Reality television programs, which feature real
people engaged in real activities rather than professional actors performing
scripted scenes, are increasingly popular. These shows depict ordinary people
competing in everything from singing and dancing to losing weight, or just
living their everyday lives. Most people believe that the reality these shows
portray is authentic, but they are being misled. How authentic can these shows
be when producers design challenges for the participants and then editors alter
filmed scenes?
Do people benefit from forms of entertainment that
show so-called reality, or are such forms of entertainment
harmful? Specific explanations and examples for the topic are key to
receiving full credit.

The boom of reality television started in the 21st century. From shows such as “Deal or No Deal” to the most popular rated show on MTV “The Jersey Shore”, they all seem to portray the same characteristics. That is, partying, drinking, and drama. More and more reality television shows are being produced lately since the offset cost to put them on air only costs as low as 7 dollars. America as a whole has become lazier and lazier in terms of physical exercise and I think reality television is partly to blame for that. These shows are most appealing to the young adolescent’s minds and from what they see being practiced on television, are what they feel they need to do in order to fit in with society.
ReplyDeleteStatistics show that nearly 85% of all reality television is being watched by people ranging in ages from 13 to 21. Reality television has an effect on the way people’s minds thinks and comprehends certain life situations. By seeing celebrities (that are already commended by teens in this generation) act in a certain way gives teens the idea that that’s how people are supposed to act. Teens in general are attracted to laid back and easy lifestyles. Such lifestyles are displayed in these types of reality television, and in result, children who watch these shows are most likely to develop such behaviors. In general, reality television does more harm than good.
I agree with your statement. Teens now a days do see celebrities as a sort of role model and choose to act like them or think that their actions are right (even though their acting) when there not.
DeleteI strongly agree with your opinion. Reality television shows are definitely becoming a problem for our generation. Your example of how people are becoming lazy supported your opinion very well. Good job

ReplyDeleteLike whompp said, " in the 21st Century Reality Television bloomed". I agree with what she is said about all this beginning in the 21st Century. For example, in the year 2010 the show Gold Rush came out on Discovery channel that was a reality show on how this rookie group of men tried to strike it rich in Alaska. People when this show first came out they were amazed with what was going on and the problems they faced. According to Discovery Channel around 64 million people were watching this weekly during the second season when people began to gain popularity. mostly adult and teens as well. American watch Gold Rush to see them reach their goal but always failing to strike it rich. During interviews the people from the show had live shows and they were asked questions. one of the questions was about weather they change what really goes on in the show and what really goes on in real life. They responded back by say that no they change the show around and make it sound different and it's not authentic.
There is also other shows that show a people living they life of just partying, hanging out, and getting paid for it. When teenagers see this type of behavior happening they want to live the same life style of partying all night and just having fun and not caring about their grades and studies. This affects the countries hard work. This country was built on hard working people and watching these show is making people want to be more lay back and not do anything with their lifes. Ambition is something people need to have in order to want to succeed in the future and not stay poor. With this economy being all the way down we need people to start working to bring it back up. Television and technology is making this country lazy and dropping in Academic studies.
good bryan u gave alot of detail good job neighbor !!

ReplyDeleteIf the aspects of reality television are thought of in depth, viewers would then come to the conclusion that these types of shows cannot be fully authentic. Due to the fact that scenes are always altered and edited, the actual situations of the lives being filmed are not portrayed correctly. For instance, in a reality show, different people say insulting things, but are not directing it to specific people. The editors of this film would alter the scene in order to make it look like that character was directing the comment to another character in the show. Therefore, a fake scene that would appear to be true would be created.
Both the audience and people in the show themselves could have an effect on them in terms of reality TV. First of all, the viewers may watch a reality TV show that presents inappropriate activities. These actions would then be a bad influence on these viewers. For example, in the reality show “Jersey Shore”, the stars of the show were famous for their habit to live in the same house and to go to clubs on the boardwalk. This could be a bad influence on viewers of all ages because then they might consider drinking for fun. On the other hand, the people that are presented in reality shows like this would not have benefits from their jobs as well as the audience. One way that they would not have a positive outcome from their job is when the scene that they are in is edited, causing conflicts between other “actors”. Therefore reality TV shows are never fully authentic and do not benefit the lives of tons of people.

