confidence and being strong.
How the picture relates to the message is that it’s saying that if you just believe in yourself you can do anything you want to do. The technique used is effective because many people who would look at this picture would have mostly been someone who believed that they couldn’t do anything as long as they believe in themselves and now they’re confident. The images are very recognizable because it shows a girl holding a bow and arrow and has a concentrated face. I don’t think that the author could have done anything differently to engage the audience because it’s very convincing saying that “We can do it.”

Generally, propaganda is distributed in the form of cartoons, posters or visuals - and often has a political slant (but not always). The propaganda I choose was “Rosie the Riveting Zombie”. My choice is a remake of “We can do it” propaganda which symbolizes us women in the war and that women can do the same things men can do, both strong with determination to win and do our part. Instead of saying “We can do it” which means women can accomplish the same that men can, my zombie remake choice says “We will eat you” which means women are not scared and have the zombie ability to eat others. “Rosie the Riveting zombie” has several emotions based and presented by fear, hatred, courage, strength, and confidence. Rosie by the way has turned into a zombie and now has to ability to eat human flesh which relates to the message above the propaganda that “We will eat you”. From zombie Rosie the propaganda uses bold black shadowing which helps make it dramatic and more feared and creepy and the unleashing of the bones and torn flesh represents the zombie look. The image of Rosie, “We can do it” propaganda is very recognizable and popular by others.

In today's world businesses and governments use propaganda in today's world to sell things and to make you join groups like the marines and the navy. In this WW.2 propaganda poster it is trying to convince you certain things. One thing that the poster is trying to convince you to join the army. It is trying to convince people to join the us army by showing a scary picture of the Japaneses looking over the west cost of the U.S. Then Hitler looking over the east cost of the U.S. There for it makes people think that the U.S was endanger of invasion and there lives were in danger there for making people join the army and fight.
Another thing that the poster is trying to convince people to do is it is trying to convince people to join the factory effort. It is trying to convince people to join the factory effort by showing a small picture of tanks rolling off the assembly line and plane flying off the assembly line also. Also around the picture it says "Our jobs" "Keep'em Firing". Which means join the factory effort to help make tanks, plans guns, ammunition to help supply the soldiers and the navy and the air force in the war effort. People will make an effort to help if they feel there life's are endanger.

    1. Good historical propaganda. Avoid repetition and combine the short sentences into one complex one. Remember to capitalize proper nouns.

Back around the mid-20th century during many war and conflicts, women often do not have the roles of accessing more power than men. They were mostly expected to do their “feminine” tasks, like taking care of children and the household at home. If jobs were provided for women, being in the military would be out of the question. During the WWII war, while soldiers were out fighting, they were seen as the most important idol, to lead, and to take care of the country. In this propaganda, the three ladies represented in the poster, “Soldiers without guns”, were dressed in their working clothes, as a secretary, a housewife, and a constructor. Elaborately explained by the title, even though women have less power than men and that they don’t have any leader image in them, they still have a massive importance in the society. Without women, no one would be taking care of children, the house hold, or anything left behind by the soldiers. Females had to work hard for the country and the family also. If females don’t exist, most men would already be out in the war, leaving no one to look after their homes.
Designed by Adolph Treidler, this poster exhales the strength of women. It has the ability to persuade women and younglings that the power of femininity is no less than the power of masculinity. The technique used is although, not so symbolic. It has no signs or puzzle for the people to ponder about. It only has images of strong women, and a powerful title. Many men, although, could find the poster offensive because they do not believe that women have equal or more power than them. Even though the propaganda was meant to idolize or influence women, it obviously would anger anyone who has an old fashion ways of thinking, “improper women works.” In my opinion, the only thing Tridler should improve his art work,is by adding more figurative image to it.

  23. This blog was based on the topic of propaganda. Propaganda is a form of communication aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument according to Wikipedia. They are usually shown as visuals like comics or posters. Propagandas are used and spread all over media in order to persuade people into doing something. So, for my choice of a subject for a propaganda was https://www.google.com/search?q=save+sharks&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=xtKLUoGGKbOx4AOvt4CABA&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=650#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=GPyUWC8WPLieCM%3A%3BWmOGpM19s8WjfM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fassets.wwfhk.panda.org%252Fimg%252Foriginal%252Fshark__corporate_bilingual_.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.wwf.org.hk%252Fen%252Freslib%252Fecard%252F%3B1034%3B776
This propaganda is trying to convince people to quit killing sharks for their fins in order to make soup. This piece of propaganda is trying to persuade people to quit killing sharks by showing the death of shark dangling in the water along with a caption. When I looka t this photo, I think it looks dark and depressing. The shark is dangling on a fish line in the ocean on holding on for dear life. This is it’s habitat and should be alive, swimming around doing what sharks need to do. That is so wrong and disappointing to see. Eventually the fins will be caught off then the live body will be thrown back into the sea left to drown. In this case, I put myself in its position. What if someone removed my arms and legs and threw me in a deep body of water? I’d have no way to save myself just like the sharks having their fins chopped off and thrown back into the water. The caption talks about refusing to use shark and hopes the company will end the availability of eating shark in his or her restaurant. This one person will make a difference. I feel that if people view the picture and read the caption, they might get ideas to stop eating shark themselves due to feeling for the innocent marine animals.