ReplyDeleteThere are many different types of reality television shows. Many people really only pay attention to one category of television, and criticize it as garbage. Reality television does not only consist of shows documenting the lives of people. Yes, many of the reality television shows that document the lives of people do portray negative things such as drinking, partying, and drama. These shows are merely meant for entertainment, and for the minds of an older age group. Young children who view this type of television shows are sent a bad example, yet parents do have the ability to monitor what their children watch.
Other reality television shows portray many positive things. Dancing, singing, losing weight, helping out others who are in need is nothing compared to drinking, partying and drama. Shows such as “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” change the lives of people in such a positive way. A reality show like this is something for all to watch and also educational for young children. They are able to view the helping world and also the needy world. There is such a big controversy over television shows, which type creates an overall impact on the viewer? New reality television shows come out all the time, so it’s not like they are ever going to stop from playing. It’s a person’s choice to choose what kind of reality television they watch, and also what they take from it and how it affects them.
Nicole's Comment:
ReplyDeleteReality television has become and continues to be very popular in the past few years. Even though reality TV is supposedly all real and natural, the characters are still influenced by the director to do or say certain things to make the show more interesting. Also, the film crew can edit things out or morph pieces together, and alter what may have actually happened. There are many different opinions on how the shows affect the viewers. Overall, I believe that reality TV can have both a positive or negative effect on viewers, depending what the show is about and what is portrayed.
First off, if the show is all about drama and arguing, such as MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” it can have a negative effect on the viewers. Watching shows like this can influence the audience to fight and get involved in drama, since they think it’s the right thing to do, from watching it on TV. This especially applies to younger children. To adults, they know better than to do the things they see on television. However, children may not know that those things are wrong to do. They could end up having bad lives because they use the characters shown on television as role models. Examples of shows that have a positive impact on people are shows like “The Biggest Loser” and “American Idol.” These reality TV shows show people inspiration and that they can follow in those characters’ footsteps. All in all, I believe that reality TV shows can have both negative and positive effects on viewers, depending on the purpose and ideas of the show.
Bella's Comment:
ReplyDeleteReality Television is a very debatable topic. Personally, I enjoy it for purposes of entertainment and my own curiosity. Some television shows have mastered the art of reality TV, making it appear as though it is all natural and non-scripted. Very few shows on the air are one hundred percent genuine. I am torn in deciding if these types of shows are beneficial or harmful to society because certain programs portray one view as others provide the opposite.
This type of entertainment gives people ideas and thoughts about other's way of life, hardships they face and a moment of empathy. Watching these shows can give feelings of hope or a real-life understanding of problems others are facing. Some shows have great intentions however, the outcomes are negative and vice versa. For example, the show The Biggest Loser is intended for the audience to watch competitors reach their hardest points and view their entire journey. This could be an opportunity for viewers to comment, mock and judge these people. Overall, those in the competition do lose large amounts of weight and will learn healthy skills for the rest of their life. Scripted reality shows only mislead people in what ideals are correct, and ideals that are typical. On the other hand, much can be learned from watching women struggle in prison and by watching families swap lives. Reality Television all depends on the purpose of the show, the understanding of the viewers at home and the intentions of the director.
I agree with you completely that reality television is quite entertaining. Even though the majority of these shows are not always true, it is a tough decision to make, deciding if reality TV is beneficial to our society. You supported your viewpoint very well with great examples and explanations. Great job, Bella!
DeleteJackie's Comment:
ReplyDeleteNew reality TV shows are coming out all the time; more drama, more fights, more drinking, and we all view this type of erotic behavior as entertaining. Who doesn’t love to watch a bunch of teenagers do wild activities and even add some drama for extra suspense? You may find that even the people that argue these shows are so “bad for our society and children” are watching bits and pieces of the episode interested in what’s going on and what’s to happen next. However, in most cases, these television shows are useless and “brain frying”. And as new episodes are being aired, the drama, fighting, and alcohol are becoming more of a factor and continuously implanting these types of behavior and all ages of people.
Furthermore, the name of “reality” TV is not so accurate. Most of the things going on in these television shows revolve are an interpretation of things only set-up by producers to make it more interesting to the viewers. Only in some rare cases would a person’s regular everyday lifestyle be interesting or entertaining for an audience. Therefore, these reality television shows are not benefitting anyone considering they’re not portraying any situations that could actually occur with an exception of a few informational programs.
I agree with your opinion. Saying that reality television is "brain frying" is completely appropriate for the subject of discussion. Reality TV is not close to accurate and really does not benefit anyone!
DeleteAs said above " How authentic can these shows be when producers design challenges for the participants and then editors alter filmed scenes?" that is a question that has always popped up in my mind and many other people too. The truth about these so called "reality" shows is that they are not actual reality. I have seen shows and how they cut things out and leave things in, and tell the stars what to do. This is not actual reality because it is not really happening; it is impossible to videotape months or weeks of events and show the real thing in an hour or two, it is being enhanced. The meaning of reality according to Merriam-Webster is; the quality or state of being real, which is something these shows lack. This is misleading because it leads people to thinking it is reality but it is not, and unfortunately some people get influenced by reality TV and these shows are only making people live in a fantasy world.
ReplyDeleteBesides the scoop that these shows are not real. They also have all of the drama involved, the drama that we love to watch but that we also like to get inspired from it ourselves. These people usually get involved in drama like drinking, partying, smoking, fighting, gossiping, and many more. These methods of drama and the way that these people solve them is affecting the way that we also approach these problems. As stars they are the kind of people that you look up to and that you might see as a role model, but these people are not role models. The reality that is being created is an illusion. Overall, yes, these shows are very harmful and give people the wrong ideas of how to be.
Over the years, reality TV has grown extremely popular, grabbing the attention of many of it's audience members. The first thing that pops into the mind of many when they hear the term "reality television' are shows like "Keeping Up With the Kardashians", "Snooki & JWoww", and many other shows that portray drama, partying, and many other things that many would consider nonsense or a bad example. These shows would be categorized as a "bad influence" for it's audience members due to the lack of positive influences. However, i believe that these shows are a good form of entertainment and a good example of what we should not do. Many of these shows are meant for an older audience, who know better, compared to younger ones who imitate almost anything they see. Basically, it all depends on how certain viewers react to the TV show; some react differently than others when it comes to this form of reality TV.
ReplyDeleteSome of the major reality TV shows, like the ones listed above, are actually not even reality. The producers of many reality shows tell the cast members what to do, to make the episode more exciting. However, not all reality TV is like this. Some shows do portray a positive message that can build up, ad even inspire, it's audience members. Shows like "The Biggest Loser", "American Idol", and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" give out a positive message to it's audience and can be viewed by all age groups. So, not all reality TV is bad, or a waste of time.
I agree with your opinion that reality TV is not a complete waste of time. The examples for both sides of reality TV definitely supported your opinion. Overall, your response was able to portray the positive and negative things that come from reality TV.
DeleteGood job Bianca! Your first paragraph was well written and I like the examples who have provided especially since many kids know about those shows and can relate. I completely agree with your first paragraph. Overall, great job!
DeleteThe so called reality can be harmful for people. Most of these scenes on these reality television shows are usually portrayed to be publicity stunts. If people begin to believe that the things said and done on the shows, society could actually become completely corrupt. Reality TV is tightly scripted and controlled by the networks. Lines are given to participants and characters. Stories and situations are all spelled out in advance by Hollywood script writers, then passed off as “reality.”