The propaganda I am using for this blog is the picture of the animal that states, “She needs her fur coat more than you do.” This propaganda is being used to try to prevent people from sheering animals and taking all of their fur, possibly by killing them. To persuade this propaganda is attacking the emotions of sorrow, sympathy and just trying to make people go “awwwww.” When most people see a cute animal, such as the one in the picture, it makes them happy and they like that animal. So this picture uses that to make people sympathize for the animal by including that it needs it fur coat more than humans do. This is an attempt to make people sad and feel bad for the animal or angry at those who buy fur coats, thus making people want less to buy fur products and to stop it from happening. The language is not aggressive or completely demeaning, it is said in a way that is concerning and heartfelt persuading people to want to help the animals. The language is also basic so that little naive kids will also be affected and persuaded by the poster, and kids usually love animals even more than adults, so it will be very affective for them. The image itself is what is basically showing the whole message because it has a picture of a cute animal with fur relating to saving animals and preventing them from being sheered or even skinned. Also, the phrase, “She needs her fur coat more than you do,” in the picture is what causes the readers to understand the message that stop sheering skinning and killing animals for human gain, such as coats.
The technique used was very affective on me, and most likely many others as well. When I see cute animals I get emotional and when something is mentioned that harmful to the animal, such as sheering or even skinning it, I get upset and even a little angry. I t affects me and makes me think why anyone would do such things to innocent and defenseless animals, and this propaganda did get me be opposed to animal cruelty a bit more than I was. Many people like me have soft spots for animals and they too may be affected by this propaganda and they will also join the opposition against animal cruelty. Even people who don’t particularly care for animals may still see the wrong in what people are doing to animals and will also understand the message and be persuaded. The picture is of a familiar animal to all and it is very cute to most. So when people see this picture they see it as familiar and can understand it and that helps its message get across.

The propaganda I found is about anti-bullying. It has a gray and blackish form. I think it is this color to show that bullying can cause a depression in someones life. It has a little dialogue like opening because it is trying to show what a victim may feel when they are being bullied. It is using sad emotions because the girl in the picture is sitting on the floor holding her head. She looks like she is mad and sad.
I think this propaganda technique is very effective. Bullies may see the quote and feel bad. They will feel empathy and feel bad. Some bullies won't stop but some might if they see this propaganda. I think it is bullies should look at the quote. Many people have discussion on bullying a lt and sometimes watch movies. I believe being bullied is a horrible experience some people can even commit suicide. This makes the bully get in a lot of trouble.

This piece of propaganda is trying to persuade the viewer to enlist in the army. It is a picture of Darth Vader with an army behind him and words that are “He can’t do it alone.” Also on the bottom there is a caption that says enlist today. The picture is trying to convince the reader to enlist in the army by becoming appealing to any Star Wars fans that would like to join the army.
This propaganda also attracts the viewers because it is interesting. If one day I was walking on the street and I saw a poster of a Star Wars scene and a enlist today caption I would stop and look at it and become more interested in the poster than I would have been. This poster is old as well when before there were many wars like the Vietnam War and World War 2. Back then they needed more soldiers because there wasn’t many in the military so they needed to find ways to convince more people to join.

  28. I think that in this picture they are trying to convince us that we need to chose between the U.S or Terrorists because if you're not with the U.S you might as well be a terrorist. If you look at the picture looks very aggressive toward the viewer looking at the advertisement, the picture makes you really think about how patriotic we really are. Also the picture is a spoof of the statue of liberty, it is in red, white and blue meaning that it is all american point of view.

I think that the picture is not offensive and gets its point across, they are advertising this aggressively to get their point to everyone who sees this advertisement. This in the american language and think it is very effective because it is very straight forward and gets the point across.

  29. In this propaganda picture Adolf Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin are posing as pigs. The captions states "No pork until these pigs are dead". By looking at the picture you can tell right away that its a bit aggressive towards the crowd that its targeting. This picture is comparing the three dictators to being pigs. Its saying that they are dirty, filthy, people for doing what they did.

This picture I feel is offensive, especially towards them. Its very straight-forward by saying that Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini should get killed. The picture attracts those that feel the same way about them as for those that dislike the picture. Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler were bad people. They believed that there was only supposed to be one superior race, and by making those who were a different race suffer for it. http://www.metropostcard.com/picstopicals/t-propaganda.jpg.jpg

This image is an example of propaganda. Propaganda is used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view (Dictionary.com). This image is trying to convince the audience that they should join the armed forces and fight for their country. They’re trying to convince people by saying, “Your country needs you.” Most people if someone or something needs them they will help, so by saying this they might get people to join just because, they think their country needs their help.
Also, the pictures on this poster shows a U.S solder and a man dressed in our country’s colors pointing at you. This will grab people’s attention to read the poster, and spread the word about it or even join the army. This poster is really meant to make people angry or happy, it’s to promote the job of protecting our country, and to reach out to people who want to help and make a difference.

This piece of propaganda is trying to make you start carpooling with people. This piece of propaganda is a picture of a guy in a car with an outlined Hitler in his passenger seat, the piece of propaganda says "when you ride alone you ride with Hitler." This piece of propaganda can actually be pretty serious and dumb or just comedy. Saying it is just comedy the picture tries to make you laugh and maybe actually start carpooling. So the piece of propaganda is getting yours and others attention by being funny and puts the thought of carpooling in your mind.
The quote definitely agrees with the picture in this piece of propaganda. The picture says "when you ride alone you ride with Hitler," and in the picture it's a guy riding with a theoretical Hitler. I think the technique is effective because when I read it I made me laugh and thought about it more than just glancing over it. Maybe when adults see it with a sense of humor they might think of carpooling and maybe start doing it. But there is also a lot of adults with no sense of humor and they would just get mad. So overall it has a negative effect and a positive effect.