ReplyDeleteThis form of entertainment, found in shows like "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race," promotes the corruptions of cheating and manipulation. Competition, in most of these shows, is normal, as different “teams” fight against each other by any means necessary. The problem is that, since it is passed off as “reality,” this behavior is considered the moral “norm.” The basic problem of reality TV is that it creates reality, and hence, advances moral “norms” and values as “real.” There is both a negative effect on the views of the show, by showing misleading ways of living but also a negative impact on contestants, not only physically but emotionally as well.
I definitely agree with what you are saying here. Reality television has many negative outcomes for viewers. Great job Sydney!
DeleteBella's Comment:
DeleteYou are right! Many people just believe what they see and what they see is not the real reality. Good job.
Reality television is an appealing thought to many people, especially teenagers. The thing that is usually portrayed to catch the attention of viewers would be drama, partying, or attempting stunts that are potentially dangerous. To call these shows beneficial is like saying that pigs can fly. The plot line is created to draw a fight out over four episodes of a season for the sole reason to keep viewers tuning in. For example, "Teen Mom" is based on the struggles of teen girls who must deal with the challenges of pregnancy under different circumstances. This reality tv show only showcases struggles and dramatizes current problems of today's society.
ReplyDeleteAlthough reality tv shows are most commonly known for their ridiculous subjects, there are certain shows which are beneficial. A reality show that can be viewed as beneficial is "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". The show is centered around helping families who desperately need to renovate their homes to accommodate to their needs. For example, if a child had a disability and the house the family lived in was not functional, the show would build a house that could. Another show that could also be seen as a beneficial reality tv show is "The Biggest Loser". The show often helps people who have medical problems due to their weight. Throughout the show, the trainers help the people lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle. All in all, it is the person's choice in show that determines whether they benefit or are harmed from reality tv shows.
Brooke's Blog:
ReplyDeleteme forms of entertainment start out to be harmless, but over time things can get out of hand. A good example of this is Lifetime’s Dance Moms. Recently on Dance Moms, three of the people got into a fight. This is where the show can become harmful. The women threw water at each other and they hit each other with their purses. Entertainment on television is funny for the viewers, but not so much for the people involved.
Many people also think that reality TV is scripted. I can see where these people are coming from. Many shows such as Jersey Shore show high signs of scripted events. People can’t actually believe that they would do many of the things they do because it’s just crazy. You can usually tell whether or not the events are scripted because of the way the cast reacts when it happens. Overall, reality TV sometimes can be funny for the viewers, but not as funny for the cast members.
Reality tv shouldn't be an example to people, to show them how to live their lives. Reality shows provactive things, for example "Jersey Shore" in my opinion they're are considered trashy. They have no morals, for example being entoxicated in public shouldn't be a foot step to follow, ecpecially for young viewers. Reality tv show are also, unethical; wrong. Why? well for example again "Jersey Shore" they avertise a good image of a man is a bulked up guy, that is tan/orange, that is italian which makes some people unconfortable in their own skin.
ReplyDeleteThe reality tv show " I Used to be fat" in my opinion shows a better face of reality tv. Because it shows people if they put their mind into anything they can be successful. Losing weight can be hard for people, ecpecially now a days with a lot more temptations than yesturday, due to the fact eveyday you seen a new advertisement of food or tv show coming out. Which doesn't contribute in loosing weight at all, " I used to be fat" the reality tv show, shows people what the people in the shows went through to be what they are today, with a strong mind set. So reality tv show do have their pros and cons. So they can be harmful, at the same time usefyl
useful* -My bad
ReplyDeleteSome reality TV shows are to be realistic and they are because a lot of the TV shows can happen in real life. For example, in victorious there are many kids there that are talented and go to a talent school, and they battle their life with things that happen outside of school. Things they have to battle are like relationships or family problems. In this reality TV show, many characters face some of these problems. In one episode, the main character Tori dates this guy but he doesn’t really like her. He is just using her to get a good grade on this project. When Tori finds out she seeks to get revenge on him and put him on his place. This happens occasionally in reality. Its very rare but it has happened.
ReplyDeleteSome reality TV shows can’t happen in real life, for example, in many movies and TV shows they have a happy ending but sometimes there’s not a happy ending. Like in a some romantic TV shows or movies they put these two people lived happily ever after and have a family, but in reality it doesn’t really happen. Some people make some TV shows that don’t even happen in real life but it nice how they put it all and how they can make the story make sense. Over all, reality TV shows are made for the real life but sometimes it has a twist of fiction.
Bella's Comment:
DeleteI didn't think of that aspect. Many TV shows do have real life scenarios and thats what makes them very enjoyable. Great job Jaylene!
Reality television is becoming more and more popular each day. They now have reality shows about the country life, being a wife, being a “nerd”, and the list is endless. These shows definitely have a large impact on our society today, too. When people see someone that they admire/like drinking alcohol, using drugs, getting into fights, and using bad language, they begin to mimic their actions. But, this does not go for all people who watch reality television.
ReplyDeleteMany people say that reality television is bad for children/teens to watch because they do not agree with the actions being shown. But as hard is it might be for adults to realize, this is life. People do things they should not, but that’s how people grow up. So when reality television is being watched, it does not mean the viewer will begin doing everything the reality stars are doing. It may just mean they are going to avoid making the same mistakes. This is why I believe reality television is not harmful entertainment.
Good job Emily. I like your reasoning’s for why reality television is not a form of harmful entertainment.
DeleteReality television cannot be beneficial. It may be entertaining, but it has shown so many bad sides of life. For example, participates in the reality television program of Buck Wild on MTV are wild. When teenagers see their fellow teens acting a wreck it gives them the idea that they can do the same. They see Joey (from Buck Wild) or Shae (also from Buck Wild) doing crazy stuff, like jumping off cliffs or drinking underage. It gives other people the wrong vibe. It gives teens the thought that they can jump off cliffs or underage drink and not have consequences. When in the real world is not correct. There will always be consequences. Reality television gives the audience the wrong ideas and influences them to do inappropriate things.
ReplyDeleteAnother example of reality television that gives the viewer’s wrong ideas is Dance Moms on Lifetime. The show follows seven girls and their moms as they compete in dance competitions across the country. It displays their rehearsals leading up to the competitions and the day of competition. It also shows their cruel dance teacher Abby Lee Miller. She is rude, uncaring, and a monstrosity of evil. Abby bags on the children and the “dance moms” cannot take it anymore. Eventually it all ends in a big fight with purses being thrown and inappropriate language being said. This form of reality television is not beneficial because it displays fighting with words. Words can hurt just as bad as sticks and stones. Any television show can show fighting with the use of words. However, this reality show displays it and gives the audience the idea it’s alright, when fighting is wrong. Reality television is not beneficial in anyway.
Great response, Sam. Reality TV really is a bad influence on people. i liked your ideas about that and all the examples, such as MTV.
DeleteReality shows actually do kind of help people in the world by seeing this shows they might get motivated or have a good laugh. Shows such as I use to be fat can motivate people to do something and accomplish it. Shows such as Rob Dyrdicks fantasy factory might make some people laugh and when there having a bad day it might bright there day.
ReplyDeleteIn show I use to be fat the show shows how people lose weight in about 5 weeks or so, it shows what they do to get skinnier professional athletes go visits them at there house and throws all there junk food away and trains them and gets them to lose weight. This might motivate the a lot of people that are fat on the united states, most of the people are fat because of junk food and places like that seel a lot of bad food. I actually think those type of shows are actually pretty good for people to watch.
When people are aired on reality TV, nothing is what it seems. Scenes are edited to be humorous or interesting. When someone has a conversation, for example, “My mom is going to Mexico on Tuesday,” “That’s so cool! I wish I could go!” “Me too. I really hope she is okay on the plane, it’s a long way”. The editors could edit their conversation to say, “My mom is going to Mexico on Tuesday,” “That’s so cool! I wish I could go!” “Me too, I really hope she isn’t going to be ok on the plane… It’s a long way down”. The power of technology has enabled people to switch words around with the help of audio editing. Anyone can be heard saying basically anything, twisting conversations and creating more problems and fights in families and on TV.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I think that reality TV can be harmful. People are misled to either love or hate someone. A singer; someone may edit what they sang or said in order to gain views. A dancer; someone may cut out a great move and replace it with a failure. A contestant on The Biggest Loser; the editor may cut out a great section of their progress and make them look like they did no work at all. Overall, reality TV can be very harmful to all.
Reality television is not at all beneficial, for anyone. Reality television is nothing like what it sounds like. Although it is not scripted the people in them have situations set up for them and they are cut to only show the interesting parts of their lives instead of the mostly average lives they lead like everyone else. All that reality television does is shows people how to get into trouble, and fights. Yet the people who are always involved in these activities never are prosecuted so teenagers believe that what they are doing is perfectly legal. Reality television sets a bad example for teenagers, which it is geared towards, so overall it is not beneficial at all.
ReplyDeleteOne example that would represent this well would be Cheer Perfection. This show is not good for television because they show how harshly they train the young kids and they only show the parts where the parents fight. There are many other shows where this happens like Dance Moms, and Toddlers in Tiaras. All of these shows show the exact same things, the hardship and the final outcome, they do not show the real work it takes up until then to get to the point they are at.
Reality shows have grown strangely. Starting from survivor and the real world, reality TV has grown so much. Everything on TV now is basically a reality show and there's a show for every subject you could think of. The last ten years the biggest shows have been love shows like the flavor of love, Rock of love and the bachelor. All with the same idea just set up in a different way.
ReplyDeleteNow celebs are trying to get in the mix of having reality shows like Kim kardashian, honey boo boo and countless others. The reality shows make people famous like the cast of jersey shore who gets paid thousands of dollars just to party and act a fool what a wonderful life. These shows show the life of stars making ordinary people jealous and wishing to have easy lives just like them. The reason most people watch is because the producers cut out most of the show and only show things that leave you wanting more thats how they get their money and keep the fans. I think soon television is going to be ruled by reality TV and regular shows will be obsolete.
Over the past few years , reality shows have been shown. Some of the reality television have caused troubled or made people feel uncontrollable, but they all try to show people different things. The most famous reality shows are the ones that have drama, trouble fights in them. This shows are meant to entertain people and show show then a good laugh. Even though this show can be fun and funny they can also bring bad result to those who watch them. It depends on who watches them and with who.
ReplyDeleteReality shows are bad because many little kids could watch them and they show a lot of drama fights and this kids could do the same thing when they get older. This type of shows bring a lot of attention but at the same time problems and are not good for the community.
Kevin's Comment:
DeleteGood point about the children watching the shows! Great job, I agree with you in that part of it.
Reality TV shows are either made to help people or to serve others as an entertainment show. It all depends on what the purpose and what the show is full of. The show "Extreme Home Makeover Edition" helps repair homes for the ones who need it so for this reality show its beneficial. Not only does it show how a makeover, not necessarily a make-up make over, can change the life's of others but how a reality show can help those who deserve the help and receive it not money wise but with a helping hand. There is an upside to certain reality shows but there is also a downside.
ReplyDeleteCertain reality shows consist of drama, parties, drinking, drugs and other factors that make up the show. For example, "Jersey Shore" sends a negative message to the viewers. Their show mostly consist of people involved in drama who only go to parties, from what I heard that is what the show is mostly about. From what viewers see they may create an image on how they would want their life to be and even change their aspect on things. Although it does depend on the viewer how much they let the show affect them, reality shows should be more beneficial rather than being a bad influence on their viewers.
Today, there are more and more reality shows airing on television and they are becoming extremely popular with our younger generation. Although some reality television shows prove to be successful and somewhat entertaining, they are not exactly the most beneficial programs on air. Reality television shows are so popular, that they are drawing in a huge audience. The more people watch their favorite celebrities on TV, the more they try to mimic their every move. This could lead to serious problems.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most popular reality television shows out now is “Jersey Shore.” This show basically portrays young adults having a good time on summer vacation. However, their versions of “good times” are not exactly the most appropriate. By showing the main characters drinking and partying every night, the teen audience begins to believe that this is the only way they can have just as much fun as the characters on the show. However, this is not true at all. Teens can still have a great time with their friends without participating in mischievous activities. By being glued to the lies that is reality television, young teens have a hard time distinguishing between what is morally right and what is not. “Jersey Shore” is not the only television show that sets a bad example for our generation, there are plenty of other shows that do that. The more reality shows that send teens the wrong messages made will eventually end up destroying the young minds of our society. For these reasons, reality television is not beneficial to anyone nowadays, especially young teens.

ReplyDeleteI think that in some way, there are ways that reality TV can help people. There are some reality TV shows that use scare tactics in order to get their point across. They could show a fifteen year old holding their own baby. For some people, that is a blessing. I’m not saying that every fifteen year old with a baby has a terrible life, because that is definitely not true. Back in the colonial days, it was perfectly normal. There are some people that they show on those TV shows that really have no support from their families, their boyfriends leave them, and they are left raising a child on their own.
This can scare some people into not having kids at an early age. It may not be the same for every young teenager with a baby, some of them are really happy, but some of them are miserable, and it can keep those kids from being miserable. In another way, reality TV can be hurtful, too. When people see the reality TV shows with the challenges that are created by the producers, they believe that it is real life, and they want to be like those actors. But let’s remember, they are actors. All “reality” TV has at least a little bit of fake in them. People then who are watching those shows get a false sense of reality, and when they realize it is fake, it makes them upset.
Cristian's Response:
ReplyDeleteReality TV has been around since the beginning of the television era, people get fed into thedrama that comes with reality television. What most people don’t realize is that today most reality TV is either staged or altered, producers mess with the “scripts” which are not supposed to be involved in this case, of reality TV. They do so, so that they are able to compete with rivals in order to make their shows the hottest around, the more ratings a show has the more money that goes into the pockets of the producers.
Reality TV has a negative effect on some children because most kids spend most of their time hooked on the Television. They look up to a lot of these reality stars, imitating what they do, how they act or what they wear. This can be looked at as a positive or a negative, depending on the celebrity they look up to depends how these children take in what they see and how it affects them. These kids do not realize that most of what they watch is how they begin to act, who they saw acting like that on TV or who they heard saying something, then becomes a part of their everyday speech. Reality television could be looked at in a positive or negative matter depending on who is on the show and how the person acts.
Most reality television shows today are not the best influence for most people but yet, is the same kind of show that draws people in. Most people enjoy that kind of entertainment. Although they are labeled as “reality” television shows, there is a lot that is just scripted lines. When people hear the words “reality television shows,” they most likely think of the shows “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” or “The Jersey Shore.” A lot of people forget other reality televisions shows that do not consist of drinking, partying and people that engage in sexual relations. Although, those types of shows are a bad influence, especially for younger children, it is out of the parent’s control if the child wants to still go forth with watching it.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of other reality television shows that do not only consist of such inappropriateness but, promote positive things. There are shows that involve positive things such as losing weight, showing talent, and helping out others. For example, shows such as “The Biggest Loser” send out great and educational messages to even young children as well. The show helps send the message that staying in shape and staying healthy is important for one’s life. This show obviously stays away from scenes that do not have a positive affect on people. This is bad because not only they don't get exsersice, but they all also getting blind. They are getting blind because they are watching to much TV. TV puts to much stress on the eyes.
ReplyDeleteBut reality TV can also make people smarter. TV can teach people new things like how not to get to poisons animals and plants. Also it shows true events that happened so it can teach you to not make the same mistake.
